    MEDIA INFORMATION

MEDIA SEATINGAn event/media bench has been constructed on the home end. The bench offers wireless Internet, electrical outlets and TV’s, as does the media room, should you wish to file from there.

MEDIA ROOM/LOUNGEThe media room is located on the southwest side of the lower 100 level floor. It will open on Thursday, Feb. 27 for Wild Card team practices at 7 p.m. On Friday, Feb. 28 it will open from 10 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. On Saturday it will open at 11 a.m., and beginning Sunday through to the conclusion of the event it will open 30 minutes before the first draw of the day and close roughly one hour after the last draw.

The media room has electrical outlets, wireless Internet, a printer and television to assist in the production and distribution of media materials and media services.

INTERVIEW REGULATIONS/PROCEDURESYou will be required to fill out interview request forms, which will be available on the media bench and in the media room. Volunteers will be gathering the forms as the draw progresses and will hand them to requested players at the completion of their games. Players will be told they cannot leave the scrum area until they have fulfilled all requested interviews.

All post-game media interviews during the round robin will be conducted in a scrum format at ice level in a designated space adjacent to the media bench. All players have been instructed to exit through this area on their way to the dressing rooms. Every effort will be made to escort players to the specified area as quickly as possible after each draw.

For the final, arrangements may be made to offer a very brief scrum with the winner and/or loser, on or near the ice surface, prior to the closing ceremony.

DRAW STATISTICSA statistical report will be produced and limited copies distributed to the media shortly (about 15 minutes) after the conclusion of each draw. Live scores and stats can be viewed online at the Curling Canada website (www.curling.ca).

If you would like to receive the Draw Stats media report by email, please contact Al Cameron ([email protected] or 403-463-5500)

ACCREDITATIONThe accreditation office is in the northeast corner of the concourse next to Gate 1 and the volunteer lounge.

All media badges issued for the Tim Hortons Brier are non-transferable. Failure to follow this rule will result in forfeiture of your media credential.

TRANSPORTATIONShould you require courtesy transportation to and from the media hotel to Leon’s Centre for each draw, please call 1-844-299-CURL (2875). You must have the appropriate media credential in order to utilize the VIP/Media transportation service.

    CURLING CANADA PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES

All photographers must be identified with a B4 credential. You must also wear black/dark colour clothing and shoes.

In general, you are allowed to shoot from positions between the hoglines (starting about two metres from each hogline) on the carpeted areas separating the game sheets; in the corners of the arena; or behind the hack signs/scoreboards, provided you are not obscuring the vision of the spectators, blocking the scoreboard or in the way of the players.

Before entering the ice surface, please ensure that you have used the shoe cleaner, located near the home-end entrance, to remove dust, dirt and other particles from your shoes.

You are not allowed on the ice surface at any time.

    Also:

    • Flashes are not allowed.

    • If you are carrying a mobile device, turn it to silent before entering the ice surface.

    • No video can be shot from inside the boards.

    • Please photograph from a sitting or squatting position; not standing or kneeling. Please shift your position at appropriate

intervals to not consistently block the view of the same spectators.

    • When moving along the walkway, ensure that no player is in the process of delivering a rock. If the curler is delivering,

please wait until the deliver is complete before crossing the carpet at the end of the sheet.

    • When a player is about to deliver a stone, you must be behind the hack signs/scoreboards, or situated between the hoglines.

    • For playoff games, special instructions will be issued for photo locations in conjunction with the location of TSN’s cameras.

In general, though, you should avoid being in the TSN shot at all times.

    Thank you for your co-operation.

Failure to adhere to these regulations could result in the forfeiture of your photography credential.

TV NON-RIGHTS HOLDERSTSN is the sole TV rights-holder for the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier, thus no cameras/portable video devices from any other media affiliation are allowed inside the boards during morning, afternoon and evening draws.

However, in order to provide other stations and/or networks with an opportunity to get brief game/highlight footage, approved camera positions will be available at certain locations outside the boards around the perimeter or at various places on the concourse level or press box, provided your position at no time blocks the view of spectators nor presents a fire access hazard. Please ensure that your camera has no visible logo. If so, please cover it up.

You are allowed to air two minutes of game footage daily, provided the game footage is not from a game being televised as the feature game by TSN, in which case you must use their highlights with the appropriate credit.

The main media scrum takes place at ice level near the media bench. There will be an appropriate backdrop/signage noting the area. All players will pass by this area en route to their dressing rooms.

TV cameras must allow the media scrum to first interview any requested players before arranging individual interviews. However, cameras may be part of any scrum. For TV non rights-holders, you are allowed to air as much footage from the scrums as you wish.

When all games have been completed for any draw AND when TSN has concluded its telecast and is off the air, you are allowed to do ‘stand-ups’ or interviews at ice level on the carpeted areas, near the scoreboards or even inside the boards, provided you are not disrupting the ice technicians as they prepare the surface for the next draw.

For brief live hits, if TSN is not on the air, you will be able to do stand-ups on the concourse, seating areas, etc., providing any lighting requirements have been pre-approved. When TSN is on the air, NO live hits are allowed.

Thank you. If there are any questions, please contact (on-site):

2018 HOME HARDWARE CANADA CUP ANNOUNCEMENT

KINGSTON, ONT., TO PLAY HOST TO 2020 TIM HORTONS BRIERAfter waiting for more than a half-century, Kingston, Ont., will get its long-awaited second opportunity to host the world’s most famous national curling championship.

The 2020 Tim Hortons Brier, presented by AGI, will be played Feb. 29-March 8 at the Leon’s Centre in downtown Kingston, it was announced today by Curling Canada.

“Curling Canada received so many strong bids for the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier, so it was not an easy decision for our event operations team, but Kingston’s bid committee put together an outstanding package,” said Maureen Miller, Chair of Curling Canada’s Board of Governors. “It will be an exciting nine days, and I’m positive that fans and competitors alike will get the royal treatment in Kingston.”

Kingston last hosted the Brier in 1957 when Alberta’s Matt Baldwin hoisted the Brier Tankard following a perfect 10-0 round-robin performance at the Kingston Memorial Centre.

“After over a year of working hard on our bid, I’m thrilled that Kingston has been chosen to host the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier, the most prestigious annual curling event,” said Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson. “The 2020 Tim Hortons Brier is expected to bring 130,000 spectators and millions of dollars in economic impact to our city! This is amazing news for Kingston!”

The 6,700-seat Leon’s Centre, located at 1 Tragically Hip Way, opened in February 2008 and is home to the Ontario Hockey League’s Kingston Frontenacs.

The arena is no stranger to championship curling, having played host to the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts when Ontario’s Rachel Homan claimed her first Canadian women’s curling championship.

Kingston also played host to a highly successful Travelers Canadian Curling Club Championship in 2017 at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club.

Additionally, the Royal Kingston Curling Club — one of five clubs that represent Greater Kingston Curling — will be celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2020.

“Congratulations to the City of Kingston on hosting the 2020 Brier, Canada’s Men’s Curling Championship,” said Sylvia Jones, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “Kingston is home to one of the oldest curling clubs in Canada, and it’s fitting that the championship is coming back to the city. Great sports like curling strengthen communities and bring us closer together. The Tim Hortons Brier will have a very positive economic impact for Kingston.”

The 2020 Tim Hortons Brier will mark the 16th edition with title sponsorship from Canada’s best-known quick-service restaurant chain.

“Tim Hortons has a long and proud history of supporting curling in Canada, from the sponsorship of premier events like the Brier to local youth curling programs,” said Jorge Zaidan, Head of Marketing, Tim Hortons Canada. “We are thrilled to once again be the title sponsor of the 2020 Tim Hortons Bier to be held in Kingston, Ontario. We look forward to joining in the celebrations with both the curling and Kingston communities.”

It will be the 31st time the Brier has been played in Ontario, the most of any Canadian province or territory. Ten teams representing Ontario have won the Brier, most recently Glenn Howard in 2012 and 2007.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Canada’s best men’s curling teams back to Ontario, and the committee in Kingston is ready to go to work to make it a great show in 2020,” said Stephen Chenier, Executive Director of CurlON. “This will be a superb showcase for our sport, and a wonderful opportunity to expose the City of Kingston and our province to the rest of the country.”

The winner of the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier will represent Canada a month later at the World Men’s Curling Championship March 28 to April 5 in Glasgow, Scotland. Additionally, the winning team will return to defend its title as Team Canada at the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier.

“Bringing the Tim Hortons Brier back to Kingston has been a dream for a lot of us for a long, long time and we’re ecstatic that Curling Canada has given us this opportunity,” said Ken Thompson, Chair of the Kingston Brier Bid Committee. “We’ve got some amazing volunteers and fans in our city, and we’re truly excited to get to work to make the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier a success on every level.”

Tickets for the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier, the 91st edition of the championship, are expected to go on sale early in 2019.

The Brier has been played in 31 cities across Canada, from Victoria to St. John’s. Manitoba and Alberta are tied for victories with 27 apiece. New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut have yet to win.
