Each year the BA421, Inc., organizes a huge concert called the “Music Fest.” Some 150,000 music lovers and fans attend the Music Fest. Planning for the concert begins many months before the actual concert date. This year the concert will take place on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, September 4th, 2010. Planning for the concert begins on January 29th, 2010. As a recent operations management graduate, you have been hired to help schedule this year’s concert. BA421 follows a normal workweek and observes all traditional holidays. Specifically these holidays include, Good Friday (April 2nd), Memorial Day (May 31th), July 4th, and Labor Day (September 6th). All planning activities must be complete by September 4 th 2010.

The Critical Path consists of: 1-Finalize sites and facility contracts,2- select concert promoter,22-develop site plan,27-determine requirements for power for facilities,30- install power/plumbing/AC/toilet services,31-construct stage,32-test sound/lighting,33-ready for concert

Taking into account the items only on the critical path that can be shortened; Item 22 “develop site plan” can be reduced from 31 to 28 days, item 27 can be reduced from 30 days to 26 days, and item 32 “test sound lighting” can be reduced from 2 days to 2 day. Shortening those three items reduces the projected end date from 9/13/2010 to 9/3/2010, just in time for the concert date of 9/4/2010.

After:

The total cost of the initial project was $247,850.00. After project crashing in order to meet the deadline, the total was $250,350.00, an increase of $2,500.00 to complete the project on time.
