CCC will host its fi rst Courthouse Red Solo Cup Christmas Tree
Tossnd Chili Contest on the side lawn. Christmas trees (without
stands or
ecorations!) may be dropped off at the CCC garden alongside
Route53/East Broadway near the garden sign, any time after
Christmas and
efore January 17. Teams are being sought for the competitive
throw:rea fire departments, high school teams, church teams, farm
teams
nd family & friends teams all ages welcome! There is no
entry fee,nd winners will receive bragging rights and fun
prizes.
While there, stay for the chili contest being held in the Youth
Barn.Competitors with great chili recipes are being sought as well.
For a $5
ee, a bowl and spoon will be provided to sample all the chili
and cornread. Beer and wine will be available for $5 also. Hot

afternoon, there will be a bonfire where the Christmas

GRASSLAND BIRD VIEWINGAREA: Friends of the Washington County
Grasslands IBA (ImportantBird Area) received a terrific gift just
in time for the holidays a $20,000
rant from the Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust for the
creation ofheAlfred Z. Solomon Grassland Bird Viewing Area! Friends
ofhe IBA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Fort Edward
and
Whitehall.
Friends of the IBA President Laurie LaFond said the handicapped
ac-essible Viewing Area will be built on the nonprofits recently
acquired
Loftus parcel, located on County Route 42 in the Town of Fort
Edward.he said the group expects to break ground on the project
this spring.
Design is being donated by engineering firm CT Male of
Latham.The land was donated to the nonprofit Friends of the IBA
group by
Gerald and Joanne Loftus. The donation advanced Friends of the
IBAsmission of educating the public about and protecting critical
grassland
ird habitat for endangered Short-eared Owls and other threatened
birdshat depend on the Washington County Grasslands for their
survival.
The site is a prime spot for viewing wintering hawks and owls.
An OwlWatch, walk and auto tour has been scheduled for 2pm on
January 24.

WILLIAM TRIPP, 77, of Route40, passed away on Friday, Jan.
2,2015 at the Glens Falls Hospital. Born on March 22, 1937
inHampton, NY, he was the son ofthe late Neil and Edith
(Durkee)Tripp.
Bill was a graduate of ArgyleCentral School. He married Elinor
Yarter Henke on July 24, 1960in the Argyle Presbyterian Church.
Bill owned and operated the Locust Grove Farms. He was veryproud
when his two sons, Bill & Dean and his grandson, Adamcame to
work with him. He was an avid outdoors man and loved hunting and
fishing butespecially he enjoyed spending time with his children,
grandchil-dren and great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was
predeceased by a brother, RichardTripp, a sister, Betty LaMere and
a grandson, Kevin Jenkins. Left to cherish his memory are his wife
of 54 years, ElinorTripp, his sons, William Tripp of Argyle, Dean
Tripp and his wifeMargaret of Argyle; his daughter, Jill Marie
Tripp of Schenectady;his stepsons, Robert Henke and his wife
Janice, Guy Henke andhis wife Joanne all of Argyle; his step
daughters, Roxanne Jenkinsand her husband Larry, Gail Pliscofsky
and her husband Ron allof Argyle; his sisters, Evelyn Layhee of
Milton, Charlotte Tefftand her husband Melvin of Milton, Janis
Millington and her hus-band George of Florida and Marie Henry and
