CTE in Nevada has undergone some positive changes in the past few years that have impacted CTE College Credit (formerly Tech Prep). We have a new name that better expresses what the program is about; new eligibility requirements that are aligned with the requirements to earn a State Certificate of Skills Attainment; and an even more expansive list of college credit eligible CTE programs that lead to CSN degree and certificate pathways! Did you know that in the past five years CTE College Credit has awarded nearly $5 million dollars in college tuition savings to Southern Nevada high school students? Just last year we saw an increase of 5% in college credit earners from the previous academic year. We had a total of 2,063 students earn 10,388 CSN college credit in 2,977 CSN courses. This represents a savings of $877,786 in tuition value! I look forward in continuing to strengthen the CTE partnerships that benefit students of Nevada in their educational journey; as they transition from high school into college. WHAT IS CTE COLLEGE CREDIT? CTE College Credit is a program that grants FREE college credit for approved high school career and technical education (CTE) programs. CTE programs are a sequence of high school elective classes (generally three years), taught at the high school by high school teachers, preparing students to be College and Career Ready! There are over 70 CTE programs offered in high schools throughout Nevada, many of which are approved and articulated for CSN college credit. The college credit awarded is designed to give students a head start on their pathway towards completing requirements within an industry certification, CSN certificate of achievement or CSN associates degree. CTE College Credit gives students the ability to minimize the repetition of similar coursework in college and save money.

CTE STUDENTS GRADUATE AT HIGHER RATESStudent engagement in career pathways can lead to higher graduation rates, as demonstrated through the comparison of the Nevada graduating class of 2015 cohorts of CTE students and the general student population. The ndings indicate that the graduation rate for CTE students is 83.8% or 13 percentage points higher than the overall graduation rate of 70.8% for all Nevada students.
