Crandall 1 Independent Reading Summative Assignment* English 11 – Bradley Due date: May 29, 2015 Objectives: To show knowledge and understanding of an independently chosen novel. To show awareness of the ways in which the production and reception of texts contribute to their meaning To evaluate conflicting viewpoints within and about particular literary texts To analyze the style, register and structure of a text To use elements from a novel to produce new media The Product: Please choose one of these possible ideas for a project which will be completed on May 29, 2015. All essays, when applicable, will be between 6001,000 words in length. Creating a movie production of your novel. This would include a movie trailer and an essay in which you choose which actors/actresses would play the roles of the characters in your novel. There should be an essay with an explanation for why you would cast a particular actor/actress based on evidence found in the book. This option can be collaborative with one other student. Creating a movie production of your novel #2. Choose ten songs to set a movie score to particular scenes in the novel. Please make sure to explain in an essay how each of the songs fit that particular scene. Creating a graphic novel adaptation of your independent reading. This option would have a 20 panel graphic novel created that would either summarize the climactic scene from your novel or the entire novel. This project will be graded not only on the quality of the dialogue and descriptive boxes, but also the artwork itself. You may use computer graphic design to assist you with this project. Complete an original work of art (dance, song, painting, etc) that has been inspired by the reading of this novel. In your essay, explain how this novel inspired your original piece of art. Using Storify , please place ten websites that each of your main characters would have visited if they were browsing the web. In your essay, explain why they would be looking at those particular websites. (Please make sure that the websites they would visit would fit the school’s technology standards.) Rewriting the story. You will need to write an essay explaining how you would rewrite this novel using specific scenes from the novel and giving explanations as to why your rewrite would improve this novel. This essay will need to be 1,0001,500 words long. Turn the novel you read into a children's story by retelling the plot in a simple way with vocabulary appropriate for youngsters. Make sure your creation looks like a children's book, complete with a hard cover, an appealing book jacket with the title and author, and colorful illustrations above and below your writing. DO NOT use lined paper, and make sure all writing is either typed or written neatly with a black marker. Your children's book should be 1215 pages in length and capture the key elements of the novel.
