What’s new

2 Release Notes September 30, 2010

What’s newThe following topics describe new features and enhancements that are now available in Control-M/EM version 7.0.00:

■ “Windows 64-bit platform support” on page 2■ “Workload Management” on page 2■ “Version Manager” on page 2■ “Annotation” on page 3■ “Reporting Facility” on page 3■ “Active Directory/LDAP group level authentication” on page 3■ “Additional enhancements” on page 3

Windows 64-bit platform support

Control-M/Enterprise Manager components now fully support 64-bit Windows platforms.

Workload Management

You can define a set of rules on a group of jobs with the new Workload Management. feature that enables you to do the following:

■ Limit the resources available to the group of jobs■ Limit the number of jobs within the group that are concurrently running■ Route specific jobs within the group to a specific node or node group

This feature improves your ability to control, manage, and balance the use of resources in the active environment (CAR00038714).

Version Manager

You can now roll back multiple job definitions to a specific point in time with a single action from the Version Manager in Control-M/Desktop (CAR00040413).

Page 3: CTM 7 Features

Annotation

Control-M/Enterprise Manager 3

Annotation

Specific user actions can now require users to write a free text annotation, describing the reason for the action, before the action is performed.

System administrators can define which actions require user annotation from the Control-M Configuration Manager.

User annotations are included with the Audit Report from the Reporting Facility (CAR00038758).

Reporting Facility

For this version, the Reporting Facility provides the user with new features and functionality that make reporting easier than ever:

■ The GUI interface has a completely enhanced look and feel (CAR00041630).

■ The Reporting Facility is available to all end users without the need to install a database client on Control-M/EM client computers.

■ You can summarize report data by report fields. This allows you to group report results by any of the statistical functions such as value counts, averages, maximum, and minimum values. A graph of the results can also be displayed as part of the report. (CAR00033237) and (WECS006981)

■ Job definition fields with multiple values can be included in a report. For example, Conditions and Quantitative Resources fields. (WECS006913)

Active Directory/LDAP group level authentication

LDAP or Active Directory (AD) users can now log into Control-M/EM without the need to be defined individually in Control-M/EM, which eliminates the need to add, delete, or modify users in both LDAP/AD and Control-M/EM (CAR00038537).

Additional enhancements

Table 1 describes additional enhancements that are now available in Control-M/EM version 7.0.00.

Table 1 Control-M/EM enhancements (part 1 of 2)

Tracking # Description

CAR00033213 You can now keep tables locked after they have been written to Control-M/EM, to prevent another user from overwriting it.

CAR00033218 For individual Control-M for z/OS jobs, you can now specify whether to attach sysouts to e-mailed shout messages. Previously, this could only be globally applied.

CAR00033221 You can now define Control-M for z/OS cyclic jobs to run at specific times or to rerun with various offsets.

CAR00033223 Values which are longer than the various field lengths of the job editing form can now be viewed in their entirety, without using the scroll option, by opening a text box that displays the complete value.

CAR00033271 Control-M Server system parameters can now be configured from the Control-M Configuration Manager.

CAR00033274 You can now manage Control-M Shout destination tables from the Control-M Configuration Manager.

CAR00034004 The maximum length of the Control-M/EM user ID is now 64 characters. The DBO user ID is 30 characters.

CAR00037612 You can now use DBUtils to perform common database operations and generate reports for both Control-M/EM and Control-M/Server on Oracle and MSSQL databases.

CAR00037663 You can now enable or disable SSL communication mode for specific agents from the Control-M Configuration Manager. For example, you can set Control-M/Server to communicate in SSL mode with an agent running in a DMZ environment.

CAR00038357 You can generate a Managed Servers report from the Reporting Facility. The report provides information regarding hardware configuration and operating systems on all servers that contain Control-M components or are running jobs.

CAR00038358 Performance related measurements are now kept for Control-M/EM and related components. This information can be collected using the Diagnostics Data Collection option in the Control-M Configuration Manager.

CAR00038359 You can now collect diagnostic data for all Control-M components from the Control-M Configuration Manager.

CAR00038997 A nested hierarchy of job containers in the form of tables and sub-tables can now be defined and monitored. Sub-tables can inherit scheduling criteria from its parent table.

CAR00039761 The View Sysout window can now open automatically when a job has only one Sysout in the Sysout List window.

CAR00039837 You can now install Control-M/EM on UNIX with a GUI, or with CLI when XServer is not available.

CAR00039870 You can now prepare Control-M/EM Web Launch packages from the Control-M Configuration Manger.

PostgreSQL is now the only database server supplied by BMC Software

6 Release Notes September 30, 2010

■ “Terminology changes” on page 6

PostgreSQL is now the only database server supplied by BMC Software

Database servers supported in past versions are also supported for version 7.0.00. PostgreSQL is supplied by BMC Software. All other supported database servers will be supplied by the customer.

For more information on supported database servers, see “Control-M/EM server compatibility with Windows” on page 10 and “Control-M/EM server compatibility with UNIX/Linux” on page 11.

"BMC-supplied" replaces "Dedicated"

The terms Dedicated and Existing are no longer used to describe supported database servers.

For version 7.0.00, BMC-supplied replaces Dedicated and applies solely to PostgreSQL. The term BMC-supplied emphasizes that only the PostgreSQL database server supplied by BMC Software can be used with Control-M/EM and Control-M/Server.

All other supported database servers and clients, including clients installed by BMC Software, are fully native versions of their respective brands, and as such, a special term for them (referred to as Existing in previous versions) is no longer required.
