FROM OUR CHAPLAIN Dear Friends,

This weekend the Church celebrates the Epiphany of the

Lord. The three kings bring gifts of gold, frankincense and

myrrh to Jesus, the newborn King. Gold and frankincense are

gifts usually offered to God while myrrh is a gift that portends

Jesus' passion and death. Gift giving is part of our Christmas

celebrations. Gifts are given to family and friends for many

reasons. Some gifts are given to say thank you for friendship

while other gift giving conveys gratitude for a kindness

shown. Employers often give bonus gifts this time of year as a

show of gratitude to employees' contribution to the company.

Familial gifts are given as a sign of love and affection of one

family member to another.

In this gift giving season I invite you to think about less

tangible gifts that we could offer Jesus as a sign of deeper

commitment to our spiritual journey. Some ideas: greater

sense of gratitude for the blessings of life, a more generous

heart that is moved to help others who are in need or suffering

in some way, more patience with people we love and care for

or an increased awareness of the value of the gift of time

shared with others. The list is endless. Personally, I'm going to

work on the gift of time shared with friends and family. I am

going to try a little harder to "be in the moment" with them

and not be "elsewhere" in thought, not to rush conversations,

become a better listener and not to over schedule my days so I

limit time spent with others. The gift of time is a precious gift

to share with others and in the long run, outshines and brings

more joy and contentment than any material gift we could give

or receive!

I pray that 2018 be a year filled with blessings and good

health for you and your families. Looking forward to seeing

you at our next CDA meeting! Thanks for all you do for

Sacred Hearts Parish.

2018 March for Life theme

Love Saves Lives January 20, 2018 marks the 45th

Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade decision by the

Supreme Court which legalized abortion in our

country.

In advance of the March for Life, the

Catholic Daughters plan to attend the Solemn

Opening Mass of the National Prayer Vigil

for Life which will be celebrated at The

Basilica of the National Shrine of the

Immaculate Conception on Thursday, January

18th at 5:30pm. National Chaplain Timothy

Cardinal Dolan will be the main celebrant and

homilist.

The March itself will begin on the National

Mall at approximately 1:00 pm on Friday,

January 19th following a musical program and

rally.

The Catholic Daughters will meet at the

National Museum of Natural to warm up before

we begin to March at 1:00.

If you are not able to attend please pray for

the safety and the success of those attending

the 2018 March for Life.

Please join together and remember to “TAKE TIME, TAKE THREE” to pray three (3) Hail Mary’s each day for the end of terrorism and the demise of all terrorist nations. Please pray for our church, Pope Francis, Cardinal Archbishop Sean O’Malley, Very Rev. John Delaney, our Chaplain, Fr. Ben LeTran, and Deacon Eric Peabody that God and the Holy Spirit will continue to guide them in all that they do. Please pray for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. Please pray for those who are affected by the opioid crisis that continues all around us and for the safe return of all servicemen and women during these difficult days. Also, please pray for our members who are ill, facing or recovering from surgery, or in nursing homes, especially, Mary Ann Andrews, Peggy Channell, Ann (Jackie) Hennessey, Genevieve Powers, Beth Sherman, Miss Rose in India, and all who are in need of our prayers.
