PHC 6540 ­ Public Mental Health.

Introduction to the organization, structure, and management of public mental health organizations, emphasizing the history, current structure, and future of the community mental health movement, as well as collaborative efforts between not­for­profit and for­profit mental health/substance abuse organizations (graduate level course).

PHC 6541 ­ Mental Health Administration & Policy. The general principles of management theory, methods, administrative processes, and organizational structure of public and private mental health organizations in hospital and ambulatory care settings (graduate level course).

PHC 6543/MHS 6900 – Foundations in Behavioral Health Systems. Examination of the organization, financing, and delivery of behavioral health (including mental health and substance abuse) services in the United States, including law, policy, and ethics in mental health services delivery.

PHC 6934 ­ Behavioral Health Programs & Policies. Examination of programmatic, organizational and policy issues in behavioral health services organizations in the United States. Emphasis is placed upon programmatic and service delivery concerns within agencies serving the needs of special populations­at­risk (graduate level course). MHS 6640 – Mental Health Informatics. This course introduces the concept of mental health informatics, how informatics expands both provider and patient access to health care, with an emphasis on information and knowledge management. Current applications in informatics are presented, including bibliographic, numeric, and geographic databases. The status of behavioral telehealth programs will also be reviewed (graduate level course).

HSC 6552 – Community­Based Prevention in Behavioral Health. An examination of behavioral health prevention, promotion, and education initiatives and their application to selected at­risk populations (graduate level course).
