March 2017 President’s Message It has been 98 months since I last wrote a President’s Message so out of curiosity I went to the archives and read what I wrote then. I was not too surprised to see a lot of familiar names being mentioned. Sharolyn Kerns was Secretary, Mike Newell was the President-elect (with Joe Pifer taking over the V/P job), Ralph Garcia was STREAK chairman, Ronnie Adair was Treasurer, etc. So despite the passing of over eight years, the same reliable folks are still keeping YOUR club running smoothly. I’m making this observation to remind all of the membership to keep in mind the efforts of all those core people that make this club work. Let them know how much you appreciate their great work. Speaking of great work, I want to thank Denise Hume for three years of extraordinary work as our President. This will be my fourth turn as club President, but I will state right here that I never worked as hard at the job as Denise has. During all three of her terms as President I was the STREAK chairman and benefited from her untiring efforts to support the STREAK committee. Thanks Denise! After the confusion of the December elections I know there was a great deal of uncertainty and dissatisfaction among the membership. Some folks expressed their concern that the club was “in trouble” and in danger of breaking up. As a member of the club since it was fou nded, I stated then, and will repeat now that no such event is going to happen anytime soon. Patti and I have witnessed and experienced many interesting times with the Over the Hill Gang including fist fights, car wrecks, several unexpected deaths, break-away groups of members, massive arguments over t-shirt colors and other crises too numerous to mention. Guess what? The club is still here! So remember, like with raising children, this is just a phase. There are far too many good folks, great friendships, and fun events in the future for this club to fail. The last paragraph of my last President’s message read as follows and still holds true; The Over the Hill Gang San Diego is the most copied car club in the western United States because of the people that have devoted their time, efforts and resources to make it the best. With your help we can continue that tradition of greatness. Bill Hogue, President Cruise News

March 2017 President’s Message

It has been 98 months since I last wrote a President’s Message so out of curiosity I went to the

archives and read what I wrote then. I was not too surprised to see a lot of familiar names being

mentioned. Sharolyn Kerns was Secretary, Mike Newell was the President-elect (with Joe Pifer

taking over the V/P job), Ralph Garcia was STREAK chairman, Ronnie Adair was Treasurer,

etc. So despite the passing of over eight years, the same reliable folks are still keeping YOUR

club running smoothly. I’m making this observation to remind all of the membership to keep in

mind the efforts of all those core people that make this club work. Let them know how much

you appreciate their great work.

Speaking of great work, I want to thank Denise Hume for three years of extraordinary work as

our President. This will be my fourth turn as club President, but I will state right here that I

never worked as hard at the job as Denise has. During all three of her terms as President I was

the STREAK chairman and benefited from her untiring efforts to support the STREAK

committee. Thanks Denise!

After the confusion of the December elections I know there was a great deal of uncertainty and

dissatisfaction among the membership. Some folks expressed their concern that the club was

“in trouble” and in danger of breaking up. As a member of the club since it was founded, I

stated then, and will repeat now that no such event is going to happen anytime soon. Patti and I

have witnessed and experienced many interesting times with the Over the Hill Gang including

fist fights, car wrecks, several unexpected deaths, break-away groups of members, massive

arguments over t-shirt colors and other crises too numerous to mention. Guess what? The club

is still here! So remember, like with raising children, this is just a phase. There are far too

many good folks, great friendships, and fun events in the future for this club to fail. The last

paragraph of my last President’s message read as follows and still holds true;

The Over the Hill Gang San Diego is the most copied car club in the western United States

because of the people that have devoted their time, efforts and resources to make it the best.

With your help we can continue that tradition of greatness.

Subject: OTHGSDNC Cruisin' Grand Club Night and Annual Pizza Dinner, June 9th 2017. Hello Bill and fellow OTHG Members. Once again it is my pleasure on behalf of the North County Chapter to invite our fellow OTHG Chapters to our Annual Cruisin' Grand Club Night and Pizza Feast, Friday, June 9th 2017. You all know the drill. EXCEPT, this year the North County Chapter have decided NOT TO PACK EVERYBODY into the restaurant as we have in the past. This year we will set up Pop Ups and Tables along the East side of Broadway and bring the Pizza to the People. We will supply Paper Plates, Napkins, assorted Sodas and Waters, Sporks and Foons, etc. That way we can have more room to move around and be more social between the groups. Also, if anyone wants something different, they can go, bring it back and still be social. Tentatively Pizza will be served around 5:30pm-ish. So bring a comfy chair and be pre paired to eat Pizza Pik-Nik Style. The North County Gang looks forward to seeing everyone. Thank You, Greg Copeland 760-757-3435

Thank you cards received from the families who used the Final Honor horse drawn carriage.

“Thank you so much. My Father and Daughter were beautifully and honorably taken to their final resting

places. Entire family’s overwhelming gratitude so much love came with the ride too.” Watson’s

“Thank you so much for the contribution that enabled the horse drawn carriage to carry my brother, Don, to his

final resting place at Miramar. On behalf of my family, we really appreciate the gesture. You guys and Lemon

Grove rock!” Bluscomb’s

“Thank you so much for sponsoring the Final Honor at my husbands burial yesterday. It was a fitting tribute to

a good man. It was beautiful.” Coombe’s

“You were there in the rain on the 23rd

, carrying my husband’s urn.. Magnificent and regal. I thank you. It will

be remembered.” Coswell’s

And from the people who run Final Honor; “Always nice to hear from your group. I am glad members come

up and introduce themselves if they attend any services at Miramar and very happy to know they are proud to

help support our cause.” Signed: Suzanne, Wayne, Alden, Gillian & Sarah also the horses Katy & Kandy
