Corey Brown leads the way with 2 touchdowns, adding to 2 interceptions the from ‘Canes Defense and a stellar performance from QB Alex Haupert. ++9 April 2017++ The Saarland Hurricanes traveled on Sunday to Cologne for exhibition play vs. the Cologne Crocodiles of the GFL North and came home with a win. The day started off well for the ‘Canes as the offense scored on their first two possessions and the defense also forced punts from the Crocodiles offense leading to a 20:9 halftime lead. After the midway point both teams started mixing in personnel and trying out different facets of their offenses and defenses, to get live looks vs. an opponent before season play. “It was a good weekend. We got live looks at a lot of things and we needed that. Everybody got to play today which was also important. Driving home with a win is always nice too.” – Paul Motzki, Defensive Coordinator Highlights of play from starting units were: two interceptions from the Defense, Jason Thompson drawing first blood on a deep reception from Alex Haupert, two dazzling touchdown scampers from Corey Brown and an illusive scramble for 50 yards to the end zone from QB Alex Haupert. Kicker, Philip Gabel also added three successful PATs and one FG from over 30 yards out. “It felt real good real nice to score twice against a discipline and physical defense. I love that Alex trust in me and gets me the ball to make plays I feel dangerous when the ball is in my hands… I had fun running around and can't wait to do it again.” – Corey Brown With that final preseason test the Hurricanes go into preparation for their season opener in Munich against the Cowboys who finished 5-9 in GFL play last year and split with the Hurricanes (38-13, 12-40).
