Miss Dorothy Hand returned home the first of the week, following a visit with her aunt in Brooklyn. Miss Patricia Denzler spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jackson of Mattituck. Walter Post of Rosedale, and W. A. Grathwohl of Valley Stream, spent Saturday with the latter's mother, Mrs. Charlotte Grathwohl. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Case of Patchogue, .spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sterling. Miss Betty Raynor accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Mabel Raynor, and daughter, Sarah, of Westhamp- ton, have been spending several days in New York. Miss Stafka Doro.ski spent the latter part of last week with the Misses Margaret and Anne Denzler. Mrs. Win Corwin of Rutherford, New Jersey, formerly of New Suf- folk, who has been quite ill, is rap- Idly recovering. Mr. Leon Moore spent the week- end in Patchogue calling on friends. GREENPORT 4-H CLUB NEWS On January 22nd the 4-H Club met at the home of Miss Betty Silleck. 'Twelve members were preiient. The teachers showed us how to set a table, cook and pre- pare fruit. Following the meeting games wore played and refresh- ments served. Tlie next meeting was held at Miss Nancy Tyler's on February ."ith. At the meeting we. cooked cereal and made cocoa syrup. Each girl made a breakfast menu suitable for themselves. Re- freshments were served and meet- ing adjourned. On February 19th the meeting was held nt the home of one of our local teachers, Miss Clara Tnthill. At this meeting we made wholewheat mufTins and or- ange and lemon marmalade. Re- freshments were served and plans made to have all members of the club attend the Nas.sau-Suffolk Club Rally which is to be held on March 5th at Farmingdale State School. The group plans to meet th6 second and fourth Thursdays of each month in the chapel of the Presbyterian Church. The minister. Rev. Kermit H. Howell Mr. and Mrs. George Alexander and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Richmond spent Washington's birthday in New York City. Miss Miriam Boisseau, Mrs. Helen Case, the JMisses Gertrude and Helen Koke wont to New York last Saturday, where they attended the opera "Lohengrin." Miss Margaret Harper went to Brooklyn to visit friends and rela- tives this week. The American Legion Auxiliary held their Americanism meeting on Monday evening of this week In the new Grange Hall. On Thursday, Feb. 24, there will be a chicken pie supper in the Methodist Church at 8 p. m. Mrs. L. A. Blodgett entertained a few friends and the teachers at tea last Friday afternoon. MRS. DE FOREST PAYNE Friends of Mrs. DeForest Payne were shocked by her sudden death on Monday night. Mrs. Payne was 48 years old and was in apparently good health, but lately she had had heart attacks, one of which proved fatal. The funeral will be held on Thursday. The sympathy of the community goes to this family up- on the loss of a -devoted wife and mother. NEW SUFFOLK Mr. and Mrs. George Howard spent the week-end in Montclair, N. J. Charles Walker spent Sunday with his mother. Mr. Walker has Just returned from a trip to Mi- ami. James Horton of Washington, D. Also at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Young in Calverton on Sunday. School was closed Monday, also on Tuesday (Washington's birth- day) giving teachers and scholars a four-day week-end vacation. Joyce Tuthill of Kaurel, spent the school holiday with her cousin, Miss Claire Fleischman. She had been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Frank Dawson at whose home she was suddenly taker 111. Mrs. William Mason returned home from Miami after a sojourn of six weeks. Joseph Ements, assistant solo 'cellist of the New York IMiilhar- monic Orchestra, recently mado Victor records with the famous vio- linist, Yehudl Menuhin, in New York. Mr. Ements, a member of the faculty of the Suffolk Conservatory of Music and Arts, will make his •second appearance in Riverhead with the Belgian Trio, this coming Spring. The Suffolk C6n.«ervatory Choral Society will hold an election of of- ficers at S:30 p. m. on the evening of Thursday, Feb. 24. The meeting will be held at the Conservatory. Joseph F. The Eleventh Annual Jimior Offi- cers' Conference of the Suffolk • ounty Boy Scouts will be held at the new Riverhead High School on Pulaski Street, on Saturday, March 26th. A special feature of this year's Conference will be a Camporee ex- hibit and demonstrations beginning at 11 o'clock In the morning. Se- lected Patrols will set up demon- stration Camporee units, showing how most. If not all, of the Cam- noree requirements can be met with '^cout-made equipment instead of with expensive professionally made equipment. The usual discussion program will begin in the afternoon at 2 o'clock and full details are being sent to nil of the seventy-five troops direct through their Scoutmasters. Superintendent of Schools E. W. Shafer has extended this Invitation through the authority of the Board of Education which approved the matter at a meeting on February 15th. Many of the Scouts are looking forward to haying opportunity to see the beautiful new Riverhead High School.
