Patinack Farm to be Sold (cont. from p1) Patinack was also the sponsor of many races andracedays at top venues, but even the Australian TurfClub was forced to withhold prize money won byPatinack horses to offset those fees. The AustralianOaks Apr. 27 will be the final event sponsored by thefarm. Tinkler=s colors were most prominently carried byA$1.025-million Inglis sales-topper All Too Hard (Aus),by farm stallion Casino Prince (Aus), who defeatedPierro (Aus) (Lonhro {Aus}) in the G1 Caulfield Guineaslast October and was subsequently runner-up in the G1 Cox Plate. Facing increasing financial pressureowing to the crash of his mining investments, Tinklersold All Too Hard and some property to Vinery in late2012 in a deal valued around A$20 million. Magic Millionswill be chargedwith handling thedivestment ofPatinack, whichincludes morethan 1000racehorses,stallions andbroodmares andproperties, including the 3300-acre Sandy Hollowfacility in the Hunter Valley. ANathan has built a truly world-class operation inPatinack Farm, which includes superb facilities, alongwith leading racing and breeding stock,@ said Harvey.AHe has had considerable success in a relatively shortperiod of time, winning [Group 1] races like theCaulfield Guineas, Chipping Norton and Champagne S. Ibelieve we will generate great interest from potentiallocal and overseas buyers, seeking to either establish orbuild up their existing operations.@ The current plan calls for Patinack to be offered andsold as a Awalk-in, walk-out@ basis, and the deal isexpected to be worth A$120 million. That figure willreportedly leave Tinkler well short of what he hasinvested over the past several years. According topublished reports, it is costing A$600,000 a week tomaintain his operation. ASince its establishment in 2007, Patinack Farm hasbecome a leading racing and breeding operation,@Tinkler said in the release. As I am spending more timeoverseas, I do not have time to manage the business.@

Redoute’s Choice to be in Demand at Inglis (cont. from p1) The colt will need it, as Liston reports that there hasalready been considerable interest in the colt on thefarm, including from international agents, and heexpects that to multiply once they reach the Inglis salecomplex in Sydney this week. Inglis have even arranged for a media call this comingThursday, such is theexpected level of mediarequests to see the coltand that will be the onlytime the yearling will beparaded for media and thesales company has puttogether a video and photocompilation taken at GilgaiFarm. Helsinge lives onJamieson's privatebreeding establishmentGilgai Farm in Nagambi, one hour north of Melbourne.Gilgai Farm has been operating for 12 years and ishome to Jamieson's select band of broodmares, obviously with Helsinge the headline producer. Jamison is now placing his yearlings for sale throughthe family-owned Three Bridges Thoroughbreds, run byListon. Last year Helsinge=s full-sister to lot 131 sold at theEaster Sale for A$2.6 million to BC3 Thoroughbreds.

Now named Belle Coutre (Aus), she is in training withDanny O'Brien at Flemington. Liston is expecting the colt to sell for considerablymore than the filly did last year. Naturally he iscircumspect about the colt's potential sale price, but itis known that Inglis is expecting the former Easterrecord of A$3 million to be broken. The Australasian yearling sale record is A$3.6 million, and, with Australian and international competition forthe Redoute=s Choice colt, expectations are this is arecord that could well be broken next week. The colt could be one of the last, if not the last, opportunity to buy into this branch of the distinguishedfamily, as Jamieson is not planning on selling any morefillies from Helsinge. She has a weanling full-sister toBlack Caviar and she is back in foal to Casino Prince(Aus), the sire of All Too Hard. Both of the colt=s prestigious siblings have raced toacclaim over this Southern Hemisphere season inAustralia. Black Caviar returned to racing after winningthe G1 Diamond Jubilee S. (1200 meters) at RoyalAscot last June and the outstanding mare has extendedher record to 24 wins from 24 starts with her latestwin in the G1 William Reid S. over 1200m at MooneeValley Mar. 22. The 6-year-old, trained by Peter Moody,is due to race next in the G1 TJ Smith S. (1200 meters)at Randwick Apr. 13 and such is the attraction of themare that Randwick is already sold out due to a 25,000crowd restriction because of ongoing reconstruction ofthe Randwick stands. All Too Hard was a A$1.025-million yearling purchasehimself. That was justified the moment the colt, trainedby John, Michael and Wayne Hawkes, won the siremaking G1 Caulfield Guineas (1600 meters) at Caulfieldlast October. The colt was second to Ocean Park (NZ)(Thorn Park {Aus}) in the G1 Cox Plate (2404 meters)and then returned for a summer campaign of two Group1 wins in succession, the C F Orr S. (1400 meters) andFuturity S. (1400 meters), both against his elders atCaulfield in February. A change of ownership after thespring for the colt=s future stud career valued the colt inexcess of A$20 million. The prized yearling=s page received even more black-type Saturday through his second dam Scandinavia, whose 2-year-old filly Scandiva (Aus) (Fastnet Rock{Aus}) won the G2 Magic Night S. on Rosehill GuineasDay to join her three-quarter brothers, Magnus andWilander, with black-type. The international attraction for lot 131 is onlyamplified by his sire, Arrowfield Stud=s Redoute=sChoice, standing his first Northern Hemisphere at HHThe Aga Khan's Haras de Bonneval in France. There heis serving a book of some of the best mares from, notonly the Aga Khan=s broodmare band, but from leadingstuds in UK, Ireland and France. Redoute=s Choice recently passed the 100 stakeswinners mark and already this figure is now 102 stakeswinners.

It would not surprise if the serious syndicatescurrently being assembled in Australia to bid for theRedoute=s Choice colt face even more serious interestfrom offshore interests, such is the appeal of thepedigree page. The colt is due to sell at around 3:30p.m. AEST (12:30 a.m. EDT) next Tuesday.

Sullivan continued, AWe=ve never had a doubt thathe=d go two turns. If you watch him train and gallopout in his works, he never indicated that going twoturns would be a problem. I think we=ll find out howgood he is over the next four to six weeks. I=ve beenlucky enough to be around Todd [Pletcher] for a longtime and I don=t know if I=ve ever seen a horse train likehim and handle things the way he does.@ Let=s Go Stable, formed in 2006, is still searching forits first Grade I victory. Ready=s Echo quickly put thepartnership on the map with a third-place finish in the2008 GI Belmont S., and a close runner-up effort in thefollowing year=s GI Breeders= Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita. AIt would be something that we would cherish,@Sullivan said of winning at the highest level. AAnytimeyou can win a Grade I with this kind of horse that hasthis kind of ability and has created a little bit of a cultfollowing and buzz, it would be a huge bonus.@

‘Vying’ for Favoritism... Vyjack has created plenty of buzz while racing inNew York this winter as well. Conditioned by the currently suspended RudyRodriguez, the bay tipped his hand in his first twostarts over the Aqueduct main track last term, includingan impressive 5 3/4-length tally in the seven-furlongTraskwood S. Dec. 9. He prevailed by a head afterracing a bit headstrong while making his route debut inthe GII Jerome S. over the inner Jan. 5, then flipped thescript with a visually impressive come-from-behinddecision in the GIII Gotham S. Mar. 2 (video). AI go into every race with the expectation to win andthis race is no different,@ owner David Wilkenfeld saidof the Big Apple=s premier GI Kentucky Derby prep.AThe horse is very fit and he=s very durable. We gavehim time between the Jerome and the Gotham, and Ithink that the Gotham was a really good learningexperience for him. He=s worked terrifically since andwe=re expecting him to run well. If we don=t win, wehave no excuse except that we were beaten by a horsethat ran faster than us.@ Wilkenfeld continued, AI think it will be a big test forboth horses. Verrazano is the best horse that we=vefaced, but I think Vyjack is also the best horse thatVerrazano has faced to date. I=m looking forward to thechallenge.@ It=s been quite the first foray into horse ownership byWilkenfeld. With the help of former Zayat racingmanager Sobhy Sonbol, Wilkenfeld purchased Vyjackfor $100,000 as a FTMMAY 2-year-old. AThis has really been a great opportunity to enjoy theexperience with my parents and my extended familyand friends,@ Wilkenfeld said. AIf you saw the winner=scircle after the Gotham, you could see that we had a lotof people with us at the races. I think that crowd willhopefully continue to grow and I can enjoy theexperience with people that are very important in mylife. It=s been a wonderful experience.@ Wilkenfeld is quick to go to bat for Rodriguez, whohas come under fire in the press while serving a 20-daysuspension for a pair of medication positives for thenon-steroidal anti-inflammatory Flunixin. AHopefully this situation could be used in aneducational format and not a sensationalistic format tounderstand medications and performance-enhancingdrugs and the differences,@ he said. AI think this isgetting way too sensationalized and hopefully all thefacts will come out soon.@ Wilkenfeld continued, AI think Imade a terrific decision sendingthis horse to Rudy. I wanted atrainer that could be very hands-on in terms of getting on him inthe morning because he was verydifficult to train at Fair Hill at firstand we had to geld him. Thetransformation from the way heran in the Jerome and what yousaw in the Gotham is a big creditto the training job that Rudy and his team have done.@ Wilkenfeld, a Manhattan-based entrepreneur, is theman behind the ecommerce company and online promsuperstore promgirl.com. He first got into horseracingas a gambler, cashing in on a pair of seven-figure picksix wagers, including a $3.3-million payday in 2008.How would he approach the Wood from a wageringstandpoint? AI=m always looking for a single when I play the picksix, so I think I would single my horse and hope for thebest,@ he replied. AUSTRALIA DAY A few Americans were reportedly bemused when theband broke out in the Australian national anthem afterAnimal Kingdom=s comprehensive victory in Saturday=sG1 Dubai World Cup (Racing Post Rating 125),centerpiece of a fantastic day=s racing worldwide, which began with an impressive win for another verygood High Chaparral colt (think So You Think) inAustralasia, It=s a Dundeel (out of a Zabeel mare) inSydney=s G1 Rosehill Guineas (RPR 116), and finishedup with wins by the Malibu Moon colt (emphasis oncolt--he needs those) Orb in the GI Florida Derby, and aone-two for second-crop sires in the GII LouisianaDerby, Revolutionary (War Pass) and Mylute (who else, Midnight Lute). Animal Kingdom may have been trained in America(emphasis on >have been=), where he won the GI Kentucky Derby (Beyer 103, in his first start on dirt)and ran a bang-up second to Wise Dan in the 2012 GI Breeders= Cup Mile (Beyer 104, on turf), but if ever ahorse deserved to fly the flag of the United Nations, it=shim. Bred in Kentucky by Team Valor and raised on mygood friend Craig Bandoroff=s Denali Stud, his sireLeroidesanimaux was bred in Brazil, by a sire (CandyStripes) who was foaled in America of Frenchantecedents (by Blushing Groom out of a Lyphardmare), raced in France, and stood in Argentina, wherehe was a leading sire. Animal Kingdom=s dam Dalicia was German-bred, byone of their top sires, Acatenango, raced in Germanyand the U.S., and was sold at the Tattersalls DecemberSale in 2009 (230,000gns) to Shadai Farm, Japan=s(and maybe the world=s, by now) leading breeders. Oh,and he=s trained by the transplanted Englishman,Graham Motion, won the world=s richest race, in Dubai, and will retire to stud in Australia probably later thisyear. That=s eight different flags--so far--which are partof the Animal Kingdom story: the U.S., England,France, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Dubai, andAustralia. As far as Americans striking out on the internationalstage goes, you have to tip your hat to Team Valorsupremo Barry Irwin. He=s re-writing the record book inthat regard. And a big tip of the hat, too, to Australia=sJohn Messara. Landing Animal Kingdom for hisArrowfield Stud was a huge statement about how farAustralasian racing and breeding have advanced in thelast 10 years. Australia has gone from being the topdog in the Southern Hemisphere to becoming a trueworld power. His authoritative win in Dubai means Animal Kingdomis also a top-class horse on three surfaces: dirt (GI Kentucky Derby, 10 furlongs); turf (2nd GI Breeders=Cup Mile);and now synthetic (G1 Dubai World Cup, 10furlongs). All being well, Animal Kingdom will have the chanceto add a Group 1 win on the grass in his next start, likely to be either the G1 Queen Anne S. at a mile--theopening race at Royal Ascot--or the G1 Prince ofWales=s S. at 10 furlongs, Wednesday=s showpiece.Either way, he will be a huge draw, for theprofessionals, at least. The results from UAE races, quite properly, areincluded in the sire lists for both North American andEuropean sires, so Saturday=s winners naturally nowdominate the 2013 Year-to-Date General Sire List.Leroidesanimaux, who is standing this year for $25,000at Stonewall Farm in Ocala, is number one on the TDNGeneral Sire List (click here), now with 10 winners thisyear, but earnings of over $6.37 million, of which$6.06 million has been earned by Animal Kingdom. But >Leroi= is no one-hit wonder. He was trained, you=ll recall, by Bobby Frankel to win eight consecutiveraces at four and five, six of them graded, and includingthree Grade I races at a a mile and a mile and asixteenth, before his streak was halted by Artie Schillerin the 2005 GI Breeders= Cup Mile. His dam was ahalf-sister to Hasili, dam of five Grade I/Group 1winners, plus leading sire Dansili. And, though he mayonly have 10 winners so far this year, besides AnimalKingdom, >Leroi= has two other black-type horses (onewinner, one placed) at the current Santa Anita meet. There=s no fluke about any of this. European sires King=s Best (Kingmambo) (now inJapan) and Montjeu (Sadler=s Wells) rank two-three onthe TDN list, with 13 and 12 winners in 2013,respectively, courtesy of $3-million paychecks to6-year-olds Sajjhaa (King=s Best) in the G1 Dubai DutyFree and St. Nicholas Abbey (Montjeu, and nowevidently the leading earner trained by Aidan O=Brien, with five Grade I/Group 1 wins and earnings over $7.5million) in the G1 Sheema Classic. Speightstown (Gone West) has 46 winners this year, and even if G1 Golden Shaheen winnerReynaldothewizard is his only black-type winner so farin 2013, he does have five black-type horses, and theearners of over $2.8 million, ranking him fourth. Nextcomes Malibu Moon (A.P. Indy), who has 43 winnersthis year, but four black-type winners (three graded, including Orb=s win in the $1-million GI Florida Derby),and the earners of over $2.5 million. Also over $2-million are: Cadeaux Genereux (YoungGeneration) (just four winners this year, and G1 DubaiWorld cup second, Red Cadeaux); Giant=s Causeway(Storm Cat) (10 black-type horses 2013, six graded);Awesome Again (Deputy Minister) (five 2013 BTwinners, three graded); Unbridled=s Song (Unbridled)(four 2013 BT winners); and War Front (Danzig) (alsofour 2013 BT winners, including Lines of Battle, winnerof the $2-million G2 UAE Derby on Saturday). Tapit (Pulpit), also with four 2013 BT winners (allgraded) and 10 BT horses so far this year in all, is notfar off the $2-million mark himself.

“Kempton went okay – at least 61% of the catalogue sold – and we know

they catalogued 100 on purpose, but all these 2-year-old sales now, bar

a road show, making it convenient for local buyers in California, the south

Crop Reports Reynaldothewizard, now seven, is a member ofSpeightstown=s first crop, reminding us that he andTapit are both members of the sire class of (first foals)2006, without question the strongest in America inrecent years. Five of the 15 North American siresamong the top 20 on the current TDN General Sire listcome from this sire crop: #4 Speightstown and #11Tapit, who we=ve mentioned; also #15 Candy Ride(Ride the Rails) and #18 Medaglia d=Oro (El Prado), plusthe one that got away, Lion Heart (Tale of the Cat) (toTurkey), currently #13 on the TDN general Sire List. Ultimately, by the time they have runners of this agethey belong to the General Sire List anyhow, but it=sjust interesting to be able to see the differences in thenumber of real success stories from crop to (sire) crop. Of course, of great interest now are second-cropsires, since they have their first 3-year-olds this year.Revolutionary=s $600,000 payday in Louisiana moveshis sire, War Pass (Cherokee Run) into second spot in2013 earnings among F2010 sires (click here). GII Louisiana Derby second Mylute adds another$200,000 to the total for his sire, Midnight Lute (RealQuiet), and the Hill >n= Dale stallion is now more than$350,000 clear of War Pass, who stood at Lane=s End,but unfortunately died after siring just two crops. Ashford=s Majestic Warrior (A.P. Indy) drops to third, but is one of just three other sires to have over$700,000 in 2013 progeny earnings so far this year.European leader Raven=s Pass (Elusive Quality) ranksfourth after running three-four in the G2 UAE Derby, ahead of Into Mischief (Harlan=s Holiday), whose twotop colts, Vyjack and Goldencents, will be in action thisweekend, in the GI Wood Memorial (also Verrazano=starget) and GI Santa Anita Derby, respectively. He alsohad the one-two finishers in last Saturday=s CrescentCity Oaks. These five are over $200,000 clear, at thispoint, of Curlin (Smart Strike), in sixth place. Cumulatively, Midnight Lute has now gone over the$2-million mark in progeny earnings (click here). IntoMischief has edged past Majestic Warrior, both in the$1.8-million range, for second spot, with War Pass nowup to fourth. Spring at Last (Silver Deputy) drops tofifth, followed by last year=s Leading Freshman Sire(now in Europe), Henrythenavigator (Kingmambo), andRaven=s Pass. First Call: Zanjero, Millennium Farm=s Grade II winnerby Cherokee Run who won or placed in 12 black-typeraces and earned over $1.6 million: Johnny Handsome, winner of the Crescent City Derby last Saturday, hisfirst black-type winner. Among third-crop sires, Darley had its third 2013leader in the last three weeks (click here), as StreetSense (Street Cry), now in Japan (but you'd have toimagine they'd be thinking about bringing him back),had a quick-fire graded race double on Saturday, initiated by 4-year-old Cigar Street in the GIII Skip Awayat Gulfstream, followed by the 3-year-old filly UnlimitedBudget, now 4-for-4 after capturing the GII FairGrounds Oaks.

(However, there was an even more impressivePletcher-trained 3-year-old filly last Saturday, as theA.P. Indy filly Dreaming of Julia won the GII GulfstreamOaks by almost 22 lengths, running a Beyer 114--17points faster than Orb=s win in the GI Florida Derby at the same distance). Discreet Cat(Forestry) retains second spot on the 2013 list, withAny Given Saturday (Distorted Humor) third. LawyerRon (Langfuhr) is now fourth, after Itsmyluckyday=ssecond to Orb in the Florida Derby, with Hard Spun(Danzig) a few thousand behind in fifth. These are allnow within hailing distance of $1 million in 2013progeny earnings. The European leader is another Darley stallion, Teofilo(Galileo). He=s another who had two black-type winnerson Saturday, including the 4-year-old Amira=s Prince, now 4-for-4 in the U.S. after capturing the GII MervinMuniz H. at Fair Grounds. RCI APPROVES UNIFORM DRUG TESTINGPOLICY The Racing Commissioners International gaveits final approval yesterday to the >RCI ControlledTherapeutic Medication Schedule.= The approval isexpected to help pave the way for the implementationof uniform racing medication rules in the U.S. AForyears we have talked about uniformity, but today is thefirst day that we can say there is agreement as to whatconstitutes a violation,@ RCI Chairman DuncanPatterson, who is also the chairman of the DelawareThoroughbred Racing Commission, said in a statement. The RCI schedule provides a guide for testinglaboratories to determine permissible levels of 24substances deemed appropriate for normal equine care, and at what level a substance would violate the rulesand become a violation. It also creates standardizedwithdrawal times for administering medications beforeraces. AIf everyone works from the same schedule, wewill have uniformity,@ RCI President Ed Martin said. TheRCI estimates that 75% of all medication rule violationseach year are for overages associated with substancescontained in its schedule. The ThoroughbredHorsemen=s Association has already spearheaded auniform medication policy based on the RCI Scheduleand approved by several Mid-Atlantic states.

Retired Racehorse Turned Artist on Today Show: Metro Meteor (City Zip) retired from racing in 2009with the hopes of becoming a riding horse for ownersRon and Wendy Krajewski. He had multiple stakesplacings and earned nearly $300,000 during his four-year career. AUnfortunately, after a couple of years as a ridinghorse, it became apparent that Metro was losingflexibility in his knees,@ Ron Krajewski said. AHe hadbecome part of our family, so I started contemplatingwhat Metro could do other than trail riding. I am anartist, so I thought I could teach him to paint. We couldstill spend days together, only we will be making art. Ittook some time and patience, but once he understoodwhat I was asking, he got into it and surprisingly he isreally good.@ Metro Meteor will be on the Today Show during the8:30-9:00 a.m. segment Apr. 4. Fifty percent of allproceeds from his paintings go to New VocationsRacehorse Adoption Program. The bay gelding has sold$20,000 in paintings, with a waiting list of over 50 forhis future work. AWe are very grateful for Metro=s efforts and applaudthe Krajewskis for their commitment to not only Metro, but to the hundreds of retired racehorses that comethrough New Vocations that they support through thesale of each piece of art,@ Anna Ford, New VocationsProgram Director, said.
