Our installation at the Belvedere

Mansion, in Claremore, was quite

an event! It was wonderful to see

so many happy, smiling faces in

attendance.

My thanks to V.V. Larkin, Ex-

President of the Oklahoma Divi-

Ex-Honorary President of the

Oklahoma Division, for the beauti-

ful installation service. Mary Jeanne

Hansen, Honorary President of

General was instrumental in getting

the Officer books for our new

Officers and we owe her our grati-

tude, as well.

As you will see in this newsletter,

we now turn our attention ahead

to more activity and service. Au-

Annual Meeting and Chartering and

I have appointed Sherry Rollins to

chair that planning committee. She

and her committee are work-

ing industriously to make our

first annual event memorable.

For several months we have

worked diligently to organize

and we have come a long

ways. The theme of the An-

nual Meeting is “Follow the

Yellow Brick Road”. I hope

you will plan to be in Baxter

Springs for our Annual Meet-

Charter, induction of new

members and presentation of

Chapter Member Certificates.

Cowskin Prairie's help as well as

Cowskin Prairie Chapter was in-

vited to help open the historical

Women’s Fashion Exhibit at Har-

Ber Village on June 28th. This was

the second living history invitation

extended by the village to the chap-

ter in two months. Several of our

members were able to participate

and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Escorted by Jim Rollins, they braved

the hot sun, strong winds and

storms that rolled in that after-

noon. Our members strolled

through the village, posed for pho-

tos, answered questions and in

general, had a great time. The pub-

lic gave great feedback and appreci-

ated the United Daughters' of the

Confederacy for the living history.

It was very humbling to see these

~ Why I Am a Daughter of the Confederacy~

The name "United Daughters of the Confederacy" is a registered trademark of the General Organization and may not be used

outside the Organization without the express written consent of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

I am a Daughter of the Confederacy because I was born a Daughter of the Confederacy. A part of my heritage was that I came

into this world with the blood of a soldier in my veins...a soldier who may have had nothing more to leave behind to me and to

those who came after me except in heritage..a heritage so rich in honor and glory that it far surpasses any material wealth that

could be mine. But it is mine, to cherish, to nurture and to make grace, and to pass along to those yet to come. I am, therefore, a

Daughter of the Confederacy because it is my birthright.

I am a Daughter of the Confederacy because I have an obligation to perform. Like the man in the Bible, I was given a talent and

it is my duty to do something about it. That is why I’ve joined a group of ladies whose birthright is the same as mine...an organi-

zation which has for its purpose the continuance and furtherance of the true history of the South and the ideals of southern wom-

anhood as embodied in its Constitution.

I am a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy because I feel it would greatly please my ancestor to know that I am a

member. It would please him to know that I appreciate what he did and delight his soldier love to know that I do not consider the

cause which he held so dear to be lost or forgotten. Rather, I am extremely proud of the fact that he was a part of it and was num-

bered among some of the greatest and bravest men which any such cause ever produced.

I am a Daughter of the Confederacy because I can no more help being a Daughter of the Confederacy than I can help being an

American, and I feel that I was greatly favored by inheriting a birthright for both.
