At the same time, this project sought to achieve a readiness to run a multicultural company, to create know-how resources to meet the various needs and settings of an innovative company, and to put those innovations to practice. This way, know-how will also have a positive effect on the company's return. This project concentrated on relocating production facilities from Finland to Rapla in Estonia. other parties in the occupational wellbeing sector, and placing the parties in a national and international network. Change management and improving wellbeing at work. Acted as project manager and developer in the ESF project 1 June 2007 – 31 December 2007. This project was aimed at promoting occupational wellbeing and improving change management skills in the municipalities of the Southern Pirkanmaa region (Akaa, Kylmäkoski, Urjala and Valkeakoski), in Lempäälä and in private companies in Tampere (KPM-Engineering and Aamulehden kirjapaino Print). It focused on improving change management skills and promoting occupational wellbeing in stressful times of change. In municipalities, we paid attention especially to how the older workers are coping. To allocate special support, employers could chart which of their employees were facing unemployment and/or how many employees were employed for a fixed term. The objective of this project was not only to improve leadership skills, but also to decrease workplace bullying, prevent social exclusion, minimise sickness leave and increase personnel wellbeing to enable the organisation to be more productive. Change management and well-being at work in municipalities in 2007–2009. Research project for the Local Government Pensions Institution. Acted as project manager and researcher from 1 January 2007 to 31 December 2009. This research project supported a related development project. The main research problem of this project was how occupational wellbeing could best be promoted in practical change processes in municipal organisations. Change management and developing occupational wellbeing in municipalities 2007. Funded by the Finnish Work Environment Fund. Acted as project manager and developer 1 May 2007 – 2 January 2008. Lempäälä, Hämeenkyrö and Pirkkala municipalities took part in a change project that reorganised personnel and payroll administration practices. The objective of the project was to unify personnel and payroll administration processes, find synergies and increase efficiency. We used an actual change project to create new practices, processes and data systems for human resources development and personnel administration. We also want to start development processes to help municipalities prepare for the future and especially to improve the quality of working life, productivity, leadership and work communities' mode of operation in collaborative efforts. Development programme for occupational wellbeing coaches: 2006–2007. An ESF-funded project. Acted as project manager and expert from 1 September 2006 to 30 November 2007. The purpose of this programme was to increase the productivity of partner organisations by investing in increasing their know-how on wellbeing at work because employee wellbeing is directly linked to productivity. At the same time, these organisations are given tools for evaluating the wellbeing of their work communities: they receive a toolbox and a 'condition survey', and we trained wellbeing coaches who could then act as occupational wellbeing experts, 'surveyors' and innovators in their workplace. In the long run, our objective was to create a nationwide network of occupational wellbeing coaches who could support and help each other in increasing knowledge on wellbeing at work. House of Possibilities, 2006–2007. An ESF-funded project managed by the Synergos Research and Education Centre Synergos of the School of Management of the University

Approximately 30 work communities and a total of 1500 people from 15 organisations in the Southern Pirkanmaa region participated in the project. Competence 50+. Anchor: Creating multiprofessional teams, 2004–2006. Acted as consultant and developer. Nanso Oy. Development project for a national coping-at-work programme, acted as consultant and trainer from 1 September 2000 to 30 August 2001. The purpose of this project was to promote managers' readiness to lead different-aged people whose coping at work varies and to encourage employees to influence their work. Member of the Competence Management Group research team at the Turku School of Economics. In charge: Professor Raimo Nurmi. Funding from the Foundation for Economic Education. Personnel development in the industry, 1996–1998. Research project by the Finnish Work Environment Fund. Acted as researcher and research team member and worked at the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Tampere. In charge: Professor Clas-Håkan Nygård. Topteam 1995–1997. ESF-funded development and education project based on a collaboration between eight companies; total budget roughly EUR 2.4 million. Acted as coordinator and action researcher at Saarioinen Oy. This project was aimed at improving productivity by increasing the independent initiative of employees, along with their communication skills, job satisfaction and business understanding. Research subjects were chosen because they had a higher number of sick days than the rest of the factory workers. Steps taken included training and developing the organisation, working conditions and functions in development teams set up for this purpose. Development needs were evaluated in a development needs study, repeated annually. As a result, employees' sense of life management and work management increased significantly during the project. Other variables measuring wellbeing also underwent statistically significant changes. The number of sick days fell by 8–16 per cent, whereas the number grew by 17 per cent in other departments. Moreover, staff understanding of business increased and the organisation began to operate in a more team-like manner. The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health selected this project to represent Finland as a case of good development practices in working life in the European Network Workplace Health Promotion conference on 31 May 1999. The project has been retrospectively evaluated in Työhyvinvointi ei ole sattumaa – tutkimus hyvien käytäntöjen vaikuttavuudesta (Notkola, 2002).
