Who is this course for? Teachers or academic managers who want to become more familiar with exam teaching techniques and procedures. Teachers who have to prepare students for internal or external exams. Teachers who have to create their own tests and assessments for students. Course outcomes You will: Increase your repertoire of practical activities to help prepare students for tests and assessment Be better able to adapt and develop exam preparation materials to make them interesting for your students Compare existing ELT exams such as the Cambridge Exams, IELTS and TOEFL Gain a better understanding of methodology and principles underpinning testing and assessment An increased ability to use information gained from testing and assessment to provide useful feedback to students and to plan further teaching and learning Gain a greater awareness of learner training techniques to develop your students’ independent learning inside and outside the classroom Gain a better understanding of how to differentiate test preparation and testing for students of different needs and abilities Have increased opportunities for professional and career development, particularly as specialist exam teacher and examiner Course description Tuition (43 hours per two week course) All Bell Teacher Campus courses are delivered by highly experienced teacher trainers. The team includes a whole host of leading ELT experts and published educational authors. This practical course will give you the skills and confidence to effectively prepare your students for both internal and external English exams (e.g. Cambridge exams, IELTS etc). You will learn about the most effective, evidence-based methods and strategies to help students succeed at different task types across the four skills. You will also study the theory behind effective assessment, and improve your ability to assess tests and design your own. You will also develop your English and be more confident in using English in the context of testing and assessment. This practical course covers testing and assessment methodology and principles. Participants will design tests throughout the course to apply the theory. Topics covered in Teaching Exam Classes include: Practical tips for preparing students for testing and assessment Making comparisons between existing ELT tests including IELTS, Cambridge Exams and TOFEL How to teach 21st century learning strategies and study habits to make students more independent learners Recognising effective tests and assessment and identifying underpinning methodology Sourcing and exploiting authentic materials for test design Using success criteria to better differentiate learning outcomes for students of mixed ability Helping students become more independent learners Aligning learning activities and assessment strategies Analysis of different marking criteria Observation of exam preparation classes Each Course we run is tailored by our expert tutors to the participants so content may be adapted to best suit the needs of your group. Take the Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) Choose to take the TKT at Bell Teacher Campus and gain an internationally recognised qualification, awarded by Cambridge English (part of the University of Cambridge). There is a small additional fee of £38 per module including postage for the certificate. Free exam preparation for the TKT is provided.
