01 JULY 2019
Yellow class have had a fantastic second term, with a variety of activities to keep us busy. In Science we have been learning about our solar system, naming the planets and learning about the importance of the sun and stars. We are very excited to finish off the topic by visiting the Sydney Observatory this week with all the senior classes.
We have also been working hard in the Canteen program, which involves students participating in the weekly shopping, as well as learning about the importance of hygiene and food preparation. It is a great opportunity for the school and staff to purchase sandwiches each Wednesday for lunch.
We have been working very responsibly around the school, making sure every week the school jobs have been completed, including making deliveries to the classrooms of weekly supplies, collecting and doing the laundry and shredding documents.
We have been enjoying increasing our fitness with weekly exercise activities that include a 15 minute program each morning of stretching and light exercise. We also enjoy our Yoga lessons and Line Dancing throughout the week.
On Fridays a mixture of students from Green, Yellow and Red class travel together on a train and bus to and from Chatswood to play tennis and table tennis. This activity is part of our Community Access program that provides the students an opportunity to practice a variety of important skills required whilst out in public. It is a great chance for our students to put into practice skills they have learnt during the So Safe lessons at school. We are all learning to be independent with our wallet and Opal cards and how to appropriately behave whilst out in the community.

Welcome to week ten
This is the final week of this term
and semester. It is so hard to
believe we are halfway through
the school year.
Today the secondary students will
be traveling by train or bus to the
Sydney Observatory. It is the
culmination of their term two topic
of “The Earth in Space” as well as
Aboriginal Studies, as these two
topics will be combined on our
tour. The students shared their
assignments last Wednesday with
all secondary classes. These will
continue to be on display at the
school at the beginning of Term
3. If you happen to be around
come and have a look at the extra
work the students have enjoyed
doing with their families at home.
Yellow class is featured in this
week’s newsletter. This
secondary class are involved in
many school programs like
canteen and school service jobs,
and have been working hard on
our important school PBEL
expectations.
The performance by the
Narrabeen Sports High School
last Wednesday was great and
enjoyed by all students as they
interacted with the music.
Following the performance on
Wednesday we were surprised to
be presented with a cheque for
$500 from the Commonwealth
Bank at Lindfield. We are very
grateful that community
businesses such as this
recognise and want to be in
partnership with us.
We also owe a big thank you to
the John Holland Mac Park
Foundation for presenting us with
a cheque for $2,500 during a
fundraising golf day on Friday.
Thanks to Lani and Nat for
attending the presentation. This
and the Commonwealth Bank
donation will both go towards
getting new school buses.
This Wednesday we will be
watching a band performance by
Lindfield Public School. We are
very fortunate to have other
schools share their talents with
us.
Speaking of our connections with
other schools: Newington Prep
School collected and donated lots
of the Woolworths Earn & Learn
stickers to us. The Earn & Learn
collection period has now finished
but if you happen to have any you
haven’t sent in, you can still do so
as we are still counting them up.
Thank you to the four boys from
St Ignatius who helped in the
senior classes last week. This
week we have 5 boys from St
Aloysius coming to help with the
excursion tomorrow to the
Observatory and then four will
stay around to help the rest of the
week. It is nice of them to give up
their first week of their break to
come to help us.
School photographs will be taken
in week two of next term. The
envelopes for orders were sent
home last week. If you didn’t
receive your order form please
contact the office or see the form
in the notes section of this
newsletter. Some reports also
were sent out on Friday and I am
sure you are very proud of your
child for their accomplishments.
The remainder of the reports will
be sent home today.
We will be welcoming Christine
back from her leave and I will be
very happy to hand the reins back
to her on Thursday. I am grateful
for the support of our wonderful
staff team while I have been
relieving principal during
Christine’s absence. A special
thank you to Lani, Mel and Nicole
for helping with all executive
things and also to Kylie Barter for
taking Pink class and continuing
and enriching the class programs
and keeping me informed. Also, a
huge thank you to our amazing
office staff Nat and Nimali.
We wish everyone a safe and
relaxing break and look forward to
seeing students return on
Tuesday 23 July.

Woolworths Earn & Learn
The Woolworths Earn & Learn promotion has now finished and we are in the process of counting our stickers.
If you have any stickers you’ve been meaning to send to school, now is your last chance. They must be received by the school office by Wednesday, 3 July 2019.
A big thank you to Newington Prep School for collecting and giving us their school’s stickers—much appreciated!
Thank you! Last Friday, the John Holland Group’s Mac Park Foundation held a golf day to continue to raise money for the community initiatives they support. Our school is lucky enough to be one of the recipients of the Foundation’s support and at the golf day they presented Lani with a cheque for $2,500 (on top of the $7,500 they have already generously given to us).
This donation will be added to our fundraising efforts for new school buses. Thanks very much Mac Park Foundation for your continued support!!
Thank you too!
At last Wednesday’s assembly, following the performance by Narrabeen Sports High School, staff from the Commonwealth Bank Lindfield Branch visited our school to present Janice with a cheque for $500.
It is wonderful to receive support from our local community businesses. Thank you Commonwealth Bank Lindfield for your support. We will add the donation to our new bus fund.

Even more thanks!
What a week!
HUGE thank you also to Nevaeh’s family for raising the money we need to be able to replace the school’s very outdated pool hoist which is no longer in use.
Thanks to Franky’s Café Milperra, Sydney Direct Fresh Produce, the Icon Construction Group and to Michael Spiteri for their donations.
We will be sure to include photos of the new hoist once it has been fitted.
And more!
We were lucky enough to receive four large shredders from King & Wood Mallesons last week. The shredders will be very useful in the office and in our secondary classes where shredding is one of the school service jobs our senior students complete each week. Thank you!!
