Dear !Ir. Osborn,
On :lovember 10, 1971 I stopped in Eagle Butte an my return trip from Pierre, for the purpose of making contact with Hal ghurley or any other representative of vour company. I had plans of collecting the samples five the #1 Collins oil test (permit 630) but i was un-able to contact anybcdy, and therefere the e'urvey has not yet re-ceived these cuttings.
Also on the above day T inspected the site of the 41 State oil test (permit 561) and the 41 rulberg (permit 56R) and find that neither of these locations pass our inspection for the fpllowing reasons:
#1 rtate does not show the operator's name on the dry-hole marker end the elevation is incorrect according to my records. The elevation is shown on the marker pipe as 2431 and in my records it is shown as 2416 n.L. Powever, the eerface at this site has been well restored.
01 Eullerg site -ras not yet been restored.
same afternoon T took the liberty of driving through the Tnvestore operation near Lantry with tbe hope again of contacting some of your personnel Put was unsuccesful as there was no activity whatever in the area. T was again impressed by the inactivity in the Ldntry area which certainly is not typical of a real oil field.

Dear Doctor McGregor:
In July when I was in your office you mentioned that you were at a meeting in North Dakota and someone had mentioned that it cost $5,000 to plug a well in that state.
We have now restnred the site on our Investors #1 State well and the actual costs are as follows:
Halliburton Services $606.00 Cement To Plug 283.14 Dozer Work To Restore 632.00
1521.14
Very probably the North Dakota party neglected to mention the depth of the well and I could see that it could very probably run $5000 for a 10 to 120000 foot well.
The above mentioned well is representative of all of our Lantry Field wells and indicated that we can plug a 5000 foot well in the State of South Dakota for somewhat under $2000.
I thought you may be interested in these figures.
Very truly yours•

In our telephone conversation today I advised you that a set of samples for the subject well had been sent to the State Geological Survey in Vermillion, South Dakota, but find that this is not the case. The samples for this well are being processed at the present time and will be forwarded to the South Dakota Geological Survey as soon as processing is completed. Donald W. Moudy Drilling Superintendent P.O. Box 697 Eagle Butte, South Dakota 57625
Dear Mr. Mbudy:
It has been brought to my attention that cuttings samples have .ndirer been submitted to the South Dakota Geological Survey on the following wells:
Investors #2 HollowayJJ',. ;avestors #1 State " 1 Cowan - " - 1 Mary Cock-.-
2 Wallace Cook 2 McLellan 2 Horses . . 1 Collins
There is a possibility that the #1 State samples could be at 'Amstrat and .possibly some of the other samples could have been 'taken by Cities Service, .Inexco, or Conoco under farmouts.
At any.rate it is absolutely necessary that we locate these samples if at all humanly possibly. I would suggest that you phone Anstrat and others for a cutting,of the samples if they have them. Then I wOuld suggest that you have your crews thoroughly go over the drill site areas and dig.in the mud pits. -When the samples are found it probably will be necessary to put them in new bags and renumbered. Then box and ship or drive them to the following address to arrive no later than July 15th,
South Dakota Geological Survey Science Center, University Vermillion, South Dakota 57069
If you are unable to locate such samples in the pits, then I would suggest that you furnish proof:Jo the South Dakota Geological SUrvey that you have done everything possible ,to do so. Perhape you could have witnesses appear before an attorney and he could prepare a notarised statement.
Do not fail on this as it is of prime importance. In this respect, it will be your responsibility in the future to see that all such cuttings are delivered to the South Dakota Geological Survey immediately.
