En mi carta de la semana pasada, mencioné que estaríamos visi-tando lugares que son importantes en la vida de San Benito y San Francisco de Asís. Uno de los monasterios benedictinos más antiguos se encuentra en un lugar llamado Subiaco. Fue aquí donde San Benito estableció su primer monasterio y donde escribió la regla que según los monjes benedictinos. La imagen es del monasterio de Subiaco. Está construido en el lado de una colina frente a una cueva. La cueva es donde San Benito vivió a principios del siglo VII. El monasterio que está allí ahora fue construido años más tarde. Es una estructura impresionante, pero lo que es más sorprendente es la cueva donde vivió San
Benito que todavía se conserva detrás de las paredes del monasterio.
Además de este monasterio, visitamos otros 2 monasterios benedictinos en Roma, así como la iglesia del Papa San Gregorio Magno que fue influenciado por la espiritualidad de San Benito
Para cuando lean esto, me dirigiré a Asís, de donde es San Francisco. Pasaré varios días allí con los otros sacerdotes en este programa. ADULT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
RITE OF CHRISTIAN
INITIATION FOR ADULTS Adults who are interested in receiving the sacra-ments of Baptism, Eucharist or Confirmation are invited to participate in a faith journey that we refer to as the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.
We are anxious to assist you and help you pre-pare for the sacraments as you deepen your rela-tionship with the Lord.
Anyone interested in these classes should speak to Fr. West, or Mr. Lucero at the rectory.

First Reading — “Why should your wrath blaze up against your own people, whom you brought out of Egypt?” (Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14).

In my letter last week, I mentioned that we would be visiting sights that are important in the lives of St. Benedict and St. Francis of Assisi. One of the oldest Benedictine monasteries is in a place called Subiaco. It was here that St. Benedict estab-lished his first monastery and where he wrote the rule that would be followed by Benedictine monks. The picture is of the monastery in Subiaco. It is built on the side of a hill in front of a cave. The cave is where St. Benedict lived in the early 7th cen-tury. The monastery that is there now was built years later. It is an impressive structure but what is more amazing is the cave
where St. Benedict lived which is still preserved behind the walls of the monastery.
In addition to this monastery, we visited 2 other Benedictine monasteries in Rome as well as the church of Pope St. Gregory the Great who was influenced by the spirituality of St. Benedict.
By the time you read this, I will have made my way to Assisi where St. Francis is from. I will spend several days there with the other priests in this program. It is there we will visit churches that celebrate the memory of St. Francis and St. Clare. Next week I hope to send pictures from there as well as talk a little bit about what we saw.
