KYLE SISCO OF FORT ANN, NY, REPRESENTED SUNYOneonta in the semifinal round of the 2014 College Fed Challenge at theFederal Reserve Bank of New York on Nov. 14. SUNY Oneonta wonan Honorable Mention Award in the competition. The College Fed Challenge is a team competition for undergraduatecollege students. Inspired by the working of the Federal Open MarketCommittee, the competition requires that students work as a team toresearch and analyze current economic data, develop a forecast andreview potential future economic risks, and prepare a presentation andanswer questions on a recommendation for monetary policy.Sisco, a senior majoring in Economics, was part of a 13-member SUNYOneonta team that traveled to the Federal Reserve Bank for the firstround of the competition on Oct. 31. The students were accompaniedby their adviser, Associate Professor of Economics David Ring. Teamsfrom 36 colleges and universities in New York, New Jersey and Con-necticut competed in the first round, and the SUNY Oneonta contingentbested teams from the other schools in its competition bracket to ad-vance to the semifinals. Each team was evaluated in four categories--knowledge of current eco-nomic conditions, understanding of monetary policy, data and analysis, and teamwork. In the semifinal round, SUNY Oneonta's team earned ascore of 16 out of 20 to finish among the top nine schools. Judges praisedthe SUNY Oneonta contingent for its teamwork and awarded a 5 (thehighest score possible) in this category.SUNY Oneonta's School of Economics and Business is accredited byAACSB International--the Association to Advance Collegiate Schoolsof Business, a designation achieved by fewer than 5 percent of businessschools around the world. In addition to its three undergraduate majors,Professional Accounting, Business Economics and Economic, the schooloffers two minors, four concentrations and seven cooperative programs.A liberal arts institution with a strong focus on undergraduate research,SUNY Oneonta consistently gains recognition for delivering excellenceand value. WHY DON’T WE SAY “MERRY CHRISTMAS!?”Twas two months before ChristmasWhen all through our land,Not a Christian was prayingNor taking a stand. Why the PC Police had taken awayThe reason for Christmas - no one could say.The children were told by their schools not to singAbout Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things. It might hurt people’s feelings, the teachers would sayDecember 25th is just a ‘ Holiday ‘.Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and creditPushing folks down to the floor just to get it!CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-PodSomething was changing, something quite odd!As Targets were hanging their trees upside downAt Lowe’s the word Christmas - was nowhere to be found. At K-Mart and Staples and Penny’s and SearsYou won’t hear the word Christmas; it won’t touch your ears.Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-is-tyAre words that were used to intimidate me.Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf BlitzenAt the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatterTo eliminate Jesus, in all public matter. And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faithForbidden to speak of salvation and graceThe true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discardedThe reason for the season, stopped before it started. So as you celebrate ‘Winter Break’ under your ‘Dream Tree’Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.Choose your words carefully, choose what you sayShout MERRY CHRISTMAS! It’s the correct way!
