CURD FAMILY

(Based on Fuller's Curd Family Published 1938)

Edward Curd, the Immigrant, was in Hanover Co., Va. by 1704. Name of 1st wife unknown. His son Edward did not move to Goochland Co. with the other members of the family. Edward Curd Sr. died in 1742, leaving a will dated Feb. 4, 1739/40. Probate 1st Monday in Dec. 1742. This will named his wife:

A theory, not proved, is that Edmund Curd 1772-1846 b. Goochland Co., Va. may be son of Edmund Curd and Eliz Coghill. The Edward Curd who came to Calloway Co., very early and had much land would then be a half brother of Edmund of Wadesboro. His full brothers would be SAMUEL HAWES CURD, SPENCER CURD, AND WILLIAM CURD.

Spencer Curd's dau Sally Ann Curd mar Edmund H. Curd early County Court Clerk of Callowa~ William and all his family came to Calloway County and were closely associated with Edmund here. This implies close kinship among these men. A close study of Logan Co. records might solve the mystery of the parentage of Edmund, first land commissioner of this county.

A careful search of Calloway County records concerning the Curds has been made and it appears that as a family they were political leaders, as well as large landowners. From a study of these Curd records we find a close association among those circled; suggests a family kinship among all those who went from Logan Co., Ky to Calloway County. These families were children of Edmund by his two marriages.

Edmund Curq 1772-1846 is of an age to be a son of Edmund Sr. The names used by his family are similar to those used by the other men who came with their wives and children to Calloway County. They came about the same time and many of them held offices almost as soon as they arrived here.

Mrs. J. W. Vick (Velma B.) is probably better informed on Logan County than anyone else, so I wrote her concerning the parentage of Edmund Curd 1772-1846. In a letter dated Sept 16, 1958, Mrs. Vick says:

"I fully believe that the Edmund Curd, who was born in Goochland Co., Va. 1772 and died in 1846, was a whole brother to Edward Curd b. 1769, and died in 1838 in Calloway Co, and both being sons of Edmund by his 1st wife Mary Curd."

Edmond Curd was born in Goochland, Virginia November 12, 1772, died in Calloway County, KY Aug. 18, 1846. He and his 2nd wife are buried at Wadesboro Cemetery in Calloway County. Edmond Curd left a will recorded in Willbook C., p. 148, naming his children and his wife. He married 1st at Shelby­ville, KY April 8, 1800 Mildred Hereford, daughter of Richard Hereford.
