Patricia Rivera, MD $175,000 A Multidisciplinary Collaboration to Assess Use of Guideline Recommended Molecular Biomarker Testing in Rural Versus Urban Lung Cancer Patients The objective of this pilot application is to explore rural/urban disparities associated with biomarker testing. We will accomplish this by linking lung cancer pathology reports from the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center Rapid Case Ascertainment Program with access and contextual factors from U.S. Census data to evaluate the impact of recent molecular advances in lung cancer treatment on health disparities. 2.NIH/NCI R01CA2120101A1 09/15/17-08/31/22 PI: Louise M. PENDING: 1.NIH/NCI R01CA251686-01 07/01/20-06/30/24 PIs: Louise M, Henderson, PhD and M. Patricia Rivera, MD $2,195,547 Comorbidity and Functional Status in a Population-Based Cohort of Patients Screened for Lung Cancer The objective of this application is to evaluate the extent to which patient comorbidities and functional status impact LCS outcomes in a population-based setting. Our proposal makes innovative use of an existing population-based registry of patients screened for lung cancer in North Carolina. We will link this screening data with administrative claims data to (1) augment the capture of comorbid conditions; (2) measure proxies for functional status and estimate life expectancy; and (3) determine the downstream consequences of screening.
