PASTOR’S MESSAGE 3

Dear brothers and sisters the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) is beautiful and fruitful act of worship we Catholics give to our heavenly Father. We adore the Holy Eucharist, because Jesus Christ, true God and true Man is present in the consecrat-ed bread. At the Last Supper Jesus distributed the bread and wine, saying: “This is my Body” and “\This is my Blood”, we Catholics believe that the bread and wine are no longer merely baked wheat and fermented grape juice, but the actual living presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the Liturgy of the Mass we express our faith in the real presence of Christ under the species of bread and wine by, among other ways, genuflecting or bowing deeply as a sign of adoration of the Lord. (COCC 1378) “The Catholic Church has always offered and still offers to the sacrament of the Eucharist the Cult of adoration, not only during Mass, but also outside of it, reserving the consecrated hosts with the utmost care, exposing them to the solemn veneration of the faithful, and carrying them in procession.” Blessed Pope Paul VI To prepare for worthy reception of this sacrament, the faithful should observe the fast required in their church. Bodily demeanor (gestures, clothing) ought to convey the respect, solemnity, and joy of this moment when Christ becomes our guest. (COCC 1387) Having passed from this world to the Father, Christ gives us in the Eucharist the pledge of glory with him. Participation in the Holy Sacrifice identifies us with his Heart, sustains our strength along the pilgrimage of this life, makes us long for eternal life, and unites us even now to the Church in heaven, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and all the saints. In the Holy Eucharist we receive the very Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. The Eucharist: Gives us innumerable precious graces. It is an intimate encounter with Christ. Deepens unity with the Church, more fully assim-ilating us into Christ . We sacramentally receive Him into our bodies, that we may be more deeply assimilated into His. Strengthens the individual because it is Jesus Himself, the Word made flesh. Forgives our venial sins and gives us the strength to resist mortal sin. It is the very channel of eternal life. "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink His blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food, and my blood is real drink. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him." (John 6:53) Before receiving the Holy Communion, you must be in a state of grace. "Whoever therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. " (1st Corinthians 11:27) You must believe in the transubstantiation. "For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgement upon himself". (1st Corinthians 11:29) You must observe the Eucharis-tic fast. One who is to receive the Most Holy Eucharist is to abstain from any food or drink, with the exception only of water and medicine, for at least the period of one hour before Holy Communion" Do not forget to give thanks to our Heavenly Father for the Holy Communion: St. Teresa of Ávila urged her daughters not to rush out after Mass but to treasure the opportunity for thanksgiving:" Let us detain ourselves lovingly with Je-sus," she said, "and not waste the hour that follows Communion." St Teresa says that during communion Jesus remains in the soul as on a throne of grace, and says to the soul: "What do you want that I should do to you?" As if saying: "O Christian soul, I am come for the express purpose of giving you my graces. Ask what you wish and you shall obtain it". Father Mariano Varela, IVE

Construction Projects

Widmer Shot-crete Solu-tions, from Lakeville, will be installing a new lime-stone looking carved con-crete wall over the existing limestone wall between the upper and lower back parking lots. The old wall has been deteriorating at an accelerated rate the last couple of years. This pro-

ject will take about 3 weeks. Schwab Washing from Eagle Lake will be cleaning and sealing the outside col-umns on the church in the next couple of weeks to keep the water from eroding the columns. These projects are being paid for out of our savings account that is funded from generous bequests and part of the rental income from Kato Public Charter School.

Abortion, consequently, cannot be a human right-it is the very opposite. It is a deep wound in society. ~Pope Benedict XVI, September 7, 2007
