Last Thursday the school held the monthly P&C meeting with discussion being held on the proposed 5/6 transition to high school in 2015. Parent feedback is always welcomed at Cowra Public School and after consultation the school will be looking to only involve Year 6 in transition activities at this time. The P&C will be holding a Movie Night later in the term on Wednesday, 26 November. Please highlight this date on your calendar as it promises to be a great night. The P&C will also be starting preparations towards the planned School Fete that is scheduled for March. If you would like to be part of the Fete Committee please contact Mrs Long at the school. This will be the major event for 2015 and we welcome new members to the P&C. This week we have had several teachers away from the school participating in Professional Learning. We are delighted that our Stage 1 teachers have completed their accreditation in L3, which is an early literacy program currently being run in both Kindergarten and Year 1. Congratulations to these ladies. Kinder orientation is in full swing with the third session on today and the children starting to show signs of familiarisation within the school. It is great to see the enthusiasm from our tremendous staff towards our new students which makes this experience so worthwhile. Today our girls’ League Tag team has been competing in the gala day held in Grenfell. We hope the girls had a great day and thank the parent helpers for assisting in the transport of children and Mr Murray and Miss Milgate for coaching the team. Tomorrow senior sport will be held in the morning and will be at this time until the end of the year. This is to provide the students with the best chance of reducing the sun exposure that is experienced in the later part of the day. Tomorrow the school will be hosting the ACT Junior Band at approx 2.30pm. The school is once again looking forward to seeing a visiting band of student performers. The Cowra Shire Council has sent a recent information alert with details of road changes in Vaux Street in the next week. Please be aware traffic changes are expected over a period of time at the intersection of Vaux Street and Macquarie Street. Due to illness, Mr Lewis will be away from the school for a period of time and Ms CANTEEN SPECIALS FOR NEXT WEEK Due to popular demand next Thursday and Friday the canteen will be making FRESH PIZZAS again. Dear Parents

Another week seems to have passed in the

blink of an eye. Last Thursday the school

held the monthly P&C meeting with

discussion being held on the proposed 5/6

transition to high school in 2015. Parent

feedback is always welcomed at Cowra

Public School and after consultation the

school will be looking to only involve Year 6

in transition activities at this time. The P&C

will be holding a Movie Night later in the

term on Wednesday, 26 November.

INFANTS ASSEMBLIES

Infants assemblies will now be held

every second Thursday, i.e. even

weeks. The assemblies will be held in

the Infants Open Space and

commence at 2.00pm and finish at

2.30pm when the children will return to

their classrooms.

At these assemblies students will be

receiving Merit Certificates and PBL

awards.

Every alternate Thursday (not assembly

week) from 12.30pm until 1.00pm the

Infants will be holding combined

singing in the Infants Open Space. All

parents are invited to come along and

listen to the children singing.

PRIMARY ASSEMBLIES

The Primary will also be holding their

assemblies every second Thursday, i.e.

even weeks at 2.30pm in the school

auditorium.

The assemblies will include the Year 6

Public Speaking and Merit Certificates

will also be presented on the day.

COMBINED ASSEMBLY

The school will be holding combined

assemblies twice a term. At these

assemblies the Infants and Primary

Aussies of the Month will be announced

and the children will be presented with

their awards.

Next Combined Assembly (K-6)

will be held next Thursday, 27

November at 2.00pm in the

school auditorium.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Infants - Bridie Smith

Bridie is pictured with her mother, sister, little

brother and the presenter Bejay representing

Cowra Neighbourhood Centre

Bridie received her award for being a

thoughtful, caring class member and friend

who shares her smiles with everyone. Bridie

works to a high standard in all areas. She takes

pride in her work and willingly shares her

expertise with her classmates. Bridie is an

excellent representative of Cowra Public

School and wears her uniform with pride.

STAGE 3 CANBERRA

EXCURSION

As the time draws closer the students

are getting excited about this excursion.

The excursion will occur: Wednesday,

10th December to Friday, 12th

December 2014 (Week 10).

Accommodation: will be at Camp

Cottermouth.

The cost will be $247 per student, this

was subsidised by the Stage 3 Pie Drive.

This includes ALL costs, except for lunch

on the first day. The itinerary for the

excursion will be sent home in the next

few weeks.

The excursion needs to be paid in full by

20th November.

YR 6 HUMAN SEXUALITY

COURSE

The school has implemented a Personal

Development Program for Year 6

students.

The course will run over three one-hour

sessions:

Tuesday, 21 October

Tuesday, 28 October

Tuesday, 24 November

The program includes nutrition, health,

safety, drug education, recreation, self

esteem and human sexuality.

During the lessons the year will be in one

co-educational group.

Parents are most welcome to attend any

or all of the sessions.

Notes have been sent home and these

need to be returned to school in order

for your child to participate.

No child can be included unless express

written permission is obtained.

SCHOOL BANKING

The Commonwealth Bank is running another amazing promotion to reward regular

saving.

To be in the running, students simply need to make a School Banking deposit between

20 October and 30 November 2014, regardless of the value. They will then be

automatically entered into the competition. The more times they deposit, the more

THE BRAVE

PROGRAM

The BRAVE Program is

an interactive, online

program for the

prevent i on and

treatment of childhood and adolescent

anxiety. The programs are free, and

provide ways for children and

teenagers to better cope with their

worries. There are also programs for

parents.

There are 2 programs, one for children

(aged 8-12 years) and one for parents.

Any child who worries about things will

find the program useful. Any parent

wanting to learn more about how to

help their child overcome worries can

also do the program. You can do the

program on your own, or together.

Check out the FAQs for more

information.

The BRAVE-ONLINE program was

developed by a team of researchers

who have over 15 years’ experience

working in the field of child anxiety.

Members include Dr Caroline Donovan

and Professor Susan Spence, from the

School of Psychology and Behavioural

Basis of Health at Griffith University, in

collaboration with Dr Sonja March at

The University of Southern Queensland,

Professor Justin Kenardy at The University

of Queensland and Dr Jane Coleman.

Friday sport for primary students will continue on from last term . Below is a reminder of the sports on offer. If your child plays either

Netball or goes to the Skate Park they need to pay $3.00 to the school office before school on Friday morning.

week’s newsletter for more details.

If you are not a regular of our canteen, why not try some of our new

products next week, and support your schools’ P & C Association which

raises money for many worthwhile projects in our school.
