Greetings from the Parsonage Family,

As I write this article I have just received notice that a dear friend and colleague of mine in Minis-try has passed away. I was trying to make the article jazzy and interesting so that everyone would read to the end but jazzy seems unimportant to me right now. Along with the events of the past few months and now with the passing of my dear colleague I am reminded of the fragili-ty of life, possessions, professions, and the rest of this veil we call life.

My friend dedicated their life to being in ministry to others. To stand with those who were hurting. To help others understand the amazing Grace and Love of God through all of life’s trials, tribulations, and celebrations. I do not believe they were jazzy, at least not when I was around them but they were committed to the Mission of Kingdom building in the name of Jesus. I pray my life would even vaguely resemble theirs. Thank you for letting me share.

October brings us so many opportunities to reach out to the community in the Name of Christ. We will have the “Seekers Class” two day rummage sale, “The United Methodist Men’s” BBQ Sale and Cook-off, our “Annual Harvest Moon Festival”, and importantly our “Heritage 101 Cele-bration”. We will have more guests in and around our Church than possible the rest of the year combined and this brings us the opportunity to let others see Jesus through us. So let’s pray our-selves up, clean ourselves up, pick the place up, put a smile on our face and a song in our heart a jump in our step and show the world what God is doing in this place. Details for all these oppor-tunities are included in the pages of this Newsletter so please read completely.

Please pay close attention to our financial information and expect some more detailed info to be included with your Quarterly Giving Statement. All the things I have just spoken of along with the everyday on-going Ministries and Missions of this Church depend on each and every one of us and the faithful commitment each of has made when we were received into the local Church and vowed “to faithfully participate in its ministries by our prayers, our presence,

our gifts, our service, and our witness.” p.38, The United Methodist Hymnal

May we all continue to heal, to grow, and to reveal the God that dwells within us by the love we have for one another. Kandace and I are excited for the future we have with you and the great things God has and will do with us all.

God’s Peace

Pastor Jamie & Kandace

We are looking for someone to take

over our Wednesday Meal ministry.

This ministry is a blessing to

several other ministries. It

allows many adults and youth to

participate in our Wednesday

evening activities without the

stress of having to figure out

what’s for dinner.

A menu can be provided along with

shopping lists as well as detailed

instructions. No expense will be

out of pocket. If you are

interested or have more questions,

please contact [email protected]

We are in need of at least one more

volunteer to help in children’s church

once a month. With out this help, we will

be forced to cut back one Sunday a

month beginning in October. Please

prayerfully consider being a part of this

amazing team and contact

Weekday School

After a week long delay due to Harvey and Arkema, we are off to a great start at

preschool this year. We have a full house with 66 students and 9 staff. Our Before School and After School care pro-

grams really grew this year—we usually have around 15 students in both programs! This year we have one 2 year old

class, two 3 year old classes, and three 4 year old classes. We currently have waiting lists for all age groups. I wish we

could take them all!

We have been very busy in our first two weeks!

We have used our creativity to build

great things!

We’ve played and made new

friends!

We’re learning and practicing new skills!

And at the end of the day, we are VERY, VERY tired!

Youth R.I.O.T.

Ephesians 3:17-18

Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will

grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to

understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how

deep His love is.

WAZ UP?!

What an eventful start to the school year. I pray that everyone is re-

covering nicely from Hurricane Harvey. I want to send out a HUGE thank you

to all of the youth and parents that helped us with supplies, deliveries, and

CUIC. It may seem like small work, but to many it was larger than life. Your

servant hearts humble me each and every time you answer the call. You are

such an inspiration to so many with your willingness to step up when work

needs to get done.

We have a few events coming up in the near future and one of the big-

gest is the Harvest Moon Festival. For this, we need your help. Most of the

money made from this fundraiser goes to help our group with camp scholarships,

supplies for events, and even the big stuff. We need your help to man the games

& inflatables. Please be sure and sign up for a shift to work so we will know how

many games we can have. This is an awesome opportunity for our community to

see Christ through you.

Holiday Hoopla is coming up in December. Be sure and sign up today

if you are planning to attend.

If you have a schedule for whatever sport, band, shows, or any others,

please send them to me ASAP! I can’t make them all, but would love to come

watch at least one.

Dr. Moore and his wife, Lee, were able to visit

Churches United in Caring - CUIC to go hand

over a check in the amount of $17,422.49. This

money was donated by OUR generous

community to assist those in need though a

GoFundMe account Dr. Moore set up following

Hurricane Harvey. We are thankful to have

CUIC as a great local organization and resource

in our community for anyone in need of

assistance. Cougar Nation is pretty incredible.

CUMC’s very own Kayson Marek and Carter Hudson

(not pictured) helped set up a lemonaide stand

after Hurricane Harvey and made over $500 for

families at Barrett Elementary School that were

affected. They bought 21 Walmart cards for $25

each. Cougar Nation is proud of YOU!

As we begin a new school year and are once again so thankful for all of our wonderful men-tors and prayer partners as well as Pat Walton, our Party Coordinator and Irene Sanders, our Prayer Coordinator, we would like to share a letter received from Mrs. Walthall, the principal at BES.

“Dear Kids Hope Family Members,

Once again, BES was blessed through your love, dedication, prayers, and support. Though the changes in your children here are often intangible, please know that we can see the differ-ence your love and friendship means in their lives. They look for you, they try to please you, they love you! I realize that giving your time and energy every single week is not an easy task, yet you have helped make a difference in the lives of many children. For that, I can only say from the bottom of my heart – thank you; Matthew 18:4-5.

Thank you for welcoming, loving, and supporting our Kids’ Hope children. You are truly God’s light here on earth!” Much love, Karen Walthall

It is never too late to become involved with this program, so just let us know if you would like any information.

Relief after Harvey

Hurricane Harvey hit Texas weeks ago. While much of life is back to ‘normal’ for some, many are still dealing with the painful process of damage control. Our church and many of our members were impacted personally as well. If you are able, please prayerfully consider giving a little extra this month to help with unbudgeted repairs and other expenses related disaster relief. For more information about how to aid in disaster relief post-Harvey, contact our finan-cial partner, Heartspring Methodist Foundation by calling 713-533-3780, 800-521-9617, or via [email protected].

Reformation Sunday

While the secular world celebrates Halloween on October 31, the church will celebrate Refor-mation Day, a day to remember as the rediscovery of the good news of salvation by grace through faith. Consider the celebration of this great religious movement a reminder to thank God for your many blessings. Remember to give back to Him regularly through your time, tal-ents and treasures. To discuss ways you can give back, talk with our financial partner, Heartspring Methodist Foundation by calling 713-533-3780, 800-521-9617, or via [email protected].
