Service to the Community July, 2015 Outreach to the TWU Clubhouse summer camp with QEP undergraduate Lauren

Whited, graduate students Geetha Ravindanathan, Sanil Sansar, and undergraduates Komla Senagbe and Kieu Pham. Ms. Whited developed a presentation on microscopy and C. elegans, pre- and post-assessments.

June, 2015 Outreach to McMath Middle School. ~120 sixth grade students. Slides developed for

six 40 minute presentations entitled, “Cells”. Four microscopy stations and specimens were brought in. With TWU graduate students Geethanjali Ravindranathan and Sanil Valappil, TWU undergrad Komla Senagbe, and research assistant Amy Jo Hammett.

May, 2015 Career Day visitor. 20 minutes. ~20 third grade students at Sam Houston Elementary

School. Slides developed for the presentation, “I am a geneticist and I use math.” Punnett square and human trait worksheet developed.

March, 2012 Brown Bag Career day. 1 hour. 60 second to fourth grade students at Pebble Creek

Elementary School. Slides developed for the two 15 minute presentations entitled, “Why I’m a scientist and why I work with ‘worms’.” Microscopy demonstration developed.
