Lacy Linen NapkinsCS0106
Designed by: Rebecca Kemp Brent
Skill Level: Experienced
Create these beautiful linen napkins for your table or as a gift
for a special bride.
Cuff Supplies:
• Dual Duty XP Fine thread in matching colors
• 54"-wide linen fabric (1/2 yard will make three napkins)*
• Water-soluble stabilizer
• Freestanding lace embroidery designs (see Sources for
details)
*TIP: Buy an extra 1/8 yard to ensure enough length after
straightening the fabric.
Step 1:
1. Thread both needle and bobbin with the same color of
Dual Duty XP Fine thread.
2. Hoop water-soluble stabilizer and stitch the freestanding
motifs needed for the number of napkins you plan to make.
3. Trim away the excess stabilizer, and follow the digitizer's
instructions to remove all the stabilizer from the embroidered
laces. Lay the lace at on a towel to dry. Lightly steam press,
if necessary, to atten any edges that curl.
4. Pull a thread across the fabric width to straighten oneedge of the linen. Cut along the pulled thread.
5. Divide the linen into 17" squares, pulling threads to ensure
straight cuts.
6. Press under 1/4" twice on each napkin edge. Miter the
corners to reduce bulk.
7. With Dual Duty XP Fine in needle and bobbin, stitch the
hems in place.
8. Position a lace motif at one corner of the napkin. Set the
machine for a zigzag stitch 2.0 - 2.5 mm wide and 1.0 mm
long. Stitch over the lace motif edges to join the lace to the
napkin.
9. Turn the napkin to the wrong side. Cut away the linen un-
derneath the lace, leaving a 1/2" hem allowance. Press the
hem allowances away from the lace (A).
