Split disc check valvesfor the prevention of reverse flowThe Spirax Sarco wafer pattern range of split disc check valves type SDCV provides an effective maintenancefree solution for the prevention of reverse flow in pipelines carrying most types of liquids, gases includingsteam and condensate.

Designed to fit between two pipeline flanges, they provide a compact installation when compared size-for-sizewith conventional swing and lift type check valves.

The Spirax Sarco range of SDCV split disc wafer check valve bodies are available in carbon steel and austeniticstainless steel, and with seating options of metal or soft fluoroelastomer to match most applications.

Seat options in stainless steeland Viton for oils, gases, steamand water applications. Discto seat shut-off conforms toAPI 598 for all SDCV's.

Designed and manufactured inaccordance with API 594.

Self-centering forfool proof installation.

Flange standards:EN 1092 PN16 and PN40,ANSI 150 and ANSI 300,JIS /KS 10K and 20K.

Larger sizes have anintegral lifting eye.

Fully complies with therequirements of theEuropean PressureEquipment Directive97 / 23 / EC.

User benefits● Can be used with a wide variety of liquids, gases

and vapours.

● Compact design for simple installation betweena wide range of flange types and in any planeexcept vertically downwards.

● Each model designed to fit between a varietyof flange standards - simplifying and reducingspares stock holdings.

● Wide variety of body materials and seating allowsproduct matching to any specific application.

● Computer aided product design and modernproduction methods ensure product of thehighest quality.

● Materials of construction ensure low wear rateswith minimal maintenance.

● Short face-to-face design of an SDCV inherentlymakes it lighter and more compact leading toeasier installation, maintenance, and lower cost.

● Fully complies with the European PressureEquipment Directive 97/23/EC.

● Review application.

● Confirm the flow direction.

● Confirm line size and flange standard.

● Confirm preferred materials of construction.

● Determine if metal-to-metal or soft seatrequired.(Remember soft seat versions have alower temperature limit).

● Confirm certification /inspectionrequirements.

How they workSpirax Sarco SDCV wafer check valves are opened bythe flow of pressure of the fluid and closed by the springwhen flow ceases and before reverse flow can occur.

Check valve selectionGenerally the selection of a split disc check valveis easy. However there are a number of pointswhich need to be considered. Correct selectionis assured by following the checklist below:

InstallationThe SDCV uses the body for location so that its outsidediameter touches all flange bolts which automaticallyself-centres the valve in the pipeline.

Split disc check valves can be installed with the liquid/gasflowing horizontally into the valve (A) or, with the liquid /gas flowing vertically upwards through the valve (B).

Split disc check valves are not recommended forinstallation with the liquid/gas flowing verticallydownwards through the valve or applications whereheavily pulsating flow exists, such as close to areciprocating compressor.

The SDCV can be usedin a wide variety of applications including:

Process lines. Heating systems. Sprinkler installations.Oil lines. Hot and cold water systems. Steam and condensate lines.

And in industries as diverse as:Chemicals. Pharmaceuticals. Shipbuilding.Power generation. Food production. Pulp and paper.Textiles.

In fact, any industry where fluid flows in pipes.
