II. Professional Information:
1- Overall aim of the course:
By the end of this course the students will be able to acquire knowledge in basic science of
different fixed extra-coronal restorations (teeth preparations and restoration construction) and toapply this knowledge efficiently under controlled supervision in the faculty lab.
2- Intended Learning Outcomes of the course ( ILOs):
A: Knowledge and understanding: 1. Mention the different types of crowns and different components of a bridge. 2. Explain the difference in teeth preparations for different extra-coronal restorations (full metal,
metal-ceramic, and all-ceramic).
3. List the different steps for full metal crown and metal-ceramic construction.
4. Describe the different laboratory steps for full metal and metal-ceramic crown construction.5.Define the different instruments and devices used for full metal and metal-ceramic crown
construction.
6. Recognize the nature of the metal-ceramic bond.
B: Intellectual Skills:
1. Select the proper instruments for different types of teeth preparations.2. Determine the effect of ideal teeth preparations on the success of extra-coronal
restorations.
3. Predict the effect of improperly constructed crown.
4. Apply the different laboratory techniques in full metal crown construction.

ceramic, and all-ceramic) on ivory teeth.
2. Manipulate different materials used in full metal crown construction.
3. Perform all the laboratory steps for full metal crown construction.
4. Use lab equipment during full metal crown construction.
