On Monday 25th

February we held our Meet & Greet afternoon which was an opportunity for teachers and parents to meet one another and exchange information that may enhance the quality of a child’s educational experience at school. Thank you to the parents who attended, we hope you gained an insight in to how the school day is organised and enjoyed the opportunity to meet and speak with your child’s class teacher.

Wanted- reading parent helpers Infant classes are asking for any parents or carers who may have some spare time in the mornings to assist our young students with their reading. Providing extra opportunities for students to read, allows them to consolidate reading strategies. It also gives students a sense of belonging in the school environment while reading with family members. If you are able to provide an hour of your time any morning, please speak to the classroom teacher. Your time will be much appreciated!

Crookwell Public School – Defibrillator Crookwell Public School has installed a defibrillator that is located on the wall opposite the office, in the main Administration building foyer. The cabinet is fitted with an alarm which sounds when the door is opened. The defibrillator is checked regularly to ensure that electrodes are not tampered with and the defibrillator is ready for use. The defibrillator can be used on children and adults.

Binda Races P&C Fundraiser – Sat. 16th March Core Rules Student Discipline in NSW Government Schools

All students in NSW government schools are expected to:

Attend every school day, unless they are legally excused, and be in class on time prepared to learn.

Maintain a neat appearance, including adhering to the requirements of the school’s uniform or dress code policy.

Behave safely, considerately and responsibly, including when travelling to and from school.

Show respect at all times for teachers, other school staff and helpers, including following class rules, speaking courteously and cooperating with instructions and learning activities.

Treat one another with dignity and respect.

Care for property belonging to themselves, the school and others.

Behaviour that infringes on the safety of others, such as

harassment, bullying and illegal or anti-social behaviour

of any kind, will not be tolerated.

Make Each Morning Count Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is well known that children who eat breakfast everyday are more receptive to learning.

Swim Scheme Years 2 and 3 have concluded their two week intensive swim safety lessons this week. Students participated in lessons to learn to swim and improve their water safety awareness. Students engage in discussions on various water environments and how to remain safe in each condition. They also refined their swimming skills, learning important skills such as floating, survival backstroke, swimming with life jackets and rehearsing safety rescues with their peers. All students and teachers have been thrilled with the warm, sunny weather that we have been blessed with for the last two weeks.

Lily Hattam uses a pool noodle to refine her freestyle stroke.

Students in Year 3 test their ability of swimming 50m

freestyle non-stop.

Students at all levels of ability participate in swim scheme

lessons to increase their water confidence.

Envelopes for sibling photographs can be obtained from the office. Sibling photograph envelopes are not to be placed inside the The School Photographer pack envelope but returned separately to the office, again prior to Wednesday 6

From Year 6 to Year 7 REMINDER Information for students Moving into Year 7 in a NSW Government School in 2020 was attached to the News and Views last week. Completed forms need to be returned to the Administration Office of Crookwell Public School on or before Friday 15

th March, 2019.

Please Make an Appointment The strong, positive relationship that exists between the staff of Crookwell Public School and our school’s families is appreciated and valued. The opportunity for parents and teachers to openly and honestly discuss aspects of a child’s education is welcomed and of vital importance.

However, as teachers are extremely busy of a morning preparing for the day ahead and often have commitments after school, I urge parents to phone the school on 48321213 to make an appointment to meet with a teacher. This will ensure teachers can fully focus on the issue/concern raised by the parent and allow teachers to address commitments and preparations uninterrupted.

Your cooperation with this request is greatly appreciated. Spotted cont. Daniel Caves & Ned Cramp for making sensible choices

in the playground.

Year 2 for their amazing improvement during swim scheme over the last two weeks.

Mia McDonald for her honesty.

Lennon Osborne for his wonderful effort in reading.

Ivy Bailey for writing amazing stories.

Tommy Dunn for skilful sentence construction using magnetic letters.

2019 VOLUNTARY SCHOOL CONTRIBUTION

What is A Voluntary School Contribution?

The vast majority of public schools request a contribution from parents each year to supplement existing funding. These contributions allow schools to provide additional resources and learning programs for students.

What Will The Money Be Used For?

The money will be used to purchase resources to support teaching/learning programs for each student across the school.

How Much? The suggested contribution is $49 per child. Please note

that this roughly equates to $1 per child per week. I cannot stress enough the difference to our school finances that your contribution will make. The contribution fees are within the guidelines as set out by the Department of Education.

How To Pay

Please place your contribution, with the slip below, in an envelope and return it to the school office as soon as you are able. If you prefer, you may choose to pay a contribution in instalments. A receipt will be issued for all monies received.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school.

No Hat …… Play In The Shade Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world with 140,000 new cases and 1,000 deaths recorded annually. The increasing occurrence of skin cancer in Australia is a matter of concern with skin cancers accounting for 80% of all new cancers diagnosed each year. The A.C.T. and surrounding region has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in Australia. The major cause of skin cancer is exposure to ultraviolet radiation over many years, particularly during childhood and adolescence. Even if exposure does not cause obvious sunburn, damage still occurs and accumulates over the years.

To help protect students from over exposure to the sun during Term 1, the school’s policy of ‘No Hat…Play in the Shade,’ will be strictly enforced.

Please encourage your child to wear their school hat at school to help keep them sun safe.

N.B. Adjustable microfibre school hats are available from the uniform shop at a cost of $15.00.

To Keep Track of Your Child’s Belongings You can: use a permanent laundry marker to label clothes, hats

and shoes, or sew or iron on personalised labels

go through your child’s bag with them each night

check that labels haven’t faded with washing

enquire at the office when something is misplaced and they will direct you to the school’s lost property area.

Michael Whittington Principal

Kirstie O’Neill Assistant Principal
