Congratulatory Message from the Chairman and Membersof the Executive Committee of CISCE to all Affiliated Schools

The Chairman and Members of theExecutive Committee(EC) of CISCEcongratulate all Affiliated Schools forhaving carved a niche for themselves atthe National levels of AcademicExcellence!

The schools affiliated to the Council for theIndian School Certificate Examinationshave proved their fine mettle in theNational Achievement survey conductedby NCERT for the first time. This has beenreflected in the ‘Education World’declaring the CISCE as ‘India’s # 1 SchoolExaminations Board’

This achievement is attributed to ourschools who have always upheld the light ofknowledge and wisdom in providingquality education.

May God bless you all in your futureendeavours !

“Before the promotion of GSIS 40 years ago, I thoroughly investigated the relativemerits of the CISCE and CBSE syllabuses before opting for the former. The CISCEboard is fully autonomous, managed by experienced educationists and completelyindependent of government. On the other hand, CBSE is too close to the HRDministry, and controlled by government bureaucrats. I have never agreed with thepopular belief that CBSE-affiliated schools provide better maths and scienceeducation and NAS 2015 confirms this,” says Dr. P.C. Thomas, promoter-principal ofthe Good Shepherd International School (GSIS), Ooty, affiliated with the CISCE, CIE(UK) and IBO (Geneva) examination boards.”

EXCERPTS FROM ‘EDUCATION WORLD’

“I have taught in CBSE and CISCE schools and my experience is that the CISCEsyllabus for English and the humanities is the best of all Indian exam boards becauseit is more liberal and permits schools to choose from suggested textbooks. On theother hand, because the number of CBSE schools is much greater and covers a broadquality spectrum, its syllabus is somewhat levelled down, especially in Englishlearning. However, I am surprised the performance of CBSE students in the mathsand science tests wasn’t better than of CISCE children. This is perhaps because thetextbooks choice of CBSE schools is too restricted. This enables them to do well inexams but not in off-syllabus objective tests” says Sumer Singh, principal of the K-12CBSE-affiliated Daly College, Indore (estb.1882), ranked India’s #1 day-cum-boarding school in the latest Education World India School Rankings 2015, who is inbroad agreement with the conclusions of NAS 2015.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that CISCE-prescribed syllabi tend to be more child-centric and liberal than of CBSE. CISCE school managements have the choice of awider variety of textbooks, accord more emphasis to science practicals and have fullyadopted enquiry-based, experiential learning. On the other hand, CBSE maths andscience syllabi are too heavy, the choice of textbooks is limited to NCERTpublications and this board has strong government links with the result that it hasbecome quite bureaucratic. Moreover, it conducts too many higher education publicexams including the IIT-JEE and consequently has less time for affiliated schools,”says Shomie Das, former headmaster of The Doon School, Dehradun (CISCE), MayoCollege, Ajmer (CBSE) and Lawrence School, Sanawar (CBSE), and arguably themost experienced primary-secondary educationist countrywide.
