Since 1998 Ken has produced and hosted the songwriter’s series at Anderson Fair, and was featured in a documentary about that legendary folk venue.
Annually he performs at the Kerrville Folk Festival, and his awards include Singer/Songwriter of the Year by the Academy of Texas Music in 2005, and Song of the Year from the Texas Music Awards in 2007 for song “Einstein's Violin.” His CDs are Catfish Moon and Real Men. GRIEF RECOVERY SUPPORT GROUP
When someone you love dies or is seriously ill and the pangs of grief from the loss or pending loss flow over you, you may believe you are "going crazy." Grief is hard work and
there are many ways to support those who are grieving. One way is to offer support in the form of group sharing. If you believe you may benefit from this type of support, please come join practitioner Ruth Catalogna and minister Debra Morwood for a closed group meeting 2nd and 4th of the month for eight weeks from 6:00-7:30 in the Learning Center, beginning , 12. We will be using two books by renowned grief expert Alan D. Wolfelt, PhD, entitled Understanding Your Grief: Ten Essential Touchstones for Finding Hope and Healing Your Heart and The Understanding Your Grief Journal, both available in the CLC bookstore. Ruth is a retired nurse and social worker, who has spent the last 12 years with hospice patients at bedside. Rev. Debra is a Board Certified Clinical Chaplain and Pastoral Counselor currently working part time for Bristol Hospice as a Bereavement Chaplain. For almost 20 years, she has been involved with spiritual care for hospice patients and their families.

BLESSING BOWL ART WORKSHOP
Here’s a date to set aside for your dive into the spiritual practice of expressing your creativity. No, this is not about your
artistic excellence, although you can bring that as well. In addition to having a fun, laughterful, elegant learning and sharing time, you will walk away with a brand-new product straight from your hands and heart. Artist Maggie Leysath will be bringing clay for us to smooth and pinch into little tiny blessing bowls. Using the freedom to play and hold and mold we will create our very own vessel as a container for an oil to use as we bring a blessing to others. Join us in this gathering of engaging our feeling selves as we breathe life and form into a result that will amaze and surprise. Maggie will have us choose a spe-cial glaze for our bowl, fire them and bring them back to us at CLC. Cost is $35 for materials (no cost to teens). INTERFAITH SERVICE Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Unitarians, Baha’is, Buddhists, Humanists and those in New Thought come
together in a community event each year in The Woodlands, to learn about one another and to give thanks for religious freedom in the United States. This will be the 20th annual Giving Thanks Observance planned and presented by the local Woodlands organization named FaithsTogether. FaithsTogether is a fellowship of faith communities honoring spiritual diversity by building relationships and understanding among people of differ-ent paths. It was formed in 1998 and presented its first interfaith observance in The Woodlands in November of 1999. Volunteers from many faith communities in The Woodlands work together to plan and present at each observance, the location of which rotates each year. The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church, 4881 W. Panther Creek Dr., is this year’s host of the event, on , 13, starting at 7:00 . Past observances have had 300 to 400 attendees. “Embracing All – Past, Present and Future” is this year’s theme. There will be a continuation of some of the past traditions, among them opening the observance with calls to prayer such as the welcome by the host clergy, the Islamic Azan, the Jewish shofar and the Hindu conch. There will be a bell choir as well as a skit enacting the theme, and an interfaith choir. Hopes for the future will be presented. Members of FaithsTogether know that as Woodlands citizens learn about the traditions and beliefs of various faiths, opportunities naturally arise to build friendships that strengthen our Wood-lands community. A reception following the observance gives attendees a chance to mingle and sample some delicious food. The free event is open to the public. No RSVP is required. what we do
The CLC Children’s and Youth Services Department is devoted to celebrating the spiritual develop-ment of each child we teach. All age groups are involved in various activi-ties, workshops, and special projects incorporating the teachings of Sci-ence of Mind. We strive to create an atmosphere of love and kindness in our words and actions toward each other and to recognize and honor the diversity of every person.
• Toddlers (18 mos. to age 3) are lovingly cared for by our toddler teachers. In their very artistically designed Discovery Room, the children are encouraged to interact and experience their world as only a toddler can. They are offered games, toys, books and other age-appro-priate activities in a safe, secure and loving environment.
• 4-6 age group. Beginning around the age of 4, our toddlers are moved to the Ingenuity Room. This group begins to learn the basics of treatment and the value of giving a smile and a kind word. Our creative teachers provide age-appropriate instruction and activities.
• 7-12 age group are in the Quimby Room, regularly practicing the steps of Treatment presented in a manner appropriate to their age group. The teachers provide learning tools, creative projects, workshops and other teaching methods to en-gage each child’s learning of the principles of Science of Mind.
• 13-17 age group meets on the second floor of the Learning Center in the Hopkins classroom. They are engaged in special projects, work-shops, have guest speakers and are involved in several volunteer service endeavors at CLC. The teachers work-ing with this group encourage their talents, keep them engaged in learn-ing Science of Mind principles and we throw in some fun along the way!
SUNDAY CIRCLES Children begin their learning adventures in the registration area in the youth foyer, 10:15-11 on , then move to their classes, to be reunited with their
parents in the Great Hall in time for the closing song. Some Sundays we offer special theme workshops for the kids, too. Age-appropriate prayer/treatment opens all the classes, and for each class there is age-appropriate discussion of the monthly theme and creative projects to enhance the learning. Just after noon all the teachers and children gather in the reception area of the Learning Center for our closing prayer circle. Then the teachers bring the children to you in the Great Hall. Please remember that no youth are to roam the Center grounds unattended. Our coordinating Sunday minister is Marsha Lehman at [email protected], assisted by practitioners Linda Clesson and Marissa Mijal. Our youth minister and chaplain is Debra Morwood at [email protected].

We teach our children that God is Life — the Life within each of them and in all Creation — that all people are children of the One God, and therefore, are all brothers and sisters. • We teach that God is all-inclusive and we are each created in the image of God — Good. • We teach that God is Love, and we honor God-in-all through love, not fear. • We teach that sin is simply a mistake and when we make mistakes, we are punished by them, not by God. • We teach that God is Spirit and present everywhere, that this Spirit is within us and speaks to us through our minds when we are willing to listen. • We teach that there are spiritual laws that must be understood and followed, just as we follow human laws. • We teach that religion is something to be used every day, not just on Sundays. • We teach that Reli-gious Science is a religion that can be used at home, at school and at play; that since God is within us, heaven is also within us, that is we learn to live our lives in harmony with God’s Law, we live in heaven now. • We teach that keeping the mind focused on good causes a richer experience of life. •We teach that God is truth and beauty, peace and harmony; that as we grow to be more like God, our lives will be filled with health, happiness and success. • We teach that nothing is too wonderful to happen, nothing is too good to be true: everything is possible to God through me and you! —adapted from a work by Dorothy Quigley

Our work with the Montgomery County Food Bank is evolving! Buddy Backpack is now federally funded, enabling the MCFB to buy ample food for the program, at far cheaper prices than we could, and assemble it for delivery using on-site volunteers. However, the first of several meetings between MCFB leadership and our own revealed some new and exciting ways we will be able to help, especially with a nearby underserved and long-struggling community. Watch for details. At this time we have temporarily suspended accepting funds for a food initiative, and funds on hand are being held in trust until the new program is launched.
