The Qualification

More information, including the fullsyllabus, can be found on the websitehttp://www.bcs.org/server.php?show=conWebDoc.2262

The Certificate in IT Law Essentials is a new certificatelaunched in 2005. Organisations which wish to offer courseswhich prepare candidates for the examination must apply foraccreditation to ISEB. The course materials, tutors andpremises are reviewed before an accreditation is awarded.

The examination for the IT Law Essentials certificate willconsist of 40 multiple-choice questions. Each question willcarry one mark. The syllabus is divided into Part A and Part B.Candidates must achieve a pass in both Parts. Each Part willconsist of 20 questions. The examination will last for onehour. The examination will be closed book. A minimum passof 13 correct answers out of 20 in each Part is required.

Part A consists of Contract Law, Privacy and Evidence. Part Bconsists of Intellectual Property, Employment andGovernance and Accessibility.

A fee of £125 is payable to the ISEB for entry.

Pinsent Masons Course

The six modules are being offered over 3 separate days inconsecutive weeks. Two modules are covered in each day.Places can be booked on individual modules. Candidates whowish to take the examination will be expected to carry outreading and private study before and after the teachingmodules. The course covers a wide area of law and a degreeof commitment to private study will be required. Weestimate that candidates should allow as much time forreading and private study as is spent in the taughtenvironment, approximately 20 hours.

The ISEB publishes a specimen paper which candidates shouldutilise as examination practice. In addition Pinsent Masonsoffers a mock examination which it is anticipated will beavailable on line. We have found the use of a mockexamination to be very helpful to candidates in other ISEBexamined courses. The mock examination may be bookedseparately. Candidates can sit the ISEB examination withoutattending the mock examination but we would suggest thatthey think carefully before deciding to do this.

We have allowed a period of weeks between the course andthe examination dates to allow candidates to carry outrevision and private study, to take the mock examination andassess readiness.

Examination Dates 2007/2008
