Remember Your Flowers
One of the most beau.ful expressions of our Easter joy is
our flower cross. Perhaps an early spring will mean lots of
flowers available. Bring them to flower the cross before our
Easter worship.

As Pastor Gary con nues to recover from
surgery, here’s one of his favorite ar cles he
wrote over ten years ago.
Some things you might not know:
• There are male pine trees and female pine trees,
and the males are the ones that put out all this
yellow stuff all over the place, hoping it will find a
female tree.
• The pollen on your car may have come from Ala-
bama. Pine pollen is very buoyant and can travel in
the air for hundreds of miles.
• If you’re having sinus trouble, you can’t blame the
pine trees. Their pollen is too big — you are re-
ac%ng to all the other pollen out there along with
it.
• In China, they collect pine pollen manually and eat
it as a delicacy and a health food.
• It’s a nui-
sance that
we get really
%red of for
about two
weeks every
spring.
I’ll bet you knew
that last one. As
I write this, my
car outside is covered in a dus%ng of yellow/green
grains — and I know there’s no need to wash it yet
because it would be covered again by the %me I fin-
ished.
And the weather has been wonderful, but we don’t
dare open the windows at home or we’d have yellow/
green furniture.
I hear people talking about their eyes, par%cularly if
they wear contact lenses, I hear sniffles and coughs
during the sermons, and it’s the only %me when the
need for a rain to wash it all away seems to be the
topic everyone talks about.
It’s a real harbinger of spring, but one we typically
can’t wait to be over, in part because we know that
dogwood and azalea season is almost here.
To me, the pine pollen means that
something else is almost here too.
You see, I really like pine pollen sea-
son. When I see my yellow car, I get
a sa%sfying feeling somewhere deep
inside that life has won again.
We’ve come through another win-
ter — cold temperatures, bare
branches, bi,er winds, dark days.
But the story didn’t end there.
No...spring has come, and in a mystery far beyond my
understanding, our dead, barren world bursts forth
into life before our eyes. The future is embraced. The
promise is fulfilled.
That’s the message of the pine pollen.
Yes, it’s spring, but the pine pollen means even more
that it’s Easter. Easter — that wonderful, astounding,
stunning gi0 of grace that assures us that as dark and
empty and barren as our world may seem, as bi,er
and bi%ng as death itself seems, it’s not the end of the
story.
From a tomb, life came forth.
Easter means the future is embraced. Easter means
the promise is fulfilled. Easter means that all that is
wrong, God has now made right. And that grace is
pervasive — everywhere, covering everything — just
like the pine pollen does. Death isn’t the end. Life is.
Rejoice in the yellow stuff! Pollinate the world with
the news! Jesus lives! And with him, so do we.

In Appreciaon
Each month the Church Council recognizes and
thanks those among us who have offered themselves
to the work of the church in special ways. This month
we appreciate:
Our Wednesday meal teams which provide support
to our Wednesday programs and a wonderful fellow-
ship opportunity,
and to the whole congregaon for serving as
Bereavement Teams to offer love and support
to our church family in 3mes of sorrow and
loss.
A Note about
Church Council
The council did not meet in the
month of February, therefore
there is no council report for this month.
To My Redeemer Family,
Thank you so much for the very
generous gradua3on gi? and
party! You all mean so much to
me, and I truly consider you
family.
Thank you for puCng up with me since high school, and
for always suppor3ng me.
Sing on! Love,
Amanda Kaiser
Members of Redeemer,
Many thanks for the calls, texts, and cards I
have received since my surgery and hospitaliza-
3on. You may not know this, but this is such a
highlight of your day when you are confined
and not feeling your best. Thank you for think-
ing of me.
Fondly,
Jane Higgins
Redeemer Friends,
Thank you for all of the cards and prayers for Lois Merkle
since she moved away from Redeemer. She certainly did
appreciate them. We will keep you informed as to her
memorial later in the spring or summer.

Leisure Times in March
On Thursday, March 15th, at noon, Redeemer Lei-

fellowship hall. There will be sign up sheets for our
April and May trips. Please bring covered dishes to
share with our group and our guests we will have

of the rainbow"! May
the luck of the Irish be
with you all. Visitors are
always welcome. Con-
tact Cathy Stu1s at 772-
7289,
or at church, if you have
any ques3ons.
A Li2le Locke Is on the Way
When he was a seminarian, Daniel Locke took such
an ac3ve role in the life and ministry of Redeemer.
Now, he is an ordained pastor
serving a church in Jackson-
ville, FL. The church has re-
ceived a no3ce from him that
he and his wife, Sarah, are
expec3ng a child in late July.
We offer our congratula3ons
and prayers.
Family Promise Update
It is that 3me again! Family Promise is coming
back! Redeemer will be hos3ng Sunday, April 1st
through Sunday, April 8th. The Volunteer sign up
board will be out in the narthex beginning Febru-
ary 25th. Because the families will be moving in on
Easter Sunday we will be emptying out the Sunday
School rooms and preparing for the families on Saturday,
March 31st
at 10:30am. Therefore, we will only need to set
up beds Sunday a?er worship. If
you are interested in volunteer-
ing, but need more informa3on,
please feel free to contact Shan-
non Smith or any of the team
leaders– Carmen Moore for Even-
ing Hosts and Laundry, Greg Cross
for Overnight Hosts, Pat Crosby
for Meals, and Joe Leonardi for
Set-Up and Break-Down. You may
contact any of the Family Promise Leaders at our email ad-
dress: [email protected]. Volunteer train-

unteers. We will have a “Meet the Families” session, Sun-
day, March 25th directly a?er worship in the sanctuary
providing specific informa3on concerning the families we will
be hos3ng. We’re excited to host, and care for these families
here at Redeemer and make Christ known! Through every
meal served, every linen washed, every conversa3on had and
in every moment of laughter shared…YOU make a difference!
Check out the volunteer board in the Narthex to see where
you can make a difference!
The Redeemer Family: Looking Forward! Mark your calendar!
Saturday, March 24th
will be Redeemer’s annual Spring Fling from 1:00-3:00. De-
pending on the weather, we may be inside or outside, but regardless it is sure to
be a great 3me! We will have light snacks and drinks, cra?s, and Easter Egg Hunts
for all the children (birth through 5th
grade). Of course, the Easter Bunny will make
an appearance. Invite your friends, family and neighbors.
If you would like to contribute eggs for the hunt, please place those in the box in
the narthex. We ask that you have the eggs already stuffed with the candy in
them, and please avoid candy with nuts because of allergies.
The next Saturday, March 31st
Redeemer is signed up to serve the meal for Resur-
recons in downtown Columbia. Please meet at Redeemer at 10:15 and then you will carpool over to Suggs and Kelly
Law firm where we will help set up and serve the meal for the guests. We will be finished by 1:00 at the latest. If
you’re able to help, please sign up in the narthex.
Join your Redeemer Family at the Ball Park! Sunday, April 8th
,Redeemer will be headed to Spirit Communica3ons
Park to see the Columbia Fireflies on their opening weekend! Game 3me is at 2:05 and 3ckets are $10/person. We

A Time to Prepare
Well, we are entering the halfway point of Lent. How’s your
Lenten discipline going? Did you take on the Instagram Len-
ten Picture Challenge? What about the countdown chains
we made at LIFT? Maybe you gave up soda or meat or took
up a daily devo'on? Remember, that no ma)er what your discipline is, the
important thing is that it helps you direct your a)en'on to God. Lent is a
'me of turning back to God and preparing for Easter. You may slip up and forget to post a picture one day, or acci-
dentally order a Coke at lunch, but don’t give up. Those 'mes that you spend thinking about your discipline, turn them
into 'mes of prayer and reflec'on. Lent can be one of the most meaningful 'mes of the year, don’t let this opportuni-
ty slip by you.
Wednesdays in March
During Lent, March 7th
, 14th
, and 21st
- dinner will be at 6:00 and youth will be from 6:30-7:00. At 7:00 we will head to
the mid-week Lenten worship service together. Pick up is s'll at 7:30.
There will be no Wednesday acvies the week of Holy Week.

youth of all ages, including 'me for parents to gather and share with one another. LIFT
hopes to both create and sustain community among the families who join us, whether
members of Redeemer, visitors, or friends. All are welcome! You make a difference when
you’re there!
Don’t keep the gi of your presence from others!

deemer and Redeemer will send in a payment for the full cost of the retreat ($95). You must register online (h)p://
