Huge thanks to everybody who came out to support Emily’s concert at CLC. The production team and workers are listed on page 8. She is an

extraordinarily gifted singer/songwriter and masterful guitarist. The time will soon come when we’ll tell our friends we saw her here first! She will

stay in touch, and we’ll keep you posted on her career’s progress!

welcome.” —The Science of Mind text

Sunday meditations are led by practitioner Malené Njeri, lasting for 35 minutes, and ending in time to comfortably get into the 11:00 cele‐bration. There is music

to enhance as you are guided into a restful state, and inspirational read‐ings to tap into your spiritual cen‐ter. Most sessions will end with a spiritual mind treatment based on the readings’ themes. SUNDAYS 10:15‐10:50AM, in the Hopkins Room, on the second floor of the Learning Center. Those who have completed any of the Science of Mind courses offered at CLC since summer, 2013, will take the

stage to sing the “school song” and engage in other antics, on SUNDAY, JUNE 8 at the 11:00AM celebration!

Award‐winning singer/songwriter and multi‐instrumentalist Hans York is an

extraordinary guitarist and strong, engaging performer with a distinctive style and an irrepressibly delightful and approachable manner. Hans spent six months in Rio de Janeiro where he studied samba, bossa nova and popular Brazilian music, inspiring his first solo album Hazzazar. His 2008 album Young Amelia is a low‐key gem showcasing his acoustic guitar playing, appealing tenor and strong song‐writing skills. He accompanied Robert Palmer on German TV, toured as bassist with the New York Broadway Ensem‐

ble, played throughout Europe with master harp player Rüdiger Opper‐mann, performed a concerto as soloist on fretless bass with the Ars Quittilinga Chamber Orchestra (concerto written by contemporary Ger‐man composer Thomas König), and co‐founded the German Worldmusic cult band Moka Efti, recording three CDs with them. Hans blends jazz, folk and classical European styles into a sound both familiar and unique. Hans pays his sixth visit to CLC at both services on SUNDAY, APRIL 13.

Arthur Johnson, MBA, is a well‐known CLCer who in our classes has shared some of his story of finding New Thought and our Center. In his first two Sunday talks here, he “brought down the house” — and CDs of them are still being sold to this day. Rev. Arthur is Community Spiritual Leader of Transformation Fellowship, and has been minis‐tering to the spiritual development needs of individuals for over 25 years, 15 of these as an ordained Baptist minister,

and five years as Executive Pastor of The Word Church in Houston. Arthur is President and CEO of The Vision Inspired Performance Group; speaker and consultant; and author of Ignite the Fire Within. He’ll speak on The Master Key to Prosperity, SUNDAY, MAY 18, 11AM (one service only).

Beginning on March 25, the April 2014 issue of “Science of Mind” magazine will be available in more than 600 Barnes & Noble bookstores in the U. S. and Canada.

The magazines will be part of an end‐cap display under the banner of “Spirituality.” This is a three‐month promotion after which time each store manager will individually decide whether to continue to carry the magazine. We’re extremely excited at the possibilities and we need your support. Please encourage your friends and family to go to any Barnes & Noble and ask for “Science of Mind” magazine by name. We would love it if they would purchase one or more copies, but the key is that people ask the store managers and employees for the magazine.

This is not a circle of professional percussionists

or a making of a YouTube performance. This is a heart‐family of women opening to new relationships thriving with encouragement of each other, knowledge of our drums and surprises bursting from ourselves. It is not a drumming skill that we learn in this circle, it is a bringing out of the inner feminine spirit with a powerful expression of the authentic self…together. She was also part of the first all‐female crew for a scheduled U.S. carrier.

She has been honored with her uniform being placed in the Smithsonian Institution, being named as “Woman of the Year” in England (1984), and being featured in a BBC documentary, “Reaching for the Skies.” Lynn then went on to fly as Captain for Continental Airlines, later United Air‐lines, where she trained on the B‐787 Dreamliner before her retirement in 2013. The CLC Children’s and Youth Services Department is devoted to celebrating the spiritual develop‐ment of each child we teach. All age groups are involved in various activities, workshops, and special projects incorporating the teach‐ings of Science of Mind. We strive to create an atmosphere of love and kindness in our words and actions toward each other and to recognize and honor the diversity of every person. • • • Toddlers (up to age 3) are lovingly cared for by our toddler teachers. In their very artistically designed Discovery Room, the children are encouraged to interact and experience their world as only a toddler can. They are offered games, toys, books and other age‐appropriate activities in a safe, secure and loving environment. ••• 3‐6 age group. Beginning around the age of 3, our toddlers are moved to the Ingenuity Room. This group begins to learn the basics of Treatment and the value of giving a smile and a kind word. Our creative teachers provide age‐appropriate instruction and activities. ••• 7‐11 age group are in the Quimby Room, regularly practicing the steps of Treatment presented in a manner appropriate to their age group. The teachers provide learn‐ing tools, creative projects, work‐shops and other teaching methods to engage each child’s learning of the principles of Science of Mind. ••• 12‐and‐up age group meet on the second floor of the Learning Center in the Hopkins classroom. They are engaged in special projects, work‐shops, have guest speakers and are involved in several volunteer ser‐vice endeavors at CLC. The teachers working with this group encourage their talents, keep them engaged in learning Science of Mind principles and we throw in a bit of fun along the way!

Minister Debra Morwood, CLC’s Youth Director, reminds everyone that when your children are re‐turned to the Great Hall on Sunday, please note it is the

policy of the Center that each child, no matter the age, must be super‐vised by their adult caregiver. The children are not allowed to be outside their classrooms unless accompanied. We are devoted to providing a safe environment for our happy children! Children begin their Sunday learning adventures in the redesigned registration area in the youth foyer, then move to their classrooms, except on one SUNDAY each month, when those through age 11 visit the Great Hall first to share their thoughts with the grownup congregation. If you have any questions or concerns about our classes, Debra is in the youth lobby from 10:15‐11AM on SUNDAYS, or connect at (281) 651‐9295 or

Why the sneaker? Rodney Dickerson, President and CEO of the Montgomery County Food Bank was our guest on Volunteer Day. He told how when he and his siblings were being raised by a single mother, there often wasn’t enough to eat. Also, only one pair of shoes a year could be afforded for each child. One year, Rodney went from a size 10 to a 12, and had to cut the ends off his sneakers, covering the openings with Band‐Aids.

To lessen him embarrassment, Rodney’s best friend put some on his shoes too, and pretty soon the whole class did the same, until the school nurse said they were running out of Band‐Aids! Our commitment to the Montgomery County Food Bank’s Buddy Backpack program is to feed 15 young students every weekend through‐out the school year. These kids are selected by their schools as having this need, and every Friday they go home with a backpack discreetly filled with specially selected food to last them the weekend. They return the empty backpack to school on Monday, and the process repeats itself. There are several ways you can help: by donating cash or WalMart cards (only ‐‐ no checks, please, or generic gift cards); by working to assemble the food we purchase for delivery to the Food Bank (FRIDAYS, APRIL 18 and MAY 9, at 1PM); and by assisting on the delivery team to the Food Bank (MONDAYS, APRIL 21 and MAY 12, at 10:15AM). Please be clear, we do not need you to bring food items, which must be purchased according to a very specific protocol, and we have a team in place to do that. But your donations of cash or WalMart cards are most appreciated. Our program co‐coordinators are Carol Stromatt and Alline Dawson. We also now have an opening for packing team leader. He has become so isolated that love neither flows from nor to him... If he is rightly guided, either through his own intuition or by someone else, he will begin to travel backward within himself to see where the trouble lies (for trouble always lies, it never tells the truth). Through faith or understanding he determines to retrace his mental steps, to go back in imagination to the place where he is one with all.” —ERNEST HOLMES, from How to Use the Science of Mind

So practitioners pray for people? So practitioners pray for people? So practitioners pray for people? Practitioners treat themselves to know that the good their clients desire is ever‐available and moved into form through treatment. The type of prayer we teach is also called “scientific prayer,” as it proposes the universality of God, and therefore no separation between a person and God. We don’t pray to move God into action, but to bring our thinking and feeling nature into alignment with the idea that infinite good surrounds us, in the form of love, harmony, peace, wellness, abundance, and whatever else we can imagine. Much of this aligning comes from a person deciding what he or she really prefers to have happen in terms of life experience. In this, the practitioner assists through stimulating conversation and possibility thinking. Once a clear sight is set on a goal, treatment is then done.

(excerpted from the brochure, You and Your Practitioner)

Our Creative Life practitioners are outstanding spiritual support persons, available to lovingly and confidentially assist you, and are at your service. Each has spent hun‐dreds of hours in training, to direct natural compassion into helping you through listening, caring, and using spiritual mind treatment — affirmative prayer — to reveal the truth of you that is greater than any apparent limitation. Each is licensed by the Centers for Spiritual Living, and engages in ongoing study and spiritual development. Have a new goal, an old problem, or a question about applying our teaching? Work with a practitioner and watch what happens with conscious use of the Law of Mind!
