Research:

Conduct Soil fertility research on various crops and fruit trees and on soil

contaminants and trace metals in soils.

Assist in the research activity of the AGSC Department.

Supervise the research work of graduate students at the M.Sc. Level.

Scientific Core Laboratory Committee.

Supervise the soil and water laboratories, interpret results, and give

recommendations to farmers on fertilization programs and problem

solving.

B. August 1988 - June 1998:

Director, Research and Development of Department (R & D) at the National

Fertilizer Company (NAFCO), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Responsibilities:

Establishment of the R & D division at NAFCO, consisting of two

chemists, two agronomists, and eight part-time agricultural engineers.

In charge of the planning, and direction of the activities of the R & D

department.

Supervision of the soil, water, plant tissue, and fertilizer analysis

laboratory and also giving recommendations to farmers on fertilization

programs and problem solving.

Developed and formulated NAFKAL acidic fertilizers in different

forms: granular, suspension, liquid, and soluble powder (introduced

acidic fertilizer to the region).

Developed and formulated NFR fire retardant for Class-A materials.

Prepared NAFCO bulletins, promotional literature, and technical

reports discussing the results of research activities.

Represented NAFCO in national and international scientific meetings

Major advisor for M.Sc. degree candidate in Civil and Industrial Safety

(1997). This study was a joint research between King Saud University,

Civil Defense Department, and NAFCO.

C. December 1978 - August 1988:

Senior Soil Scientist and Head of the Soils and Irrigation Section (SI) at Regional

Agriculture and Water Research Center (RAWRC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at the same

time I was,

Adjunct Associate Professor on loan from the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Science,

American University of Beirut (AUB), and the United States Department of Agriculture

(USDA) to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water (MAW) under the auspices of the

United States-Saudi Arabian Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation (JECOR).

Also served as,

Adjunct Professor at California State University Fresno (CSUF), California. June 1983 -

August 1985 (Volunteer position).

Responsibilities:

Planning, organization, and supervision of the activities of the Soils and

Irrigation Section at RAWRC.

Coordinated the research programs of the senior staff and planning of

the long term research activities of the (SI) section.

Developed and implemented research programs in the fields of soil

chemistry, plant nutrition, and crop management.

Evaluated technical reports and feasibility studies submitted to the

Ministry of Agriculture and Water (MAW). These studies mainly dealt

with new development projects to be implemented in Saudi Arabia and

financed partially or completely by governmental funds.

Participated in the preparation of the soil map of The Kingdom of

Saudi

Arabia (MAW), December 1985.

Consulted for private farmers and large agricultural projects run by

national companies on problems relating to soil fertility and crop

management. This very often required field visits and review of

operations with management personnel.

Submitted written reports concerning the activities and achievements of

the SI section on a quarterly and annual basis and prepared the budget.

Supervised the research work for a graduate student (M.Sc.) at CSUF.

Field research was conducted at RAWRC.

Supervised the research work for a graduate student (PhD) at the State

University of Ghent, Ghent, Belgium. Field research and most of the

laboratory analysis were conducted in Saudi Arabia.

1. 1998-Present:

Participated in numerous workshops in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi

Arabia, UAE, Kuwait and Oman. In these workshops farmers were informed about

fertilization methods of different crops, vegetables and fruit trees. Also the subjects of

conservation agriculture, agricultural pollution, and composting were explained and

discussed in length.
