Internal Round-Table Talks HeldHino Motors has engaged in organized CSR activities since fiscal 2006. In April 2009, an in-house survey was conducted in an attempt to determine the level of CSR awareness among employees, and to identify those areas and issues that need to be addressed to promote increased acceptance and understanding. Later, on June 4, 2009, 11 employees came together in round-table talks to discuss the results of the survey.

Hino Motors manufactures and sells commercial vehicles including dump trucks used in mining development to transport such products as coal across locations spread throughout the world. The Company is endeavoring to realize its strong aspiration to meet the needs of countries around the world through its monozukuri (value-added manufacturing) skills while stepping up its efforts in Indonesia, Asia’s top exporter of coal, and India, the world’s third largest coal producer.

The scope of Hino Motors’ CSR activities and the CSR GuidelinesHino Motors established the HINO Credo in July 2007 after reviewing its corporate philosophy from the viewpoint of corporate social responsibility (CSR).

In fiscal 2008, Hino Motors formulated specific CSR Guidelines as the basis for realizing the HINO Credo. In identifying three core domains that collectively comprise the scope of its CSR activities, the Company positioned the second domain — business-based social contribution activities — and the third domain — non-business based social contribution activities — as the focus and guideposts of its CSR endeavors.

In an effort to raise awareness of its CSR Guidelines, Hino Motors conducted a company-wide survey and held round-table talks among certain employees in fiscal 2009. Drawing on the results of the survey and discussions, the Company’s Corporate Planning Division is considering each issue from a variety of different angles as it strives to identify and implement measures that will further enhance employees’ appreciation and understanding of the CSR Guidelines.

Stance and Initiatives Aimed at Enhancing Customer SatisfactionHino Motors places the highest emphasis on the “customer first” (CF) policy in its efforts to enhance customer satisfaction as well as quality.

A broad spectrum of customer consultation issues and queries are received through the customer hotline in Japan. At the same time, utilizing customer satisfaction (CS) surveys conducted by the Customer Office, Hino Motors is endeavoring to implement wide ranging improvement measures.

As a part of the Company’s efforts to enhance product and service quality, the HINO Quality Assurance (HQA) System has been extended across its network of domestic dealers. In addition to building a structure and system that collects information directly from customers, the Company is reinforcing its capabilities to swiftly address quality assurance issues. Looking ahead, Hino Motors will work to introduce the HQA system to its overseas dealers. Steps will also be taken to further improve system quality by consolidating with information gathered from suppliers.

Development of Human ResourcesIn order to coordinate and promote the employment of people with disabilities, in 2007 Hino Motors established Hino Harmony, Ltd., an accredited special subsidiary in Japan. In addition, the Company is making efforts to expand the scope and variety of employment alternatives. One such example is the introduction of a re-employment system for retired workers. From the perspectives of human resource development and education, Hino Motors is augmenting its training systems to focus increasingly on the development of skills and competencies with an eye to cultivating quality personnel. With the aim of passing on its time-honored monozukuri (value-added manufacturing) skills from one generation to the next, Hino Motors is also promoting a company-wide exchange of capabilities and competencies along with education through the Hino Technical Skills Academy.

Initiatives that Help Create an Ideal Working EnvironmentHino Motors has established an occupational safety and health management structure and system to ensure the safety and health of its employees. In addition to the implementation of occupational safety and health education, the Company is augmenting its employee mental health care programs. Working to enhance employee welfare benefits that encompass work-life balance, and making efforts to support the nurturing of the next generation, the Company is undertaking a review of employee work styles and formats.

With Our DealersHino Motors has positioned the corporate slogan “addressing customer expectations in a real and concrete manner” as the driving force behind its domestic sales and marketing activities.

Guided by this slogan, dealers and manufacturers work in unison to address the expectations of customers in Japan. These efforts not only encompass the delivery of quality trucks and buses, but also after-sales services including maintenance, hospitality, 24-hour service and driving education. In nurturing relationships of trust through close communication with dealers, Hino Motors conducts meetings to exchange information on a variety of issues including the environment. At the same time, the Company is active in its efforts to establish cooperative structures and systems built on enhanced global communication.

Basic approach to IR activitiesIn order to assist shareholders in obtaining an accurate and deeper understanding of the Company, Hino Motors places considerable importance on timely and relevant disclosure of its business activities. In addition to interviews with the mass media and regular investor and analyst meetings, the Company provides public information on those measures and initiatives that address pending issues and improvements in performance. This and other information is publicly disclosed on the Company’s Web site.

Providing Vehicles for Use as a Mobile LibraryHino Motors’ subsidiary in Indonesia donated a utility truck to a local NPO for use as a mobile library. In promoting the importance of forestry preservation as well as protection of the orangutan through reading materials, this donation and ultimately the mobile library concept is an attempt to showcase the benefits of knowledge gained from reading books.

As a part of this mission, and in an effort to enhance suppliers’ understanding of Hino Motors’ corporate philosophy, CSR activity domains and related concepts, the Company has begun formulating a CSR procurement policy. Hino Motors strives to nurture fair and open relationships so that transactions with suppliers continue on an uninterrupted basis.

Reflecting measures to further strengthen communication with suppliers, Hino Motors holds an annual suppliers meeting. In fiscal 2008, 326 companies participated in the event.
