• What is it?• -“Saluting is a courtesy exchanged between

members of the Armed Forces as both a greeting and a symbol of mutual respect.” Pg. 6, AFI1-1 7 AUGUST 2012

• Who? • - Commissioned officers, active or retired, and POC• When?• - While in uniform, outdoors. Salute indoors ONLY

when reporting in to meet with an officer or POC.

Reporting Procedures

• Center on the door or cubicle entrance and knock once • Enter, Center yourself 2 paces away from the

individual• Salute (officer or POC) and state: “Sir/Ma’am, Cadet

(last name)reports (as ordered).”• Hold the salute until the officer or POC drops their

salute and remain at the position of attention until told otherwise.

• At the end of a conversation, cadets will stand and assume the position of attention (if at a different position) and ask, “Will that be all sir/ma’am?”

• If so, take one step backwards, salute (if reporting to officers or POCs) and render the proper greeting of the day, leave, and take the most direct route out

• What?• -“Good morning/afternoon/evening

Sir/Ma’am.” More than one = “Ladies/Gentlemen”

• When?• 0000-1159 = “Good Morning Sir/Ma’am”• 1200-1659 = “Good Afternoon Sir/Ma’am”• 1700-2359 = “Good Evening Sir/Ma’am”

• When not to greet/salute– Cadre/POC on phone or behind you– When carrying large objects, just greet

• If you know Cadre/POC’s name greet them. – “Good Morning Maj. _____”– “Good Afternoon C/_____”

• When addressed by POC, stand at attention

• Office Policies- MUST report in when entering cadre member AND NCO offices unless told otherwise.- GMC MUST report into POC office when applicable. - Standing in doorway UNACCEPTABLE!

• Calling room to attention• NO Public displays of affection (PDA) or

inappropriate language and conversations • Voices kept LOW in detachment area• No SLEEPING in uniform in detachment area• Cadet areas are a PRIVILEGE, keep area clean!• NO conversations in hallways, move to cadet

room

• Right side of hallway when walking• Brace the wall when an Officer is in Hallway• Brace wall if not enough room• Stand at attention when Wing Staff walks in• When addressed at Lead Lab, stand at attention

and recite: “Sir/Ma’am, C/______, ___ Flight” then ask question or make statement
