Dear Parents and Carers,

We would again like to thank our families for their ongoing support during remote learning. We have been adjusting the learning as the weeks have progressed based on student, parent and staff feed-back. We feel we have overcome most challenges and things seem to be progressing well, and our children are showing great strength of character, resilience and growth.

We want to take a moment to really acknowledge our children.

These little heroes have stayed indoors more than they’ve ever known their whole lives. Their whole worlds have literally been turned upside down with rules they’ve never known. A life they couldn’t have imagined. All the things they love like sports, being with friends, going to school, or just being kids have all been put on hold for the moment. Their minds must be racing, as they try and under-stand what is occurring in the world. Every day they get up and carry on despite all that’s going on. So here’s to our little heroes: today, tomorrow, forever!

A Message from the Schools of Wyndham

All schools in Wyndham are working together to provide the community with remote learning options for their students. We appreciate you keeping your children at home and keeping us all safe.

It is important to understand that the remote learning options will look different in all of our schools. This is for a variety of reasons and include the diverse platforms schools use and students are already familiar with, the learning the schools and particular subjects are trying to provide and the clientele of the school.

Rest assured that we are all working together to provide the best we can. We will consistently make adjustments and changes as we learn more about the processes put in place and what is working well within the community.

We wanted to assure parents that the students of Wyndham are being cared for and are learning.

Hello to all of our Wonderful Prep Families and Carers,

As we are now in Week 4 of Term 2, our students are well into their way of undertaking and completing the

learning content using the online platforms; Google Classroom and Webex – and what a start to the term it has

been!

Through utilising these platforms, we have been able to remotely deliver our learning content online and have

1:1 conferences with the students. Each class is still taking the roll for daily attendance; please don’t forget to

mark present every day as the roll will be marked and submitted at 4:30pm each learning day (including special-

ist Fridays!). Last Friday marks the very first day we had taken place in a WebEx group conference with all of the

students in each class having the opportunity to jump on and see not just their teacher but their classmates as

well. We will use these conferences to celebrate nights of reading awards, birthdays, start show and tell and for

the students to be able to share and catch up with each other in regards to what they have been doing!

It is fantastic to be able to view images and videos of the work our students are completing at home on Google

Classroom. We do kindly remind you to please ensure that all work submitted is done independently by our

amazing students as this better informs our teaching, practice and conferences – we love to see the work our

students can do on their own! We have absolutely enjoyed being able to take place in weekly online WebEx con-

ferences with the students and it is fantastic to see the progress our students continue to make.

Nights of Reading

It is important that students continue with their home reading every day. Books can be accessed through utilising

the online platforms Epic Books and RAZ kids. Each student has their very own log in and these details can be

found in the letters sent home at the end of term one. Students may also log the stories being read each day on

Google Classroom. Students will continue to receive their awards for Nights of Reading.

100 Days of School

This Friday marks 48 days of school – our students are almost half way to our 100 Days of School Celebration!

Respectful Relationships

This week in Respectful Relationships students are learning to identify and practice positive self-talk so that this

strategy may be implemented when students feel they are in the blue zone. Students will be participating in and

learning the rhyme titled ‘I Think I Can!’ to bring themselves back into a positive and happy mindset.

Thank-you for all of your support during this time!

Hello Everyone,

To all our grade one students, well done! You are doing such a tremendous job! Keep up the wonderful work.

It has been fantastic to see our students accessing and completing their learning on google classroom. We

have been receiving amazing photos and videos through google classroom each day and keep them coming!

In reading, we have been summarising the information they learn from non-fiction texts. They are noting

down the topic, key words and important facts within the text. Students have been writing or recording won-

derful summaries that share with the audience what the non-fiction text is telling you about. A reminder to

continue to access RAZ Kids each day and spend time reading stories as well as listening to stories and com-

pleting quizzes.

In writing, we have been completing our MSL lessons, which focus on a particular MSL rule. Students have

also been focusing on ensuring they have upper case letters at the beginning of a sentence and full stops at

the end of a sentence. Students have also been writing sentences that include their heart words. We have

seen so many photos of 5 star writing!

In maths, we are learning about 2D/3D shapes and their features. As shapes are all around us, students have

been asked to find different shapes around their home!

Just a couple of reminders:

• If your lesson on google classroom asks to post a photo of your work, please make sure you do this,

that way we can provide feedback on your work.

• Access RAZ Kids each day to read or listen to texts.

• Mathletics and My Numeracy on Essential Assessment are fun and engaging activities that you can

complete which target the learning we are currently completing.

• Don’t forget to answer the attendance question each day that is posted on your class google classroom

page and don’t forget to watch the morning message!

Keep up the amazing work everyone!

Dear Grade 2 Families,

We are almost half way through the term and we are really getting used to our online learning. We are so

grateful to all of our families for being so supportive of this process.

We are really excited to see the students’ progress in their learning. In grade 2 we are seeing a lot of

growth particularly in reading and we want to thank you for encouraging your children to read so much at

home.

Please remember to continue writing in the yellow reading journals, as we will update our displays and

trackers when we do go back to school.

We love seeing all of the work being uploaded to the google classroom each day. Please continue doing

this as your child’s teacher needs to see the work they are doing at home.

In the second half of this term your child/children will be learning the following…

Maths: We are currently learning how to collect and represent data. We are doing this remotely by asking

our teddies questions and recording their answers using tally marks. Next week we move into representing

those tally marks in different graph types.

Writing: We have been looking at the sounds letters and combinations of letters make to write new words.

We have also been building our vocabulary to learn new words and to include those words in our writing.

On Wednesdays we have been focusing on using adjectives to make our writing more engaging for read-

ers. This means that students are required to describe what is happening in their writing with greater de-

tail.

Reading: Keep encouraging students in their reading. Please allow them time to use the strategies they

have learnt to solve new words. We learn lots of MSL rules to decode new words and often it takes some

time to allow students to think of all the strategies to try and solve a tricky word in their books. We really

are seeing great progress in reading so please continue reading each and every day.

We are so incredibly proud of our grade 2 children and how they are progressing. A highlight for our day is

posting our morning videos and seeing students respond by leaving comments and uploading videos. Here

are some pictures of our morning videos for you to enjoy.

Wow, we can’t believe it’s already week 4 of term 2!

Firstly, the Grade 3 Team would like to thank all of our children and families for your ongoing support dur-ing this challenging time. We truly understand that it has been a huge adjustment for everyone and we just want to express our thanks and gratitude. Without your support, we would not be able to continue doing what we do.

In reading, the children have been focusing on making predictions when reading fiction texts. They have been learning how to confirm, modify or reject their predictions by reflecting on their prediction and alter-ing it if necessary. As of next week, we are excited to begin our serial reading of the text Our Race to Rec-onciliation. This text will be the focal point of our reading lessons for the rest of term. It is a great book and we look forward to sharing it with our students!

In writing, the children have been continuing on with their vocabulary lesson once a week, followed by grammar, morphology and writing prompts. Feedback from our students is that they absolutely love the vocabulary lessons and are enjoying using their new vocabulary words in their writing.

In Numeracy, the students are finishing up their unit on Data Representation and Interpretation. We have seen some really great data collection methods and displays and we hope that the students have enjoyed creating their data displays. Next week in numeracy, we begin our unit on shape.

In History this week, the focus is on exploring the significance of Country and Place to Aboriginal Australi-ans and listening to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Elders, grandparents and older community mem-bers tell stories about local languages and the land they belong to. We hope students enjoy researching their local Indigenous language and translating some words to English!

For Respectful Relationships this week, students are continuing on with their unit on Stress Management. The children will be understanding the term ‘stress’, identifying things that cause stress for people and cre-ating a list of coping strategies.

Page 9: creating citizens for the future: compassionate, curious and …€¦ · creating citizens for the future: compassionate, curious and strong. Respect Responsibility Kindness Growth

Friendly Reminders:

• Data Representation and Interpretation Post-Test Your child will need to complete a post-assessment for Numeracy Data and Representation on Friday 8th May. This test will be completed on the Essential Assessment platform using your child’s log in details. Your child’s teacher will email you shortly with further information regarding the test.

• We kindly ask that parents do not help their children to complete tests as this results in inaccurate data and means that the lessons planned for your child as well as their My Numeracy tasks are not suitable for them.

There was no whole class live catch up on Friday 8th of May due to teachers’ Professional Practice Day. Live catch ups will resume the following Friday at 1pm.

Thank you,

PLC 3

A massive thankyou to all our Grade 4 families. It has been a week full of new learnings and it is amazing to see how all the students are able to transition well and settle in. It has been a massive learning curve for all of us (teachers) as well. Here is what all the Grade 4 teachers have been upto and some things they would like to say :

Miss Bennington: Being quite tech savvy, I have had to learn to really slow down when I am explain how to use the tech

Mr Heffernan: I have learnt lots about using ICT to communicate and schedule meetings with students and staff.

Mr Elorza: I have learnt how to use the technology and modify it to make it easier for my students and par-ents.

Mrs Sharma: – Technology has been a challenge for me. Challenges always help you grow. I have learnt and grown so much in the last few weeks. I feel proud of myself!

Mrs Fernandez: I have enjoyed the student conferences and looking at all the submitted work.

Reading : In reading we have looked at the structural and language features of a non-fiction text. We have learnt comprehension strategies such as prediction, paraphrasing and finding the author's purpose behind writing a piece of text.

Next, in the upcoming weeks we will be looking at how to listen to our inner voice while reading, paraphrasing, prediction and how to identify a purpose behind reading a text. We are soon going to be starting with our serial texts!

Writing : In Writing, we have been looking at vocabulary and how to use it in our writing. Students have been working on Frayer models in their vocabulary lessons. They have created their own personal journals about Covid-19 and have been recording their thoughts and feelings about the pandemic and how it feels about staying home.

Next, in the upcoming weeks we will be looking at how to create a piece of writing by using a picture prompt.

Page 11: creating citizens for the future: compassionate, curious and …€¦ · creating citizens for the future: compassionate, curious and strong. Respect Responsibility Kindness Growth

Numeracy: In maths, we have been looking at interpretation & collection of data. We have looked at how to col-lect data and represent it on picture graphs & column graphs. In the coming weeks we will be looking at bar graphs, line graphs and how to collect data in an efficient way. Please make sure kids are completing their tasks on Matheletics and My numeracy.

Humanities: Throughout our Geography unit, students will investigate the characteristics of places and environ-ments in Australia and its neighbouring countries, African and South America. They started with Australia & its characteristics last week.

Respectful Relationships:

Students are currently learning about personal strengths, both independently and within a group.

Reminders:

• Students need to be logging into Google Classroom each day. But please complete tasks at a time that works for your family.

• Students need to be handing in the work they are completing.

Hello 5/6 families,

It has been wonderful to continue to see our students accessing the remote learning and engaging

with the tasks. We have also thoroughly enjoyed conferencing with each child individually and

meeting together as a class on Fridays. Just a reminder to ensure your child is recording their read-

ing in their log book, as this is something presented in the individual conferences.

This week students have been learning about the following:

Reading: Analysing the text structure and persuasive techniques in various persuasive texts.

Writing: The stages of the writing process by planning, drafting and publishing a persuasive letter.

Maths: Interpreting a variety of different graphs, tables and plots.

History: The impact of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We look forward to seeing the new work our students produce as they become accustomed to the

new learning platforms.

Prep - Students are having interesting challenges and new learning, working with digital tech-nology to support their counting and singing in French. They are practicing counting and singing the alphabet, which in turn is helping their knowledge in English too.

Grade 3- Students are learning to identify animals in French by undertaking different activi-ties such as writing simple sentences, labeling and filling in the missing letters. As well as cre-ating pieces of art inspired by French artists and using the French language shape, colour and style.

5/6 - The senior cohort are supporting their learning of family. Together, we are learning more of everyone's background and intercultural experiences, as we celebrate diversity in the French virtual classroom.

Wominjeka! All the artists should be very proud of the way they’ve adjusted to remote learning. There are many beauti-ful, thoughtful and inspiring artworks being photographed and uploaded every week. There are also in-sightful responses being shared in classroom streams. Although I’m missing chatting with everyone and see-ing all the beautiful smiles in the art room, this is definitely the next best thing. This term our overall focus is ‘My Place, My World’. We are also covering media arts within the focus as well as Aboriginal perspectives, so it’s a very busy term. Where possible we are also linking the curriculum to various artists that inspire us to think and create. A couple of weeks ago artists were encouraged not only to create, but to display their rainbow artworks in the fronts of their homes where the whole community could enjoy it on their walks. These messages of hope, added to the national Rainbow Trail seen on FaceBook, have created a beauty and wonder in the community not seen before. Make sure you go for a walk and notice them! More recently, we have looked at short films about the First Peoples and we’ve been thinking about how media arts can be used to tell stories. We are focusing on technology and audience and working on creating our own media artworks. Keep up the amazing creativity and thoughtfulness you’re showing. Ms. Popczyk
