   KOKAKO NEWSO R O P I S C H O O L N E W S L E T T E R T E R M 4 W E E K 6

I am pleased to provide you all with an update

of staffing related matters for 2020. Those

who were at the meetings last week will be

aware of teacher placements and class levels.

Details are on the next page.

The new classrooms nearest the field (to be

located where the PE shed is) will be ready

before the new classrooms on the front field.

The classes that will go into the two new

classrooms at the front of the school will be

Mrs King and Rachelle Hodgson's classes.

Our new teachers are Rachelle, Anna, and

Emma Norton.

Kia ora koutouRachael Heath remains at Oropi School as the

Reading Recovery Teacher, and teacher for ORS

students. Tanya Benge will be on leave for 12

months, and Amy Oswald will be on maternity

leave.

As explained at the parent consultation meetings,

our teams will be re-named and here is the

outcome of that. We are naming the teams after

the mountains, according to local legend which is

very fitting as part of our goals to help educate

students regarding turangawaewae.

Otanewainuku - for the senior team, as

Otanewainuku is the chief

Puwhenua for the middle team, as she is of

middle stature out of the three mountains

Mauao - for the junior team, as Mauao was the

youngest (potiki)

As I am sure you will all appreciate, there is a lot of

thinking around all of this and we have the best

interests of our students at heart, particularly with

class placements.

As the Principal, the next area to be working on

will be part-time teacher and support staff hours

and roles, along with the budget and putting the

pieces together, based on feedback, for our 2020

Annual Plan. I will communicate these details at a

later stage. Thank you for your contributions to

date.

The bush area by the staff carpark is about to be

reinstated with about 300 more shrubs and trees

thanks to Naturally Native and Heron, who will

be coordinating groups of students to plant there

so we have this greenspace back like it was.

colours? PODs Kate and Sophia. Special award to

Chloe. Thanks to the parents who could help with

transport and supervision.

Garden to TableThis week Korimako, Te Kokako and Tui

were helping with clearing out some of the

winter-vegetable beds, so in the kitchen we

made good use of leeks, beetroot, fennel,

broccoli, cabbage, carrots and some spring

broad beans to make patties, relish and

coleslaw.

In the garden this week we planted

aubergine, beans, squash and rainbow beets

and prepared beds for planting more

summer vegetables next week. Te Kokako

were rained on so we sheltered in the

classroom and made seedling pots out of

newspaper that can be planted directly into

the garden.

Rippa RugbyBrenda's Farewell

Any past and present families and friends of Oropi

Playgroup are invited to come and farewell

Brenda on Sun 1st Dec, 2 pm at the Oropi Hall.

Please bring a plate of food to share. We will

provide a sausage sizzle later in the

afternoon, and some fun activities for the kids. Also

please bring along any photos from your time at

Playgroup for our photo board.

This week we had a cross-pool game with

Maungatapu Servals. They were a tough team and

beat us 8-4.  Player of the day went to James, three

games in and he scored his first try! Well done, you

are really getting into the game. Good job by

Jasper who scored the rest of our tries.

The Korimako Rippa team have seen lots of

changes to the team lately so we had to recruit

Phoenix to complete the team. Tauranga Primary

took the win 8 - 4. It was a great game with lots of

ball time for everyone. Special thanks to Lewis for

helping out the kids on the field. This helped their

confidence immensely and everyone really

enjoyed the game. Player of the day was Blake.
