The Nottingham Asphalt Tester (NAT), designed in the 1980’s by our Chairman Keith Cooper whilst working at the University ofNottingham, was the rst of its type. Since then our product range has increased steadily and now includes Gyratory Compactorsand Roller Compactors to prepare and compact specimens in addition to Servo-Hydraulic and Servo-Pneumatic Universal Testers,Triaxial Testers, Fatigue Systems and Wheel Trackers to perform standards.

As a customer focused business, we listen. The Cooper Technology approach is to rst establish customer requirements andthen to oer best advice on the options available in order that customers can make informed decisions. We pride ourselves onworking in partnership with customers rather than just ‘order taking’. Our consultative approach ensures that the applicationis fully understood before an order is accepted, thus ensuring the equipment ordered is t for purpose and will deliver theexpected results and reliably day after day and year after year.

Cooper Technology is much more than a manufacturer: all our machines are fully designed and developed by our dedicatedin-house design team, all our engineers are degree educated in their relevant elds, and every engineering discipline is covered.Mechanical Design via the use of 3D CAD packages we ensure our business is best positioned to utilise the most state-of-the-art geometrical modelling systems available. These systems further permit calculating customer specic solutions within theshortest possible time.

The team works according to the very latest norms in system technology. Our customers expect electronic products that havebetter quality, more exibility and new features at a competitive price. To remain at the forefront of today’s market demands, weequip our design engineers with systems that deliver exibility, high performance and reliability.

Cooper Technology strikes again; after winning the EEF’s FutureManufacturing Business Growth Award 2010, is conferred withInternational Business of the year for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.Cooper was declared regional winner at the Roundhouse in Derby onthe 26th of February 2010.

Organisations, like individuals, depend for their survival, sustenance and growth on the supportand goodwill of the communities of which they are an integral part, and must pay back thisgenerosity in every way they can…We strongly believe that our primary obligation or duty as corporate entity is to our stakeholders– we are just as mindful of the fact that this imperative does not exist in isolation; it is part ofa much larger compact which we have with our entire body of stakeholders- from employees, customers, business partners, eco-system, local communities, and to society at large. For us, being socially responsible is not an occasional act of charity or that one-time tokennancial contribution to the local school, hospital or environmental NGO. It is an ongoing

year-round commitment, which is integrated into the very core of our business objectives andstrategy.Because we believe that there is no contradiction between doing well and doing right. Indeed, doing right is a necessary condition for doing well.

Cooper engages with ‘Colts to Africa’to help underpriviliged children

Although it is very challengin g to manufacture eco-fri endly testing equipment for asphaltic and unbound materials, howeve r ourengineers endeavour to work on more energy ecient designs and manufacture energy ecient testing equipment. As part of our overall commitment to corporate social responsibility, Cooper Technology developed it’s rst eco-friendly testingequipment called Auto Lift Arm ECO Wheel Tracker in 2010. It is small and compact machine for maximum energy eciency.

AUTO LIFT ARM ECO WHEEL TRACKER IS 28% MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT THAN ITS PEER WHEEL TRACKING MACHINES.

We understand the importance of environment. At Cooper Technology we try to minimise waste and take every single and evensimple steps like switching o the lights and equipment when not needed, switching o computer monitors during the night, avoid printing unnecessary emails and recycling paper. We have cut-down hardcopy catalogue printing by 85% and prefer topromote our product digitally.

Cooper Technology provides an easy access, cost eective remote service support program that allows us to x many issues onyour computer, and Cooper testing equipment, from the comfort of your laboratory or business. All you need to do is downloadour custom remote support program and we will do the rest. Once work is completed all traces of the program are removed andwe are unable to access your computer again until you initiate the connection. All connections from our oce to your system areencrypted so you can rest easily knowing that your information is completely safe.

We can x a large range of problems remotely including, but not limited to:

    • Software problems• Installation of programs• Software patches

    • Software upgrades• Maintenance• Program conguration• Tests and PC optimisation

This is just a small list of what can be accomplished remotely and, best of all, you don’t even have to be at the system once yourun the program.

British scientist Lord Kelvin is quoted from his lecture to the Institution of Civil Engineers, 3 May 1883 as saying:

This famous quote emphasises the importance that measurement has in science, industry and commerce.Prior to dispatch, where appropriate, each piece of our test equipment is calibr ated by qualied engineersusing procedures and equipment which is scrutinised annually by the United Kingdom AccreditationService (UKAS). The International Laboratory Cooperation (ILAC) links UKAS with accreditation bodiesworldwide. All equipment needs to be UKAS calibrated and traceable to national standards in orderto satisfy typed testing as described in the EN13108. Although equipment from Cooper Technologynormally continues to perform correctly and produce accurate results for many years, over time andthrough application there could be some component wear and the output from electronic componentsmay drift. A highways material laboratory is not an ideal env ironment for instruments that must, in somecases, measure displacements within accuracies in excess of one millionth of a metre.

To comply with your internal quality assurance policy and to demonstrate a disciplined commitment to sound laboratorymanagement.

    • To have the condence that your test equipment continues to functioncorrectly and to ensure that it maintains the required level ofmeasurement accuracy you would expect.

    • To enhance your customers’ condence in a reliable and accuratetesting service.

    • To gain national and internationa l recognition of your testing and to• help you to access foreign markets where laboratory accreditation is

    compulsory.

The equipment needs checking and calibrating at least annually by oneof our fully trained, UKAS approved engineers from Cooper TechnologyCalibration Division. On completion of the calibration, our engineer willprovide you with an update on the condition of the equipment, togetherwith a traceable calibration certicate.

It is very important for us to know your opinion about our products, processes and services. We value your comments andsuggestions, it helps us to peruse excellence in products, processes and services. If you have any comments or suggestionsplease feel free to write to us: [email protected].

I would like to comment on how impressed we are with th e new Wheel Tracker ECO Small Device sincewe purchased the machine beginning this year. It has been in constant use. The benet that we haveseen in that this version is fully automated from start to nish, compared to the standard 1 arm wheeltracker, which is quite a bit labour intensive where you have to physically place the arm/wheel on thespecimen, wait until test temp is achieved before starting the test, and lifting the wheel o the specimenat the end of the test. Our technicians also nd our software a lot more user friendly.

    DESCRIPTION

    TG-0411 AND TG-0412 SIEVE SHAKERS

TG-0411 and TG-0412  impart a circular motion to the materialbeing sieved so that it makes a slow progression over thesurface of the sieve. They are ideal for on-site and heavyduty applications when heavy or large bulk samples are to beanalysed. The sieve shakers are equipped with a dynamic power sourcewhich ensures the right vibration is imparted to the sieves andsample for fast, accurate and reproducible tests. The verticalmovement is xed to ensure the sample spends maximumtime on the sieve surface. The unique vibratory action alsohelps keep the apertures clear and free from binding. The Sieve Shakers are tted with a very ecient clampingdevice that ensures sieves are held rmly without over-tightening and allows them to be quickly removed andreplaced. The timer can be preset for any duration up to 60minutes. The TG-0412 model has the additional frequencyadjustment facility.

Sieve Capacity: 15 pieces of 200 mm sieves + pan and cover;10 pieces of 300 mm or 315 mm sieves + pan and cover.

    TG-0413 SIEVE SHAKER

The TG-0413 sieve shaker is tted with an ecient clampingdevice that ensures sieves are held rmly without overtightening and allows them to be quickly removed andreplaced.Non corrodible, non metallic springs are tted making theshaker maintenance free. The shaker is tted with a timerwhich can be preset for any duration up to 60 minutes. This unit will accept 200mm to 400mm diameter sieves. Wetsieving kits in the appropriate sizes may be used with thisshaker. The TG-0413 sieve shaker has been specially designed tooperate with heavy samples without loss of performance. Itis equipped with a dynamic power source which ensures theright vibration is imparted to the sieves and sample for fast, accurate and reproducible tests. The vertical movement isxed to ensure the sample spends maximum time seekingapertures rather than being suspended in mid air. The uniquevibratory action also helps keep the apertures clear and freefrom binding. The TG-0413 Sieve Shaker imparts a circular motion to the

material being sieved so that it makes a slow progression overthe surface of the sieve. It is ideal for on site and heavy dutyapplications. When heavy or large bulk samples need to beanalysed it’s important to use a shaker that is built for the job.

Sieve Capacity: 15 pieces of 200 mm sieves + pan and cover;10 pieces of 300 mm or 315 mm sieves + pan and cover;7 pieces of 400 mm sieves + pan and cover.

    TG-0414 ELECTROMAGNETIC DIGITAL SIEVE SHAKER

The TG-0414 Electromagnetic Digital Sieve Shaker performs avertical sieving motion and by removing the upper plate it canalso be used as a vibrating table for one concrete specimen. The vertical sieving motion is provided by a very eectiveelectromagnetic unit which is designed to obtain the bestresults with sand and aggregates. Supplied complete withtimer.

Sieve Capacity: 12 pieces of 200 mm sieves + pan and cover;8 pieces of 300 mm or 315 mm sieves + pan and cover.

jarring and orbital action which provides the most eective

shaking action. Upper and lower cross heads are adjustableto be used for dierent sieve sizes. The shaker includes a 30minute timer and a continuous-stop-timer operation switch.

Sieve Capacity: 10 pieces of 200 or 203 mm sieves, plus panand cover; 8 pieces of 250 mm sieves, plus pan and cover;6 pieces of 300 mm or 315 mm 12“ sieves, plus pan and cover.

    TG-0416 ROTATAP MOTORISED SIEVE SHAKER

TG-0416 Rotatap Motorised Sieve Shaker is designed tobe used for 8” diameter sieves. This shaker provides 278oscillations and 150 taps per minute to produce an eectivesieving action. TG-0416 provides 2 dimensional shakingmotion and can handle up to 6 sieves of full-height 8” and 13sieves of half-height 8”. Bench mounting is not required.

    DESCRIPTION

Aggregate Abrasion Machine determines the AggregateAbrasion Value by testing the measure of the resistance ofaggregate to surface wear by abrasion. Two specimens are pressed against the surface of a steel discrotating in a horizontal plane, with a force of 0.365 Newton’sper sq. centimetre. Sand, fed by hoppers, is used as an

abrasive. After 500 disc revolutions the amount of materialabraded is measured by calculation of the weight loss of theaggregate. The percentage loss in mass of chippings as known as the‘Aggregate Abrasion Value’ (AAV), and ranges from about 1 forhard ints to over 16 for aggregates normally considered toosoft for use in road surfacing.CRT-AAM-AGG should be ordered separately.

    DESCRIPTION

Accelerated Polishing Machine is used to produce polishedstone samples of aggregates used in road surfaces, to simulateactual road conditions.

In 1950 increased trac ow and higher speeds, together withconcerns about road safety led to research into the relationshipbetween road materials and skid-resistance. Research at theUK Transport Road Research Laboratory showed a signicantrelationship between polishing of aggregates used in roadsurfaces and skid resistance. Tests were devised using anAccelerated Polishing Machine and a friction measuring device(known as the Pendulum Skid Tester, also supplied by Cooper,to determine (PSV) Polished Stone Value).

Fourteen specimen aggregate samples are clamped arounda rotating Road Wheel. These samples are subjected to twotimed stages of abrasive polishing under a loaded rubber tyre.First by Corn Emery grit, and secondly by Flour Emery powder.

Accessories/consumables are not included in t he price of themain device and may be purchased separately if required.

    DESCRIPTION

The Cooper-Wessex Pendulum Skid Tester CRT-PENDULUMis high quality skid resistance testing equipment. Originallydesigned in the 1940s in the US, the instrument was furtherdeveloped in the 1960s at the UK Transport ResearchLaboratory for the testing of road surfaces.

The CRT-PENDULUM measures the frictional resistancebetween a rubber slider mounted on the end of a pendulumarm and the test surface. This provides highway engineerswith a routine method of checking the resistance of wet anddry surfaces to slipping and skidding, both in the lab and on

    site.

It is based on the Izod principle: a pendulum rotates about aspindle attached to a vertical pillar. At the end of the tubulararm a head of known mass is tted with a rubber slider. The pendulum is released from a horizontal position so thatit strikes the sample surface with a constant velocity. Thedistance travelled by the head after striking the sample isdetermined by the friction of the sample surface. A reading ofSkid Resistance is obtained.

    DESCRIPTION

The TC-1035 Semi-Automatic Grinding Machine provides fastgrinding of cylinder specimen ends to obtain plane andparallel surfaces according to EN and ASTM standards. The onydierence between automatic machine and semi-automaticmachine is that the cradle of the semi-automatic machine ismoved toward thegrinding wheel bythe user.

All grinding processis automatic exceptthe movement ofthe cradle for semi-automatic machine. The optimum cycleto be applied by theuser is 5-6 cycle/per minute. Threeunits of Ø38 to 100mm or two unitsof Ø150-160 mmconcrete cylindersends can be groundsimultaneously withthe suitable cradleand water restraint

panel. The length ofthe specimen mustbe longer than 70mm.

The Planeness and the perpendicularity of the test cylinderends are in accordance with ASTM and EN standards. ThePlaneness accuracy of grinded surface is 0.05 mm. Thedeviation of O perpendicularity of the side with reference tothe end faces is 5 . The cradle which specimens are xed onhas automatic bidirectional radial displacement ability. Thesafe and ergonomic design prevents the user to exposure towater and dust and provides easy access to the water inletand outlet.

Specimen cradles and water restraint panels can easily beinstalled without the need for any assembly. Mobility of themachine is achieved with the help of the integral wheels, andall components of the system can be safely accessed for easymaintenance.
