The Journey to Healing and LoveThe Journey to Healing and LoveThe Journey to Healing and Love Getting beyond abuse

Experience the healing power of transitioning childhood abuse unto joyful, meaningful and resilient life. Rick Huttner experienced physical and sexual abuse as an infant and an adolescent. Over many years the effects of the abuse manifested in many different and damaging ways, resulting in failed relationships, accidents, financial losses and living constantly a life of fear and anger. Then, in his words, “A profound realization came to me that I am not alone and have never been alone, that a divine

Presence has always been with me... that I was not alone in abuse, that abuse is prevalent everywhere, and that maybe I could do something about me and help others.” In his Journey to Healing and Love presentation, Rick shares his long and sometimes painful journey. Beyond just surviving the abuse, Rick’s healing path allowed him to regain self‐love and led him to the knowledge that he was, and always be, a Resilient Being. Rick speaks WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15 at 7:30PM in the Great Hall. especially for those new to CLC, and a prerequisite for anyone wishing to become a member who has not yet completed Heartfelt Living. Dainill Mercadel and Doris Penny have created — with your help — a first‐Sunday‐of‐the‐month brunch and social experience. The next is SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5, after the 11AM service. Doris says... “The theme for February’s Booster Buffet is ‐‐ the Heart. What else?! Let’s share foods that are heart‐ Healthy and flavorful. Healthy eating does not equal rabbit food, nor does it mean the taste and texture

of styrofoam. But if that has you stumped, well, just bring something that is pink or red to stay in the Heart theme!” To volunteer, or with questions...

dedication ceremony

The new Malené Njeri Meditation Space is nearly ready, thanks to everyone who’s worked on the reno‐vations (please see page 5). On SUNDAY, MARCH 5, following our usual

monthly brunch, we will hold a brief ceremony dedicating that space to Malené’s memory, and its future use as a tranquil and healing center within the Center. If you’re new with us, Malené Njeri was a longtime practitioner and past board presi‐dent, and beloved by all. The medita‐tion space is located on the second floor of the Learning Center, next to Rev. Marsha’s office. The ceremony will start at approximately 1:30PM, when we’ll be joined by Malene’s family and many of her friends.

Our next drive happens on SUNDAY, MARCH 26, accompanied by a potluck brunch. It’s dedicated to the memory of Center member Sophie Hamrick (1934‐2010), who benefitted greatly from blood donations during her final illness. At giveblood.orggiveblood.orggiveblood.org you can register as a Commit for Life donor and schedule your donation time, then log in early on the morning of the drive and answer the donor questions. For 20 years CLCers have been regularly serving the commu‐nity in this way. We seek volunteers to set up and clean up after the meal, place signs, etc.; the team leader is Doris Penny. Sign up in Builders’ Hall to donate or bring food. Info:

Join us to thank our Center’s volunteers for 2015‐16, as well as share information on the volunteer oppor‐tunities that exist

Buddy Backpack

“Megan” is a 10‐year old fifth‐grader who recently lost her father after his long illness caused by several massive strokes. Megan’s parents are much older than most of the other parents in Megan’s class. Megan’s mom works nights at Wal‐Mart, but this is not enough to make ends meet as she has a mortgage, and doctor and funeral bills. The fam‐ily does not qualify for SNAP at this time; but were told to reapply in three months. With the help of the school staff, Megan was selected to be part of the Buddy Backpack program. Her mom was so relieved as this helps them tremendously. With plenty to eat on the weekends, Megan is now able to spend some time on fun outings with a mentor from the community. She has been able to open up about recently losing her dad. Her teachers report that Megan is doing well and is back to telling the class silly knock‐knock jokes. Her teachers are so happy to see Megan smile and participate in class discussion again. You can easily help feed children like Megan over school year week‐ends, by contributing to the Buddy Backpack fund — see the next page.

The 2016‐17 school year is half over, and with it our fourth year of participation, now serving 20 children per weekend, at an estimated total cost of $6,000, or $400 per delivery, or $300 per child served. Know that so far in the program’s history, you have fed over 720 children and their families 5,320 meals. Remember we count on your financial support, while the team members shop, prepare, pack and deliver the goods. You can help by donating cash or Kroger cards or generic gift cards (only — no checks, please, or other store‐specific cards). Creative Life was the pilot partner community with the Montgomery County Food Bank on this project, and since then at least five other churches have joined in. With general questions, and also to volunteer on‐site at the new MCFB facility, e‐mail BBP team leader Carol Stromatt, [email protected]@[email protected]. Packing team

leader has recently assembled some personal stories typical of the children and youth we serve, for a batter picture of the importance of this work. The first of these is on page 5.

Our Creative Life practitioners are outstanding spiritual support persons, available to lovingly and confidentially assist you, and are at your service. Each has spent hundreds of hours in training, to direct natural compassion into helping you through listening, caring, and using spiritual mind treatment — affirmative prayer — to reveal the truth of you that is greater than any apparent limitation. Each is licensed by the Centers for Spiritual Living, and engages in ongoing study and spiritual development. Have a new goal, an old problem, or a question about applying our teaching? Work with a practitioner and watch what happens with conscious use of the Law of Mind!
