The WISCONSIN SPUDMOBILE IS BACK visiting the Fair on Thursday, August 3 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. The Spudmobile is the potato industry’s most comprehensive educational and information resource center, on wheels, focused on potato and vegetable production. The Spudmobile features eight different exhibits that take visitors on a journey from the farmer’s field right to the dinner plate. Through interactive technologies and eye-catching graphics, Spudmobile visitors will learn how farmers are fantastic stewards of the environment and how they incorporate the latest technologies into their agricultural practices. When visiting the Spudmobile, guests will learn about various varieties of potatoes grown in Wisconsin, how they are planted and harvested, the nutritional facts about potatoes and statistics about America’s favorite vegetable. Kids will be completely engaged as they play games on the interactive touch table.

The Wisconsin Spudmobile was developed by the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association (WPVGA) which is a non-profit organization that represents and promotes state potato and vegetable growers. The WPVGA represents more than 300 members and affiliates. The Spudmobile has been years in development and will make frequent appearances at locations throughout the Midwest including stops at schools, events and retailers who provide Wisconsin potatoes to their customers.

Since county fairs are an excellent venue for providing information on the importance of agriculture and promoting the local farming community, the Green Lake County Fair was proud to announce the addition of the AgEducation Station last year at the Fair. Once again, we have invited area businesses, organizations and individuals to share their agricultural passion with fairgoers. A variety of programs will be suited for all ages. The AgEducation Station can be found in it’s new location near the east entrance of the grounds on South Street (right in front of the Exhibition Building). Adventures with Ma & Pa will kick of the activities on Thursday with their interactive historical agriculture museum.

GREEN LAKE COUNTY FAIR ENDOWMENT FUND

For Good. For Ever.

At the Green Lake County Fair, it’s all about the kids.

Children and teens throughout Green Lake County gather at the Fair every year for friendly competition in areas like animal showing, gardening, baking, woodworking and photography. Known as the “best little fair around,” the Green Lake County Fair is a fun, family-friendly event for all ages. As one of the community’s most

treasured traditions, organizers wanted to ensure that the Fair would be around for generations to come. So in 2009, the Green Lake County Fair established a charitable endowment with the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.

“The fair is part of the fabric of our community,” says Molly Spaulding, former UW-Extension Family Living Educator. “We want to continue its legacy well into the future.” In the short-term, the fund will assist the Green Lake County Fair in providing small improvements to enhance the fair experience. But in the long-term, the fund will allow fair organizers to pursue various special projects, perhaps even being able to purchase property for an official fairground.

In it’s 75th year, the fair continues to generate excitement among the community. It’s an event Green Lake County residents anticipate year-round. “It’s fun to show at the fair,” says Cole Chapman (fair participant, pictured above). “It’s my favorite part of the summer.”

The Green Lake County Fair partners with the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation (OACF) to manage the Fair Fund. The OACF is a non-profit charitable organization created by and for the people of Winnebago, Waushara, Green Lake Counties and Ripon. Through charitable giving, the Community Foundation strives to make our communities thrive. For more information, please call 920.426.3993 or visit www.OshkoshAreaCF.org

For an Endowment Fund brochure or to make a tax-deductible donation, please contact the Fair Office in person or at 920.294.4033. You may also donate online using the safe, secure system at www.OshkoshAreaCF.org. When prompted, please designate your contribution to support the Green Lake County Fair Fund.
