The concept design for new commercial offices, which incorporated a curved end to the building, was undertaken by Mellor Architects. The structure was constructed using braced portal steel frames sat on mass concrete pad foundations. The curved end was constructed using curved steel floor and eaves beams spanning between columns, with steel rafters being tied back to a central apex. The design and analysis of the structure was done using Masterseries 3D modelling software. Design Concept: Roof – Traditional slate roof built of timber rafters spanning between steel purlins, eaves and ridge beams. First Floor – Traditional timber floor with the larger spans being constructed using specially manufactured ‘I’ joists. Ground Floor – Ground bearing slabs. CREA BUILDING, KENDAL
