    PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN -- OFFENSE

Tony Romo begins his second season as Dallas start-ing quarterback, giving the Cowboys stability at that positionfor the first time since the 1990s. After signing a seven-yearcontract extension Oct. 10, 2007, the Cowboys offense wasrewarded by Romos emergence last season as the club ledthe NFC and was second in the league in scoring offense, averaging 28.4 points-per-game. In just his first full seasonas a starting quarterback, Romo led the Cowboys to a fran-chise record tying 13 wins while earning himself his secondconsecutive trip to the Pro Bowl as the NFCs starting quar-terback. Along the way, Romo set numerous single-season

club passing records, including touchdown passes (36),passing yards (4,211), 300-yard games (seven), and hiscompletion percentage of 64.4% was the sixth-highest sin-gle-season mark in club history. He led the NFC in yards-per-attempt (8.10) and was second in the conference in yardsand third in completion percentage. Romo has now started26 regular season games and owns a record of 19-7.Through his career, he has completed 555 of his 857attempts for 7,114 yards with 55 touchdowns and 32 inter-ceptions. He now has 10 career 300-yard outings which tiesDanny White for the second-most in club history behind TroyAikmans 13.

The Dallas Cowboys called on seasoned veteran BradJohnson to become the clubs backup quarterback in 2007, aposition he returns for in 2008. Johnson, a proven quarterback

in the league, is also one of the leagues most accurate. With a61.8 career completion percentage, Johnson ranks fifth in theNFL among quarterbacks with over 3,000 attempts. He is tiedwith Jim Plunkett and Daryle Lamonica for 52nd place on theNFLs all-time passing list (164). As a starter, Johnson hasracked up a 71-51 record (.582 winning percentage) and did notthrow an interception in 48 of those starts. He holds the leaguerecord for consecutive seasons with a completion percentageover 60.0 (11) and has two Pro Bowl selections along with aSuper Bowl XXXVII Championship - Tampa Bay (2002). As astarting quarterback, Johnson has led three teams (Minnesota,Tampa Bay and Washington) to the playoffs. In his first seasonin Dallas, Johnson saw extended action in the season finale atWashington and completed seven-of-11 passes for 79 yards -his only passing statistics of the season.

QUARTERBACKMarion Barberhas displayed an explosive and energetic

running style that has provided a spark to the Dallas runninggame and allowed the fourth-year player to earn his first careertrip to the Pro Bowl in 2007 despite spending the season as areserve. He established career numbers for carries (204) andrushing yards (975) while adding 10 touchdowns in 2007. Hereturns in 2008 as the most experienced rusher on the Dallasdepth chart.

In continuing with the recent trend of a two-running backsystem, the Cowboys used their first pick in the 2008 drafton a running back that left the collegiate ranks as only thefourth running back in NCAA history to average over 7.0yards-per-carry. Felix Jones is slated to complemenMarion Barber and is no stranger to a two-back system aftespending his collegiate career sharing the backfield withDarren McFadden.

Dallas added to its backfield depth once again in the

2008 NFL Draft by selecting Tashard Choice in the fourthround. Choice left Georgia Tech as the first running back inschool history to top 1,000 yards in consecutive seasonswhile also leading the ACC in rushing both years.

Deon Anderson will take over as the clubs starting fullback after starting four games and playing in eight as a rookie last season. He is a natural fullback, that was selected inthe sixth round (195th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft. Hisrookie season was slowed after tearing his right rotator cuffand spending the second half of the season on the clubsinjured reserve list.

Terrell Owens signed withDallas prior to the 2006 seasonand has exceeded expectationssince his arrival. He led the teamwith 1,180 yards in 2006 and bet-tered that in 2007, recording ateam-best 1,355 yards and

establishing a club record with 15receiving touchdowns - tops inthe NFC. For his efforts, he wasselected to his sixth career ProBowl - first as a Cowboy. Throughhis 12 NFL seasons, Owens has882 career receptions - ninth all-time - for 13,070 yards - 10th all-time - and 129 touchdowns - thirdall-time. He has caught a pass in167 consecutive games, secondonly to Marvin Harrison (175).Owens is the second player inNFL history to finish seven sea-sons with 13-or-more touch-

downs, joining Jerry Rice, whodid it eight times. He has 29games with multiple touchdownreceptions and 45 career 100-yard games.

The versatile Patrick Craytonremains as the clubs startingreceiver opposite Owens afterstepping into the role last season

with Terry Glenn sidelined through the first 15 games of theseason. Crayton responded to the challenge, starting 13 of the15 games he played and setting career-highs in receptions(50), yards (697) and touchdowns (seven).

Behind Owens and Crayton, several young receivers willbe counted on to make an impact impact for the Cowboys this

season. Sam Hurd and Miles Austin, who both made theclub as rookie free agents in 2006 and benefitted fromincreased playing time last year will start the season as game-day inactives. Hurd suffered a high ankle sprain in the finalpreseason game while Austin sprained his knee in the pre-season contest at Denver. Working through his first full train-ing camp, second-year receiver Isaiah Stanback showedsplashes of comprehending the receiver position after makingthe transition from college quarterback to pro receiver lastyear. His progress and playing time may be slowed at thebeginning of the 2008 season after he suffered a shoulderinjury in the preseason game against Houston.

At the top of the tight end depth chart lies fifth-year manand four-time Pro BowlerJason Witten. With his selectionto the 2007 Pro Bowl, Witten now trails only Jay Novacek(five) for the most Pro Bowl appearances by a Dallas tightend. Through his five seasons, Witten has emerged as oneof the most prolific tight ends in club history. The 2007 sea-son was no exception as Witten established franchise tightend records for catches (96), receiving yards (1,145) and acareer-high seven touchdown catches. He became the firstDallas tight end and 13th tight end in league history to top

    TIGHT END

WIDE RECEIVER1,000 receiving yards in a season. He also became just theeighth tight end in NFL history to record four consecutive 60plus catch seasons. He already has four of Dallas top-fivesingle-season reception totals and four of the top-six singleseason receiving yards totals. He enters the 2008 season

just 17 yards shy of becoming the sixth Dallas pass catcheto reach 4,000 career receiving yards. He is also 52 catches shy of becoming the fifth pass catcher to catch at least400 passes. A model of durability, Witten has appeared in 82

of a possible 83 games, missing just one with a broken jawin 2003.

After a draft-day trade that sent 2006 second roundselection Anthony Fasano to Miami, the Dallas Cowboysshowed their dependency on a quality tight end when theyselected Martellus Bennett in the second round (61st overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft. Through the preseason, Bennet

has displayed his ability as a pass catcher, shedding tacklesfor 71 yards on six catches. He continues to work on his ability as a quality blocker in order to become a well-roundedtight end in the mold of Witten.

Tony Curtis returns for his third season in Dallas afterseeing time in all 16 games as a reserve in 2007. The 2007season saw Curtis record his first three receptions - altouchdowns - while also proving his worth as a capable runblocker.

As one of the biggest and most powerful offensive lines inthe league in 2007, the Dallas Cowboys return all five startersfrom last year in left tackle Flozell Adams, left guard KyleKosier, center Andre Gurode, right guard Leonard Davisand right tackle Marc Colombo. Behind the O-Lines work, theDallas offense finished second in the NFC, third in the leagueaveraging 365.7 yards-per-game. The club racked up 455points, the second-most behind the 1983 squads 479. TheDallas line was also well represented in the Pro Bowl, sendingAdams for his fourth appearance - second consecutive -Gurode for his second consecutive and Davis for his first tripThe line will lose some consistency to start the season afteKosier suffered a foot injury in the Houston game and may besidelined for several weeks.

With Kosier sidelined with a foot injury suffered in the pre-season game against Houston, Cory Procter- who startedtwo games at center in place of Gurode (knee) last season -will step in to start at left guard

Pat McQuistan (Dallas 2006 seventh round selection)

along with two of Dallas 2007 draft picks - James Marten (thirdround) and Doug Free (fourth) will remain in a reserve role attackle. All three have the ability to play more than one positionand will continue to learn from some of the best this season.

Joe Berger, in his fourth year, will backup both the guardand center positions and Montrae Holland - acquired in atrade with Denver leading up to the season opener - round outhe depth on the offensive line.
