Cut Opening Function
Cut Opening - extension for managing the creation of openings using Revit®
„Interference Check“ results.
Currently “Cut Opening” works with: Ducts, Pipes, Cable Trays and Conduits.
...takes Revit® „Interference Check“ results and displays in separate dialog for
managing;
...automatically creates openings where ducts, pipes, cable trays or conduits
are crossing walls, floors or ceilings;
...adds opening offset if needed;
...has possibility to change the type and form of opening;
...has possibility to lock the cut offset and form of opening;
...has possibility to change/delete existing openings if needed;
...works with linked files! Architectural project can be linked to MEP project as
well as MEP project can be linked to architectural part.
Cut Opening First step – “Run Interference Check”
Before working with “Cut Opening” the user
must select Collaborate → Interference Check
→ Run Interference Check.
In one side mechanical categories must be
selected – Cable Trays, Conduits, Ducts or
Pipes.
In other side structural categories must be
selected – Ceilings, Floors or Walls.
It is possible to select categories from the current or
linked project.
Cut Opening First step – “Run Interference Check”
In “Interference Report” dialog user has to select “Export” and save html file in any place of
computer.
Cut Opening Second step – “Read Interference Check Data”
Read Interference Check Data – reads Revit® “Interference Check Data”
html file and shows collisions in convenient dialog. After review and some
changes it saves collisions in xml file for further work.
“Selected” parameter shows what collisions
will be saved to xml file for further work.
Cut Opening Final step – “Insert Openings”
Insert Openings – inserts openings according Revit® “Interference Check
Data” results. The function must be selected in the project where walls,
floors or ceilings are originally created.
Function inserts openings that are selected near “Selected” column.
Cut Opening Modify Openings
Modify Openings – has possibility to modify/delete existing openings.
New features in v2012.3:
fractions are added to
show and enter values!
Cut Opening Dialogs
Collisions are conveniently grouped together in
a tree where the user can filter it by any
configurable criterions. The criterions can be
selected with “Configure Grouping”.
Collision list with parameters. Configurable
criterions are displayed like yellow columns
(“Level”, “Category”, “Family” etc). Changeable
parameters (“Selected”, “Opening Shape”, “Cut
Offset”) are displayed like white columns.

change opening shape!
Cut Opening Configure Grouping
If “Level”, “Category” and “Category to Cut” are selected
in “Configure Grouping” then the elements can be
expanded and filtered under these criterions.
Read Interference Check Data Lock Cut Offset
Lock Cut Offset – possibility to lock the values in “Cut Offset” column. The user will not have
a chance to change these values in “Insert Openings” dialog.
Read Interference Check Data Opening Shape
Opening Shape – opening shape can be changed to rectangle, cylinder or default shape
defined by element:

Read Interference Check Data Lock Opening Shape
Lock Opening Shape – possibility to lock the values in “Opening Shape” column. The user
will not have a chance to change these values in “Insert Openings” dialog.

“Read Interference Check Data” and “Insert Openings” Face Based Opening
Face Based Opening - possibility to insert face based openings instead of wall, floor or
ceiling based openings.
Right-click Settings Change Value
“Change Value” changes values of the selected elements. The function can change the
instance “Cut Offset” and “Selected” parameter values.
The openings will be created with
50mm “Cut Offset” where ducts are
crossing walls.
Right-click settings Filter By Selected Data
“Filter By Selected Data” feature filters elements according to the selected values.

Right-click settings Distinct Values in Column
“Distinct Values in Column” feature shows different values of select columns at a separate
convenient window where you can apply the filter by selecting values.
Ducts with Family Name
“Rectangular Ducts” are filtered
what crosses walls.
Right-click settings Copy to Clipboard
“Copy to Clipboard” – copies to clipboard the selected values.
Right-click settings Refresh View
The user can see the elements in model by selecting the rows in dialog. If the view is not
changing synchronously then “Refresh View” should be selected.

“Show Element By ID” – shows and selects element in
model by element ID;
“Isolate Selected Elements in Active View” – isolates
elements in active view:
Cut Opening Working with liked files
Cut Opening works with linked projects. Architectural/structural project can be linked to MEP
project or MEP project can be linked to architectural/structural project.
New features in v2012.3:
shared coordinates added. Opening's
position are recalculated by current
project shared coordinates and also by
linked project shared coordinates!
Cut Opening Draw Table
Creates/updates table data in the drafting view with
selected settings. Created table is grouped in drafting view.
If the user ungroup the table then there will be no possibility
to update the data.
Cut Opening Draw Table – Table Dimensions
Width, Height – real table sizes in current units.
Cut Opening Draw Table – Number per page
Number per page – splits data in separate tables with predefined number of rows.
Cut Opening Draw Table – Table Appearance Settings
Row Height Factor – changes the height of row by multiplying data text height and the
factor.
Cut Opening Export to Exel
Data in dialog can be easily exported to Excel.
