Major Clinical Responsibilities/Achievements and Interests:

1. Establish of Pediatric Dysautonomia Center at Memorial Hermann Children’s

Hospital/University of Texas: This center was initiated in collaborative work between Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Neurology, Pediatric Immunology, Pediatric Gastroenterology and general Pediatrics services. The Center was led by myself and Dr. Ian Butler. Since establishment in October 2011 we evaluated and managed more than 480 patients with the symptoms of Autonomic dysfunction. The evaluation process includes: Head up Tilt table testing with sympathetic/parasympathetic evaluation, brain perfusion using Near-infra red spectrograph, cardiac stroke volume, peripheral systemic resistance, upper and lower systemic muscle perfusion, brain imaging (MRI, CT scan, CSF pressure and neurotransmitters) myelogram for CSF leak and skin biopsy for small fiber-neuropathy. From this collaborative work we are presented twenty abstracts at the American Autonomic Society meeting during the period from October 2012 till November 2016, three abstracts in Carrell-Krusen Neuromuscular Symposium and one abstract at the American College of Cardiology meeting in March 2013 and one abstract to Heart Rhythm Society meeting 2014

2. Establish of Pediatric Electrophysiology unit in the Pediatric Cardiology division at the University of Texas, Houston health Science Center. This unit was formed by me in March 2009. Currently the volume of this unit is about 100 ablations per year with 650 non-invasive EP tests/year.

3. Establish of Electrophysiology services in the State of Qatar. For the first time in this country the EP service was established by me to provide Electrophysiology care for adults and Pediatric patients at the State of Qatar in

11

November 2001. I was the director of this unit till March 2009. During these 8 years more than 500 interventional ablation procedures were performed on both adult and pediatric patients.

4. Congenital Heart interventional catheterization: Diagnostic hemodynamics and angiography Device closures of ASD, PDA, Peri membranous and muscular VSD,

Fenestrations and collaterals. Angioplasties and stent placements of pulmonary arteries, Aorta, Vena

cava and renal arteries. Trans septal punctures and atrial Septostomies Balloon aortic and pulmonary valvuloplasties

5. Cardiac Electrophysiology:

Noninvasive diagnostic procedures including Signal averaged ECG, Holter Monitoring, exercise testing, Tilt table test, Event monitors and T wave micro voltage.

Trans Esophageal Electrophysiology testing Implantation and management of Pace makers and ICD Implantation of Bi ventricular Resynchronization devices Performing invasive EP testing. Conducting ablative therapy using RF energy, Cryo ablation and cooled tip

ablation. Autonomic Tilt table testing. Including evaluation of cardiac Stroke volume,

Sympathetic/Parasympathetic tone, Heart rate and heart rate variability, Brain perfusion by Near Infra-Red Spectrography (NIRS) and beat to beat BP during several positions of the patient during the test.

6. Performing and interpretation of Congenital heart Echocardiography including fetal Echo, Intra Cardiac Echo (ICE) and 3- Dimensional Echo

Current Annual Clinical volume: Annual Clinic visits: 1100 visits (twice weekly half day clinic) Annual Invasive Procedures in the Cardiac catheterization Laboratory: 112 procedures. Annual Autonomic evaluations and Tilt table testing: 180 procedures Annual Non-invasive EP evaluation including Exercise test, Holter reporting, Event recorders, ECG’s, Pacemaker and ICD evaluations: 2100 tests Annual Echocardiography and Intracardiac Echo readings: 100 studies. CURRENT GRANT SUPPORT:
