TRADITIONAL CAMPGrades 1st- 10th

Coppercreek Camp is the quintessential summer camp. We are nestled in the large pines under the watchful eye of “Indian Head Peak”. The campers play outdoors all day, share meals, watch the stars come out and snuggle in their sleeping bags with the soulful sound of Taps in their ears. Our entire staff, from directors to program leaders to counselors, know every camper and work hard to assure they go home standing a little taller and smiling a little wider.

FREE CHOICE Each day campers select their activities from a wide range of choices and arrange their schedule depending on what excites them. Some activities with specific safety ratios, such as the equestrian program or the High Ropes Course, are scheduled in advance but most activities, campers can pick each hour. We are always available to assist campers with building their perfect day. Every session includes special events such as carnivals, theme dinners, all Camp Jam, and dress up party nights. Once a session, every cabin group camps out for a night of s’mores, star gazing, story telling and singing around the campfire.

Our equestrian program is one of the finest in traditional summer camps. All of our instructors are certified through the Certified Horsemanship Association and our class ratios are 1:3. Campers take lessons 6 days a week and in the afternoons, can sign up for a Specialty Program such as: miniature horse driving, vaulting, Saddle Club, and mini workshops. We have a mix of wonderfully trained and seasoned horses from the patient, older beginner horse to the feisty, jumping pony. Our facility is clean, beautiful and cared for with the safety and happiness of our horses and riders in mind.

MINIATURE HORSESCampers learn how to drive our minis as well as have fun playing in obstacles and jumping the minis in hand.

VAULTINGCampers work together to learn basic vaulting moves all splashed with their own creativity to produce a fabulous program for our Talent Show each session.

CHA RIBBONS Our campers follow the same CHA certification program our staff do to earn their ribbons for each level obtained.

CLINICS Our staff teach a variety of short work shops based on camper ’s interest. In the past, we have had lunging, show braiding, baking horse treats, natural horsemanship lessons and much more.

BARN RATSAny camper taking lessons (and going into 5th grade) can be a “Rattie”. They spend all morning at the barn helping get horses ready, vetting, grooming, lunging, assisting other campers in their lessons, and making sure our horses are getting the proper amount of daily kisses and carrots.

Waterfront:standup paddle boarding, waterskiing, kayaking, canoeing

We offer a variety of waterfront activities to keep everyone cool and engaged. Our pool is open every afternoon (and some mornings) for free swim, kayaking skills, and special events. The campers can choose to go to Lake Almanor several times a session to wakeboard, waterski or play with our standup paddleboards. We have three ponds on our property for bass and blue gill fishing, hunts for “Elvis”, the ginormous bull frog, or to just relax and feed the ducks. In the evenings, campers can go canoeing on Round Valley Reservoir to hunt for the hidden beaver house or decorate their boats in water lilies. Our kayaking program begins with learning “wet exits” and mastering the “eskimo roll” before venturing out to Indian Creek for some mellow moving water practice.

We offer these activities several times each day so c a mp e r s h av e m a ny o p p o r t u n i t i e s t o participate or return if t h e y l o v e i t . S m a l l Animals is open each morning and afternoon so the campers can feed, hold and care for our baby animals. Mountain biking rides are split into beginner, intermediate and advanced rides. Our skateboarding staff will teach the total beginner or “drop-in” with the pros.

The Arts: music, dance, drama, art

Voices sing along with guitars and drums in daily music jams. You will find music happening almost anywhere in camp from a pick-up session to scheduled lessons. The final two days of each session ends with the much loved Talent Show and drama production. We have our Art Gala where all the beautiful pieces of work made by the campers are displayed and sparkling cider, crackers and cheese are served. Our evening is completed with a wild dress up party where ever yone boogies away.

Ropes:Ropes Course, Low Ropes, rock climbing, TAPS (Thin Air Patrol)

Campers going into 6th grade may sign up for the Ropes Course. We have over ten elements with two ziplines. All of our campers are eligible for our climbing wall which is open everyday. Campers who want to immerse themselves in climbing can join our TAPS program where they learn how to tie the necessary knots, belay each other and proper climbing fundamentals. Campers who master the TAPS requirements can go on an overnight climbing trip near Lassen National Park the second week of the session.

Every Friday night, we host a theme party. We have been entertained by Super Hero’s, cowboys, robots, fairies, neon dancers, hippies, pajama clad campers and every character imaginable. Twice a week, our dinners are spiced with a colorful cabin competition of “Dress Up Your Counselor” or maybe “Crazy Hat Night”. We even had a Murder Mystery Dinner where counselors were dropping all around us until the campers figured out the dastardly person behind the crimes. We head to our creek the first Wednesday of every session for Outpost Night featuring s’mores and storytelling by the campfire. The second Thursday, we have a silly all camp event.; perhaps, it is Carnival, Camp Jam, the Dutch Auction, or Wacky Olympics. No matter the day, we stay entertained, creative, happy and busy.

Coppercreek provides a variety of leadership programs whether it is working with younger campers or adventuring into the back country. Our leadership programs are hugely popular.

COUNSELORS IN TRAINING

Older campers are given the opportunity to develop leadership skills through assisting counselors at activities, within cabin groups, or leading peers in workshop challenges. CIT’s can choose to be a general CIT and work in all aspects of camp life or become a Junior Instructor and focus skill building in one specific area. We have had Junior Instructors in equestrian, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, waterfront, drama and art. Either track provides plenty of personal development and meaningful experiences. All CIT’s work with younger campers everyday.

The CIT’s have their own directors making sure each CIT is having fun and reaching their potent ia l . The d irectors p lan workshops on child development, leadership skills, behavior management, and group dynamics. Several times a session, there are “teen only” social functions scheduled so all

the teenagers, including TREK, can just hang out with each other. The CIT program operates completely within Traditional Camp.

TREK

Trek is a dynamic, co-ed, teen leadership program designed around adventure and fun. Eleven teens, along with their trained and dedicated leaders, explore caves, wilderness areas, and river systems all while working on communication, group dynamics and leadership. They become a close knit group of friends by the end, with many memories, photos and new skills. We believe in the powerful, positive energy our youth bring to this world and revel in watching it come together during Trek.

JUNIOR COUNSELORS

The culmination of our leadership series is our Junior Counselor program. Once a Coppercreek teen has successfully completed at least four weeks of either CIT or TREK (or both), and is either going into 12th grade or just completed it, our CIT Directors will recommend the candidate to return as an unpaid intern serving as a junior counselor to our staff. The JC’s are the cream of the crop and many are hired as paid staff once they are in college.

Since 1965, Coppercreek Camp has been home to many campers and staff; a place where people become family and relax in the beauty of nature. We believe the things that set us apart from other camps are: free choice of many different exciting activities, a counseling staff with an average age of 23, a great equestrian program, targeted teen leadership programs and a pace allowing everyone time to relax, yet, still challenge themselves daily.

CAMP LIFE

Our facility sits on over 200 acres and is surrounded by thousands of acres of national forest or private forested land. We have two showerhouses with hot water and flush toilets. We eat under a covered dining deck, with food prepared in a commercial kitchen and served by some of the friendliest and talented cooks around. We serve wholesome food, featuring a hot breakfast everyday and a salad bar at every lunch and dinner. Each session features Craig’s famous SHE DON’T COOK bar-be-que night full of country music, costumes and finger licking good food. We accommodate dietary restrictions and provide snack time in the afternoon. All the cabins are screened with built in bunks and electricity. There is always a Registered Nurse living on site and available 24 hours a day.
