bait.

A stubborn Manchester defended tightly at theback during first half frustrating Lions as theystopped them at playing their normal creativegameplay from midfield.

With Lions already starting the season withouta goal, and having lost to Gibraltar UnitedManchester's strong defensive play, and Lionsseeming lack of ideas to get into the penaltyarea saw Lions were forced to opt to shootingfrom outside the area to their detriment.Manchester for their part were content inbreaking forward on the counter attack

The first half finishedscoreless immediately onresuming play Manchesterhad a goal disallowed foroffside showing that they posed a threatupfront.

With Manchester keepingtheir structure at the backLions continued to be heldback in the last quarter, unable to reach goal.

Manchester continued theirgameplan with quick breaks, forcing Lions to run back asthey reached the oppositionpenalty area, with the Lionskeeper again keeping Lions

goal intact for the time being.

It was only whenManchester started to stepforward and actually take thegame to Lions that theclearest chance dideventually come for Lions,on a break. Macedo, whoreturned to the Manchesterside was forced to parryfrom close range, pushingthe ball across goal as Lionsnumber nine broke throughthe one man defence leftfrom theri attack.

Manchester returned to keeptheir game of frustrating theopposition and after severalcontroversial calls and cardsthe focus turned to the Lionsbench as a frustratedmanager reacted to both thecrowd and comments fromthe opposition bench. The

The off-the-field mood ofLions soon translated to theLions team who crumbledunder the pressure andfrustrations caused byManchester's tactics.

Although Lionsseemed to have most of thepossession of the ball, andmaintained pressure onManchester, it wasManchester's attacks thatposed the most threats togoal, forcing several goodsaves and interventions fromthe Lions Polish keeper.

As frustration deepenedwithin the Lions ranks, anunnecessary harsh tacklefrom Green at the edge ofthe Manchester penalty areasaw the official hand ayellow, and as playerspushed each other, the redcard for his second yellowwas shown to the sameplayer.

With Lions now on the backfoot Manchester opted tobring in JP Duarte onto thepitch after several weeks ofabsence. The match soon turned intoa scrappy affair toManchester's delight, Lions

losing the focus and lookedthe least likely to score.

Manchester gained threevaluable points, their secondconsecutive victory. Lionsremained scoreless losingfurther valueable points.

Europalose groundat the top

The few enthusiasts andsupporters of Europa and StJoseph's attending theVictoria Stadium thisSunday were treated to an

exciting and surprising match whichsaw Europa drop three valueablepoints in their attempt to keep withindistance of Lincoln.

St Joseph's took the lead within the firstquarter of an hour, only to see themlosing it as Europa pushed forward andequalised.

Joseph's scored a second puttingfurther pressure on Europa. Withtensions rising, and St Joseph'sthreatening in their counterattacks, abreak away from St Joseph's sawEuropa lose one of their players fora tackle from behind to break theattack. With just ten men Europa'smatch was destined to be an uphillstruggle.Coming out for the second half,Europa did not hesitate in attackingSt Joseph who were content instanding back and playing on thecounter attack. Such was thepressure from the ten man Europa, that even the St Joseph's benchcould be heard calling on theirplayers to push up more as itseemed it was "them with oneplayer less."Europa's pressure, however, leftthem vulnerable at the backexposing their flanks. Although StJoseph's counter attacked their lackof foresight to use the right flankmeant that Europa were able tocontain the attacks. It was only asthe match reached its finale that anover exposed Europa defence founditself on the backfoot with three StJoseph's players breaking throughwith no defence in position.Inevitably the breakthrough ended inSt Joseph's slotting in their third. The defeat means that Europa arenow six points behind Lincoln, withthe title now exclusively in the handsof Lincoln who have yet to lose amatch this season.

FootballLincoln demonstrated thereasons why they continue atthe top of the table scoring inthe very first few minutes ofthe match against a Lynx sidewho showed no fear of facingthe champs.Although having lost 4-0 intheir first encounter thisseason, Lynx came outattacking with the very firstattacking ball coming fromLynx. However, the tableswere turned within secondswhen Chipolina struck fromthe left flank hitting the ballsquarely past Robba'sfurthers top corner.Lynx responded by takingthe match to Lincoln, the newnumber ten from AlgecirasSantos making his debutshow his strength in runningby joining with Doxagarat tothreaten Lincoln's penaltyarea. In a match full of intensityLynx were not frightened ofLincoln and pressed them upfront giving Lincoln fewchances to venture forwardor control the game undertheir terms during the firsthalf.Lincoln started the secondhalf imposing their rhythm tothe game playing fast acrosswings and controllingpossession. and started to make Lynx chase the ball.Lynx who needed to score were caught onthe counter on numerous occasions, onlyfor them to counter themselves.Exciting match as Lynx continued todefend solidly and press on Lincoln tryingbreak their game and play their own style. The match seemed to have reached aturning point when Casciaro (R) was sendoff after pulling down a player breakingthrough onto goal and getting his secondyellow. With just sixteen minutes to go it seemedLynx, who were playing their own powergame would have the advantage withLincoln one man short.Instead of holding back Lincoln seemedto have been injected with newdetermination and instead continued theirgame plan forcing Lynx to chase the ball.Cabrera broke down left running into areaand striking it past Robba for the 2-0, asecond goal that seemed to break thespirits of Lynx who had battled hard forthe equaliser. Moments later Robba waslucky that an attempt to lob the ball overhim fell straight into his hands. The match came to an end with Lincolntaking all three points and maintainingtheir lead at the top with their 2-0 win, even with ten men.Even with Lincoln riding high the weekended with speculation over the future ofAnthony Bardon. Reports emerged that hewill be leaving the current reigningchampions with both the player and theclub coming to a mutual agreement for hisrelease. Lincoln had already announced that ex-Malaga left winger Antonio Calderon hasofficially become a Lincoln player.

Britannia keep Angels in relegationtrouble

The Britannia v Angels match didnot bring many surprises, accen-tuating the deficiencies in Angelswhich is likely to see them rele-gated directly as they seemed in-

capable of turning around Britannia.

The only surpise in the Angels Britanniamatch was the player agent for St Josephpresent at the match with a Korean player intow who is believed to be joining Britannia'

Angels started play with their backs to thewall. It took Britannia just ten minutes beforethey broke through and Onega slotted thefirst in with ease. The ease in scoring the first seemed to slowdown Britannia, rather than excite them, be-coming unconvincing with Angels taking ad-vantage of Britannia's lack of enthusiasm intrying to break through again.

Angels pushed forward for most of the next

part of the first half, and it was not until Ten mins in breaking through Britanniabeats angels defence line to slot it in withease

After scoring first Britannia had a spell of notconvincing with angels trying to take advan-tage and pushing Britannia back. It was notuntil Alt dribbled past several defenders atthe edge of the box, and run into the penaltyarea to "dink" the ball past Mateo that Britan-nia didn't seem to wake up again. A 2-0scoreline at half time was as predictable asyou could get a scoreline. The half time break did little for Britanniawho came out with a lack of intensity andsaw Angels push them back, not through effi-ciency but through the lack of effort in Britan-nia's play.Britannia had most of the possession buttheir characteristic power pace and runninggame was not seen opting for a slower buildup. This suited Angels keeping the scoredown.

Angels had a few hitting the crossbar andseveral wide shots at goal.

As the match went on and Britannia sawthat they were actually being pushed backinto their own area, due mainly to their owngame play which was allowing Angels toplay, Britannia responded hitting the post andthen having a ball cleared off the line.

The score was brought to a more reason-able realistic score, considering thestrengths of Britannia against that of Angelswith Onega once again breaking through theright flank and scoring from inside the sixyard box. The final score, Britannia 3-0 An-gels.

Gib Utd take relegationsafety points

In a match in which GlacisUnited and GibraltarUnited battled for value-able points which wouldkeep them safe from rele-gation, it was GibraltarUnited who came out thewinner. A hard drawn outbattle between two of thebottom clubs saw end toend excitement, harshtackling, two very differentstyles of football, and 12yellow cards.

It was Gibraltar whoscored the first. Pressingup front and pushingGlacis back whilst nothaving possession forcedthe first error of Glaciswho conceded a foul. Aswinging ball going acrossgoal saw Glacis clawingfor the ball unsuccessfully, with Robert Montoviocoming in at the back postand volleying the ball intothe back of the net.

Glacis maintained posses-sion as Gibraltar Unitedtightened at the back tokeep them out. The firsthalf finished with Gibraltar

United ahead.

The second half started much inthe same way as the first hadfinished, with Glacis pushing for-ward, Gibraltar United defendingin block, and Glacis missing thefew chances they had.

Once again a quick break fromthe back for Gib Utd led to an-other corner. A beautifully placedcross was headed in to the topcorner with Gib Utd taking thelead to 2-0.

From this point on it was backsto the wall for Gib Utd, who de-fended in block and kept theirattacks to break -aways. As timewent on Glacis United seemedto slowly lose their grip on thegame with their players arguingamongst each other. Most no-table was the goalkeepers argu-ment with his coach . Aseemingly injured keeper calledon his bench to substitute himthe refusal to do so saw theplayer shout at his bench, "orme saca o me voy" (you eitherreplace me or I leave". The argument thencontinued as the player approached thetouchline to speak to his manager as playwent on.

Gibraltar United for its part were unable tomake anything out of the disruption in theGlacis team, instead they seemed to defendin total chaos, swarming on players. Thetensions and tough tackling between bothteams lead to a flurry of yellow cards, 12 intotal shown during the match. One of themgoing to Glacis goalkeeper who had startedto argue with Montovio within earshot of thereferee, further adding to his woes. Thekeeper playing as if a sweeper, rather than akeeper positioning himself whilst Glacis at-tacked close to the halfway line, more thanonce caught out as Gib Utd tried to unsuc-

cessfully lob the ball over him.

Glacis eventually broke through following aflying save by El Chino, Gibraltar United'skeeper. A shot from outside the area saw thekeeper stretching to make a one-handedsave and conceding a corner. A sweetlystruck corner received a similar strike to thetop corner reducing Gibraltar United lead tojust one goal. Gib Utd were able to hold onby the skin of their teeth to take all threepoints. The winner knowing that they weresecuring their place against their closestleague rivals at the bottom of the table.Gibraltar United are now nine points clear ofGlacis Utd. The postponed match betweenthe two earlier in the season now less signif-icant as Gibraltar widened the gap betweenthe two.

Rock CupBrunos Convincein First half totake itIt was a game of two halvesfor Brunos Magpies. The firsthalf the Magpies controlledthe pace of the game and werethe more aggressive of thetwo. Their determination andpace paying off well as theyscored three in the first 45minutes.Half time seemed to havezapped the energy out of theMagpies as Cannon took pos-session of the match and tookone goal back. The magpieswere being caught in defenceby the Cannons who pushedthem back. However, with therain pouring down, and as theminutes ticked playersseemed to become more andmore demoralised, the Mag-pies held on to win 3-1 andenter the next round.

Football Interview

All sports have their colourfulcharacters, and football is nodifferent. One of theseemerging characters is JoelRichard Williams, for many theeditor/publisher of 5point4, for

others the head coach of second divisionBruno Magpies.

Neither role necessarily brings to him greatfriends, but one cannot disguise the fact that

love him or hate him Joel very muchrepresents a changing face of football inwhich the endeavours of characters such ashim will bring some of the changes.

As head coach of Brunos he is one of ahandful of local managers still left on ourfields. His style of management from thetouchline has seen him gain friends andenemies, but it’s a style that throughout thepast few months, in his first stint as head

I am as thick skinned ascan be!

coach, has seen hisside change, andonly this weekbrush aside anothersecond divisionside from the RockCup to get to thenext stage.

In his role asreporter for 5point4,Joel has gained areputation forspeaking out hismind, and saying itas it is, even thoughthis has not beenmet by smiles fromeveryone. His5point4 onlinepublication causingenough waves tohave already seen18,000 likes in hisfacebook page (notan easy feat even for marketing gurus's inGibraltar.)

We caught up with Joel after the Brunos cuptie against Cannon, not an easy feat in itself, with the first scheduled interview beingpostponed after Joel demonstrated whatcame first, his team rather than his ownexposure to the public.

Core - This was your first cup experience asfirst team manager. How did it feel?

Joel - It was an exciting game for myselfand also the team as we got our first tasteof cup football for the year. For mepersonally it was great, just like it is anyother game, to be on the touchline and livethis experience I'm currently living.

Core- Now that the Rock Cup winners, even

if a division twoside, can reachthe Europeanrounds whichmeans asubstantial cashincentive do youthink teams aretaking the cupgames moreseriously?

Joel - I can'tspeak for otherteams but I canguarantee thatas head coachof FCB MagpiesI will always putthe strongestteam availableto me at everygame, whetherit's a cup gameor a league

game. Football is about winning games, sofor all I'm concerned we could be playinga friendly and I'll still want to winregardless of the opposition. I agree thatnow, perhaps with Europa League placesup for grabs the Rock Cup is an attractiveproposition and I guess each team willlook at it that way; I know I certainly do!

Core - Magpies won their first cup experiencewith you as manager. On hindsight would you have done things differently?

Joel - At all. We won the game andreached the next round and the mostpleasing aspect of this for me was that weutilised the squad. The season is a longone so rotating is key if you want to keepplayers fit and healthy and we did just thatvs Cannons and it paid dividends. Icouldn't be any happier if I'm honest...

Core - The magpies seemed to collapse andfall flat when it came to focusing on the gamein the second half? Any reason why thishappened?

Joel - I agree wholeheartedly with you thatour second half performance was poor incomparison to the first. We still createdplenty of chances but couldn't quite findthe net so this did put a dent on ourbrilliant first half performance. We have tobe careful with these situations and ifCannon's had been sharper on the day wecould well be speaking about a defeattoday. The reasons? I think tired legsstarted kicking in, perhaps players grewoverconfident with the comfortable resultwe had and started forgetting the basicsof football. This has been addressed inour training sessions this week sohopefully we won't succumb to thesemistakes again...

Core - Considering this was against a seconddivision side, now that you might meet a firstdivision side next what do you expect yourteam to do better?

Joel - It's actually quite funny but I thinkwe tend to struggle against the "so called"smaller sides and its trickier to negotiateties like these because the team, aspreviously mentioned, might getoverconfident and, lose focus and forgetthe basics of our style of football. We didshow in pre season that playing againstthe big boys doesn't faze us and the resultwe had against Lions raised plenty ofeyebrows. What playing "big team" doesto us is actually positive: we focus muchmore on the game and play the football weknow we can play!

Core - The Magpies seem set not to rise thisseason to the first division unless someresults change. Will this be a setback for you?

Page 58: Coresportgib- GIbraltar's weekly sports review magazine - issue 2 - 14th January 2016

Joel - Promotion was not on the cards thisseason although media pundits aroundGibraltar actually were very generouswhen they tipped us as promotioncandidates. Of course it would beincredible if we did get promoted and evenbeen in the mix for promotion is a sweetfeeling for Magpies and their loyalhardcore fans. We can't forget our rootsthough and where this club was last year;In my point of view this year was always atransitional year, the year in which weimplemented our philosophies, our styleof play and acted responsibly within ourlimits . I like to compare this project withthe construction of a house; thefoundations have to be created for thehouse to be stable and this is exactly thesame thing. The foundations are been laidas we speak and I'm of the view that beforerunning we should learn how to crawl.Step by step, things have to be done rightin order to progress and if this means onemore year in Second Division then so be

it.

Core - Will you be building on your firstmanagerial season experience and stay withthe Magpies?

Joel - Like I said previously, this is a longterm project. I'm lucky enough to have achairman who shares the same views asmyself and is determined and keen to dothings right. It is essential to havecontinuity in a football team so it's adefinite yes from me. I'm absolutely lovingevery minute of this challenge...

Core - How tough is it, with some teamsseemingly investing heavily to reach the firstdivision? Or are you one of those teamsyourselves considering the seeminglyresolute backing from your board of directors?

Joel - Football is money, let's not kidourselves here! Where ever there ismoney players will go and sign and with

Page 59: Coresportgib- GIbraltar's weekly sports review magazine - issue 2 - 14th January 2016

clubs in the Premier and Second Divisioninvesting heavily it is getting harder andharder by the year to compete at the toplevel. Even now we are seeing teams likeGlacis and Angels suffer due to lack offinancial resources at their disposal. LikeI said previously, I am lucky enough tohave a chairman who is extremelydedicated, passionate and willing to seethe club progress in every way shape andform.

Core - Will we be seeing many changes forthis next stage of the season?

Joel - Changes are part and parcel offootball although, like I have said before, continuity is key and essential in a footballteam. Those teams who regularly chopand change managers or players mightsucceed in the short term but thosefoundations will never whether the stormsapproaching, metaphysically speaking. Idon't envisage many changes, I'mdelighted with the group of players wehave and although there have been tweaksduring the season, it is only natural whenplayers leave. This is, at the end of the day, part and parcel of football...

Core - As a manager you seem to be one ofthe more vociferous on the pitch, this attractsboth good and bad attention. Do you mind?

Joel - I am as thick skinned as can be! Ihave received threats and insults due tomy journalism career so it doesn't reallyfaze me when people shout from thestands. Most of the time those people whodo shout abuse or negative commentsfrom the stands are those people who onlywish they were able to do what you do! Iam very vociferous and outspoken, I haveconducted my journalism career in asimilar fashion and there are those whowill mock this approach but the vastmajority will, in fact, respect the job onedoes. Most importantly though is therespect one gets from the players and

from opposing coaches; that is ultimatelywhat counts for me!

Core - You personally are heavily involved in5point4, which we understand is your littlebaby. But what comes first, the team or yourpersonal job? As a publisher, and one whodoes not aim to be just the nice guy, but theone who says it as it is, I take it this gets youa lot of negative reactions to you. How do youbalance being a manager and having to do ajob which doesn't necessarily get you friendsall the time?

Joel - Now that is a question I was hopingto avoid (he laughs). It's a question ofhaving the ability to change hats wheneverthe occasion dictates. When I write Ialways strive to be honest in everything Iportray whether it has been a positiveresult for my team or a negative one. Ipersonally don't shy away from this andhave, after every defeat congratulated theopposing team. When I coach I have mycoaching hat on. One must balance thethin line between being a manager and ajournalist...It's a tricky one but one I'mcoping with well at the moment!

Could Perico beLions newinvestment into thefuture?Lions this week announced the signing of Perico, formerly of Greek side Panachaiki F.C., a seconddivision side.

Perico was this year listed as unattached in atransfer market website since December 3rd, thesame website also showing that in the last threeyears he has been involved in several freetransfers. Having gone from Elche to Gimnastic,Cadiz, and Larissa before ending up at PanachaikiF.C., where he played in midfield. The Greek sidehave this winter let go nine of their players, actively involved in the transfer market.

Perico's record could be hailed a shrewd financialacquisition for the future of Lions, not just afootball acquisition. Valued at £175,000 in thetransfer market, once having been valued at£560,000, Perico is the type of investment that ifhis performances set sights on him for futureinterest by outside clubs, the sale of the playercould provide a foundation block into the futurefor Lions.

Whilst the team highlight the interest in the playerin football terms, the presence of new owners, once themselves at the centre of an attempt tobuy Leeds United makes the acquisition ofPerico's as an interesting focal point into Lionsdevelopment and intent for the future. Somethingthe new owners highlighted in the summer whentaking over the club.

On the 13th Decemberathletics had a great morning inLa Linea with participation in the"Inmaculada Carrrera Popular".A total of eleven Lourdian'sathletes took part in the event a7.5km for seniors/masters andshorter distances for youngercategories. The finals

The Blue stars Under 14started the week well forBlue Stars taking the first ofthe many finals Blue Starsteams would be playing. Both Europa and Blue Starstarted the match with a lowscoring ratio during the firstquarter, with the score at 4-2 for Blue stars before thesecond quarter started.A quick pep talk suddenlysaw the Blue Stars explodeinto action and runningaway with the lead 21-4.Europa found it hard to findthe basket, with Blue Starsgiving away few chancesand taking most of the pos-session of play.

The under 14 matches, al-though a tactical nightmarefor the coaches as theyhave to ensure no oneplayer plays more than 3consecutive quarters waswell managed by both man-agers, although the BlueStars with the smaller inHeight numbers on thecourt maintained a goodcomposure and assurancein their play across allzones.

The Blue Stars eventuallywon by 37-18 taking the firstof the basketball trophiesthis week.

The finals

The depth in strength of BlueStars, with a bench twice thenumber of the Bayside Argusteam themselves proved tobe as significant as the factthat Blue Stars are an estab-lished Basketball teamacross all categories. The match started with thefirst few minutes provingtense game with quick pass-ing and attacks but neitherteam giving way keeping thescore level between the two.Blue Stars soon settled

enough to ensure that on the5th minute they had createda small gap between them-selves and Bayside on the

scoreboard. They maintained the slenderlead playing quick passes asopposed to Bayside who re-lied more on individual skillsto get to the basket. Thisproved effective for Baysideon many occasions as theycould get under the basketmore whilst Blue Stars werefrequently forced to seeklong throws to basket whenthe Bayside defence was inplace. The First quarter saw Bluestars lead by 18-17.In the second quarter Blues

Stars kept their slender lead,Bayside responding shot for

shot and pressing forwardwith confidence. However, the reliance on individualskill more than a global teamapproach saw Blue starsbegin to press harder onBayside and extended theirlead to 39-29. In the thirdquarter Bayside fell back onthe scoreboard and sawBlue Stars take the dominantrole in the match. The widening gap in thescoreboard saw Blue Starsstart playing a player furtherforward on occasions. Theytore away from defence intoattack placing themselves 30points in front at times as

they countered with quick widepassed forward. Bayside showinggreat strength to maintain a rhythmtrying to catch up but unable to do soas the match entered the latterstages. The third quarter ended in 68-40.Bayside took advantage in the lastquarter of the Blues Stars own confi-dence in trying to play more freestylewith some creative passing. BlueStars used their bench to good effect, but even with Bayside tiring they con-tinued to shorten the distance on thescoreboard, only seeing it widen againas in the last minutes Blue Star sawsome of the stronger players fielded, already refreshed. The final scorebeing 80-65 to Blue Stars.

Titans more of a Titanicthan Herculean againstLynx

Lynx were by far the better of the twoteams. Having reached 9-0 in the earlypart of the second half they slowed

down their normal fast passing game givingthe Titans all the opportunity to score. Lynxfailing to provide themselves with a scoringchance for some 8 mins before notchingtheir tenth.

Lynx who came to the match after beingbeaten by Glacis played to their ownstrengths, and did not allow Gibraltar Titansto decide the pace. The pairing of Lynxverses Gibraltar Titans, showed thedifference between divisions. A herculeaneffort to shorten the score saw the Titansscore once. Lynx nonetheless came outwinners by 15-1.

GarethFlower,making hisreturn tohockeystood out as

the lone man of experiencein a Grammarians B sidewith school kids across thefield of play.

The cup game was to turnout to be the men againstthe boys, but it was the boyswho eventually came out ontop.

Collegians were likewatching the 90's Gibraltarhockey league return to thesport with the veteran teamfielding players whoseheyday was back in the 90's,many themselves havingcome up from the boyhoodranks to play Europeanhockey.

The first chance of thegame came to the boys froma short corner. Soon afterCollegians had their chance. The skill and experience ofveterans beating the pace ofyouthfulness in an attempt atgoal. This was to be themain format of the match asboys and men clashed headto head at an equal basis, neither underestimating theother, or feeling intimidatedby the other.

The Grammarians boysscored first after an umpire

decision left Collegiansclaiming wrongdoing. Theveterans were not to beoutclassed and soon cameback with an equaliser froma short corner. Grammariansboys, having lost the leadpushed forward and scoredagain, and the again to bringthe game to three one.

The boys, playing on theirstrength soon found that theveterans were not going toplay ball and through powerplay, skill and tacticalbullying brought the score to3-2 at half time.

Another veteran from the90's Nathan Stagno, now aworld renowned umpire wasalso on the bench butrepresenting Grammarians

boys. The second halfstarted with Stagnobecoming a focal point as hedisputed rulings by theumpires. As the off-field playsaw Grammarians boyscomplaining of decisions itwas the veterans who tookadvantage. A miss hit byAdrian Hernandez trickling into the back of the goal forthe equaliser. As both teams seemed tobe heading to a draw it wasGrammarians who forcedplay to slot one in for thewinner. The veterans losingout to their own mistakes oftaking their eye of the ballafter a failed short corner, and whilst arguing amongstthemselves the boys scoringthe winning goal.

Six nil up after half time, Hawks ladies slowed downto a near halt, but not enough to let Grammariansgirls continue to feel the experience of beinghammered by experience.

Grammarians Girls, who were once Hawks, werepresented with a lesson in how experience, discipline and power play can out play enthusiasmand pace on the day. Grammarians had to field aweaker side than normal due to some players, including their keeper missing on the day.

Brave though they were, the young Grammariansteam were no match to Hawks who controlled thepace of the game throughout, to the point of pushingforward and scoring when they felt they had laidback too much. The Grammarians girls were, however, no walk over, keeping on tapping at thedoor throughout the match, although unable toscore.

Stick to stick the veteran ladies from Hawks hadgreater power and skill, discipline across the pitch, overcoming the opposition by setting the pace andplaying across the field rather than running after theball. Grammarians found themselves chasing notjust the match but the ball. An 8-0 score line told thewhole story of what the match was all about on theday.

The score line on the day did not reflect the qualityof the Grammarians girls who have held the Hawksto 1-0 in the past, however, they were outplayed andoutclassed on the day by the sheer power play ofHawks who should be justly credited for a superbperformance.

Credit should also be given to Hawks keeper whoplayed throughout injured. The keeper, who did nothave too much to do in many parts of the game, wasfound to be very static. especially towards the end ofthe match. CoreSportGib has since learnt that thekeeper is now out injured and on crutches aftersustaining a leg injury just moments into the start ofthe match.
