Protect your work surface with recycled newspaper. Place a plastic cup that is smaller than your flower pot in the center of the newspaper.

Flip the flower pot upside down and put it over the top of your cup.

Pour one color of Crayola® acrylic paint into 3-4 small plastic cups.

Leave one cup of paint alone. Lighten the second cup of paint

by adding a small amount of white paint. Darken the next cup of paint with a small amount of black paint. If you’d like a fourth color, add a small amount of paint in a complementary color to the final cup.

Add 1 tsp of water to each cup to thin the paint.

Pour each color of paint over the edges of your flower pot to create a drip dye effect.Let dry and add flowers, stationery or other items as you choose.

On thin white cardboard or poster board, trace around an object, to make circles 5 inches in diameter. Cut out the circles.

Divide the circle into six equal, pie-like sections.

Color the sections with Crayola®crayons. Experiment with varying color patterns. Poke a small hole in the center of the circle with scissors. Pull about 18 inches of yarn or string halfway through the hole.

Hold one end of the string in each hand. Swing the string and circle until the entire length of string is twisted. Then give the string a firm, brisk pull. As the wheel spins, watch the colors appear to mix.

Complementary colors such as yellow and purple, red and green, or blue and orange will appear muddy brown. Alternating two primary colors will result in the secondary color that those two colors create. For example, when alternating sections are blue and yellow, the spinning wheel will appear to be green.

• Place another piece of wax paper over the top of your crayon shavings. Tape down the edges and make sure to remove as many air bubbles as possible.

• With adult supervision, use a hair dryer to melt the shavings until they form a colorful melted surface.

• Wait for your melted crayons to dry before cutting raindrop shapes into your melted wax leaving the parchment paper on.

• Tie thin string to a dowel and tape your raindrops to the string to form your sun catcher!
