    Overview

    QUALCOMM's CSM6800 Cell Site Modem

(CSM) device is a CDMA digital baseband modem

for infrastructure and test equipment that supports

    CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A, enabling

network operators to provide a broad range of

next-generation wireless multimedia and other data

services for consumers and enterprise customers.

The CSM6800 solution is backward compatible with CDMA2000 1xEV-DO

Revision 0, allowing operators a seamless migration path to

    next-generation multimedia services. CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A

networks are optimized for packet data service, and support higher data

rate forward and reverse links and lower data latency enabling on-line

3D gaming, high quality still image and video clip uploading, higher

resolution and faster frame-rate video telephony and other rich multimedia

services. By minimizing transmission delay and data loss while maximizing

throughput, CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A networks enable richer

multimedia capabilities and improve the overall user experience.

Enabling the highest level of integration, the CSM6800 device represents

the latest modem architecture for the CDMA2000 1x EV-DO family.

    CSM6800 Device Description

The CSM6800 single-chip solution delivers a significant chip count

reduction to infrastructure equipment manufacturers for their

CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A base station products, allowing

significant form factor reductions while maintaining backward

    compatibility with CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision 0. Supporting 192

forward link (FL) and reverse link (RL) channel elements and four-

way receive diversity, the CSM6800 solution delivers eight times the

user capacity of QUALCOMM's CSM5500 solution for CDMA2000

1xEV-DO Revision 0. Increased user capacity allows infrastructure

equipment manufacturers and network operators to cost-effectively

upgrade their existing CDMA2000 1xEV-DO equipment to provide

substantially higher network capacity improvements and equipment

    space savings.

Quality of Service (QoS) improves the user's multimedia experience by

enabling the system to manage various users and applications with

different levels of priority. The CSM6800 system also has the ability to

recognize the delay and bandwidth requirements of different types of

data traffic, such as wireless gaming and Voice over Internet Protocol(VOIP), and to ensure that those requirements are met efficiently.
